The average MMA fighter is paid a lot more than the average Boxer, just for a little perspective there. It's only the superstars in MMA who make less than the superstars in Boxing.

But that's changing. Who will be the next Boxing superstars? The mega-fights? Kids aren't trying to become pro-Boxers anymore. They're learning BJJ and wrestling and watching MMA.

Can't compare the two. Boxing has been around way longer than MMA and was pretty much the only combat sport people came out to see.

I hope MMA reaches the level of boxing's payday but you can't compare the two YET ... Boxing has been around way too long.

He should go join strikeforce, that way he can fight in other tournaments and organisations.. UFC don't allow you to compete overseas or anything once u sign the contract.

He should go join Strikeforce so that he can easily win the belt and then not fight again for 5 years while Strikeforce fans pretend it doesn't matter.

It's not about fighting more to earn more. Once the MMA breaks through the mainstream audience, that's the time money will start flowing big for the fighters just like the NFL, NHL, etc. For now, until all the states legalize MMA, they cannot have that same payday as the other mainstream athletes.

You're right stonedpony, he should stay chained to the ufc, watch Dana give title fights to whomever draws the most circus viewers and then retire to a job at McD. **** rankings, **** fairness, just follow the money? The UFC way.

Do you know how MUCH bigger NFL, NHL, NBA, etc. are than MMA??? How can you even compare MMA with these organizations and complain about fighters' pay. Boxing has been around for a century and only 1% of the boxers get paid millions.

Yeah but MMA includes boxers, NFL stars, Thai Boxers who actually are the most skilled and underpaid and wrestlers who work hard and get paid nothing but a little sponsorship if they get in the olympics...

Also MMA has been around for thousands of years and was an original olympic sport called Pancration. I can understand why you made that comment but you really should do a bit more research and read between the lines a bit more...

Jeff Monson only made 15K when he fought Tim Sylvia for the Title. You would never see that in boxing.

Dabs, you should take your own advice. We're talking about Professional sports here, not Olympics where you don''t get any contract to get paid an income. Are you saying MMA,as a professional sport, has been around longer than professional boxing?

Once MMA breaks through the mainstream audience, then sponsorships will come just like in the NFL, etc.. That's the time money will start coming. Until that time, you cannot compare the salary of the NFL and MMA athletes.

Great guy. Very humble. He knows financially he is very secure. In the future he should analyze MMA events and be a sports broadcaster. Again he is humble and intelligent. He was looking out for the little guys who are trying out MMA. He said he's more or less well off, but the UFC newcomers the pay is not enough. Look at boxing. MMA is quite young so in 10-20 years they will be lots of millionares, but not right now

The MMA fighters work extremely hard to get prepared for a fight, therefore, they should make a little bit more money than they are making now.

Also it can really depend on the reputation of fighters and what they have accomplish...look at when Royce lost and got 400 g's when Matt hughes got 55 g' , even though royce probably demanded alot

UFC is a monopoly. They are the big dogs without major competition. They set the pay standards and others follow. Until a major organization comes along and steals their stars by offering bigger and better contracts than what they earn now will basically be the same. UFC doesn't need to pay them more because no other organization is competing against UFC by offering better pay. UFC can't really be faulted for doing good business. However this basically sucks for the fighters as they totally deserve better pay for all their hard work, dedication and training. On the other hand many of us will never earn the salary of Rich Franklin but we do drive better vehicles than rusted out jeeps!!!!!

A few extra grand for the up and coming fighters will not break the ufc. Franklin is 100% correct. Other sports even have a pension system for retired athletes. Why should good fighters who give so much of themselves, and entertain millions of people year after year, leave the sport with next to nothing. The fight game has always been corrupt in this regard in my personal opinion. The owners always lie about profits, costs, overhead, etc. MMA currently has the brightest future out of any other major sport. All this crap about "waiting until mma breaks into the mainstream" is pure propaganda. Many of you simply believe everything you are told(sort of like a bunch of half retarded republicans).

Well said. Keep in mind people, the average pro fighter is making between 1 and 5K a fight. Even if they could some how manage to fight every month (they can't) and get some sponsors, they can't support themselves without a day job. I know a couple of pro fighters in low level circuits and they have no lives whatsoever. The get up, go to work, hit the gym, shower, go to bed, repeat. If they want to make it big they will have to quit their day jobs, sleep on someone's floor for a couple of years and if they fail they will have wasted time that they could have put into other careers. These guys definitely deserve more money. Ten grand a fight would be fair and doable.
