Rashad Evans to Phil Davis: I know you aren't a fighter
Posted on January 24, 2012, 10:39 PM by Trent ReinsmithWhen it was announced that Michael Bisping would be replacing the injured Mark Munoz in the co-main event for Saturday’s UFC on FOX 2 fight card, many thought that the verbal warfare between those two fights would be the focus in the days leading up to the fight. That has not come to be. Instead, the fighters in the main event, Rashad Evans and Phil Davis have taken center stage with their verbal exchanges.
During last week’s media call, Evans answered a question regarding the fight by saying after he beats Rashad who else would there be for him to fight. That answer didn’t seem to sit too well with Evans, who tore into Davis, saying, "Let's get one thing straight, you ain’t beating me and you know what, it can't get here fast enough. I'm going to smash you, dude. He ain’t ready and he know he ain’t ready. When I look into his eyes, he ain’t ready. You're just a boy. We're going to see what happens when those lights hit you. When you walk out and that crowd is roaring. We're going to see what kind of man you are. We're going to see what kind of fighter you are, because I know you aren't a fighter. When you get hit in the mouth, things change. When you got hit by Li'l Nog you didn't know what to do. When I hit you in the mouth, you're going to feel it."
To this Davis replied, "Oh ok, that's scary, that’s scary."
The stakes will be high for this fight, as a win will most likely put Evans into the cage against UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones, while a Davis victory is likely to have him one fight away from a title shot. One thing is clear, heading into Saturday’s main event there will be little love lost between the two fighters.
