Rashad Evans is still a Greg Jackson fighter
Posted on March 15, 2011, 10:20 AM by Anton GurevichDespite recent rumors, MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reports that the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans never left the Greg Jackson's MMA Academy.
Rumors were sparked by no other than Chael Sonnen, who used his Twitter account to update the Mixed Martial Arts community about the surprising turn of events. Then, Rashad Evans added more oil to the fire, saying the following also through his Twitter: “Trained 4 the first time since the injury.. I felt good! I trained with Yuri Villefort, & JZ Calavante @ Imperial! Good times!”
But today, Helwani spoke to Rashad Evans's manager, Glenn Robinson of Authentic Sports Management, who dispelled the rumors by saying that Rashad Evans hasn't decided yet about what to do with his training.
One of the main reasons behind Evans's possible departure could be the idea of fighting the fellow team member Jon Jones, who will face Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the UFC Light Heavyweight title at UFC 128 this weekend. According to Robinson, the pair will definitely not train together if UFC announce the match-up, while the allied Grudge Training Center is also not an option for Rashad Evans.
"Suga" was forced to pull out of UFC 128 due to a knee injury, with the UFC immediately offering the title shot to Jon Jones following his victory over Ryan Bader at UFC 126. Evans will complete a year out of action on May 29th. In his last fight, Evans defeated the arch nemesis Rampage Jackson at the main event of UFC 114.

i think jones would destroy rashad if im honest, but then again i think hed smash everyone in the division except shogun
Except Shogun? Why? Shogun isn't invincible. Forrest beat him and Mark Coleman gave him a pretty good fight. He's human and he's injury prone. I cant wait for Jones to take this belt and hold onto it for a while.
your talking out your arse mate.....your just bitter cause rashad beat rampage lol
that fight would be extremely close
your always under-estimating rashad
Good point, and yes, Bones is taking Shogun's belt.
forrest was shoguns first fight in a cage, first real fight where he couldnt utilize hes head stomps, soccer kicks and knees to the head of a grounded opponent...all key aspects to shoguns game back then. he was aweful against coleman, he was so unfit it was embarassing to watch. and he knows that. he changed his whole training regime and look what happend....he ko'd liddell (yeah liddell was on a downward spiral then but one punch and he'll still make u hit the canvas)...shogun then forced lyoto machida (a fighter who many mma fans believed would stay undefeated for years) into the most controversial decision in UFC history....then he went and knocked machida ****ing senseless...jones hasnt really been tested against someone with just as unorthadox striking as his own and such an active guard as shoguns...i think this will be so close.
there is a long story in that Griffin fight, and Coleman was like an adaptation and a comeback.... or ur saying that Coleman is, ATM, as good as Machida or better than Rampage??
not sayin he WOULDNT beat shogun, cos hes got an excellent chance of doing it, im just sayin tht shogun has the most chance of beating him, due to his striking ability and aggression, jones could easily beat him doh, like i said i think hed walk through most other guys, like for example if jones fights rashad, im just personally struggling to see what rashad could do to stop him....rashads a great wrestler but then again so are ryan bader and matt hammil, and jones completely nulified thse guys...rashads strriking is good when hes got confidence but, again, i dont see it bothering jones....my first comment wasnt an attack on jones, pretty much the exact opposite, what i meant was (in my opinion) shoguns the only guy who can stop jones at this point
I'm so glad you brought up Machida. Everyone focuses on Shogun's loss to Griffin and his bad performance with Coleman; however, no one ever mentions how he, in a lot of people's opinion, beat Machida in the first fight and knocked him out easily in the second fight. Everyone forgets that at the time Machida was considered indestructible due to his unorthodox style and elusiveness. But no, no one remembers that. All they remember is Griffin and how easily Jones will walk through him.
Yep, exactly! It's funny how people consider those fights againts forrest... and coleman of all people!...when Shogun clearly hadn't adapted to the UFC rules and ring size. The almost claustrophobic Pride ring (in comparison to UFC octagon) and omission of some of his primary winning tools were pivotal factors in losing. If you're used to fighting a certain way for years (skillful brawling), then all of a sudden you are instructed to fight in a different manner...that cannot be easy to adjust, in training being 1 thing, but to actually consciously abstain whilst in live combat must be a huge mental shift...He fought in Pride as if he was in a street fight...now there's a sporty spin on his fight game with the UFC and it's rules. Same thing with Wanderlei he needed to adjust big time. People need to understand that when fighters aren't on their prime game...whether it be adjusting to new platform and rules, or if they have been put off for an extended timeframe for whatever reason (Rampage loss against Forrest, and arguably even Evans as his Machida fight clearly showed a major improvement) that is a legitimate excuse for losing imo.
I remember the machida fight. Shogun isn't the only one to beat him anymore. I never thought he was unbeatable, I think Jones can beat him too. Rampage pulled it off so why couldn't Jones.
Shogun was the perfect fighter to mactch up against Machida, and he also made up the perfect gameplan. but jon jones is way different than machida. Jones is long limbed with some dominating wrestling compared to machida who is primarily a counter striker, thats why shogun was able to beat machida.
Yeah, the only other person to beat him besides Shogun is Rampage via sketchy decision. Whether hes been beat or not, doesn't change the fact that at the time when Shogun faced him he was at the top. Now Jones vs. Machida, thats a whole other can of worms.
This is getting too dramatic. When Bones beats Shogun, then he and Rashad will fight, no big deal. All this dramatic crap about changing camps, not fighting your training partners, or friends (Fitch, you pussy), is a bunch of crap. Get over it already and move on. I thought these fighters were professionals? Start acting like it.
Da Boss is going 2 make them fight each other regardless so stop all the syrupy soap opera shit
IMO it tink bones jones wud murder rashad....the shogun fight is too close plus i dnt mind who wins cuz its gonna b gud
True...I think Jones would come out with his party tricks (ala bonner)against Evans because of his 1 dimensional wrestling gameplan of late, and totally annihilate him using sheer unpredictablility in striking. I don't think he'd dare it with Shogun...a smarter move would be to utilise his wrestling...like he did against Bader...then GNP Shogun, or pull out the decision. Perhaps he preceived Bader's ko power to be a risk, and employ the same strategy against Shogun...Shogun did show some awesome wrestling defence tho when he was able to easily stand up after being taken down by Machida in their last fight... hope he's able to do that against Bones.
I think Jones is starting to get a big head. He's buying in to too much of his own hype and becoming fake. I think he has the potential to be great but he has to settle back into the humility, respectful person he started as. Shogun may just destroy him if he doesn't focus and stop the "I'm a breath of fresh air" and "I'm learning new Katas" crap. Bader gave him too much respect as has everyone since Bonner. He is very unique but when you get caught up in your own hype you usually get brought down to eath by a KO like Rashad. That is probably why he waited for the fight because once he tasted defeat he didn't want to chance it.
Shogun is different. He has been in wars and will come prepared for Jones but not intimidated. Jones can be one of the best ever but he better get back to the basics or he could end up like Tito. He bought all of the hype when he was beating people in a new sport. Now he still thinks he is the best but can't stay healthy, focused and hasn't won in 5 years.
Keep your head Jones and focus so that your head isn't so big it is just too easy for Shogun to hit. Remember, I like Jones too so I'm just saying. Let's hear it from all of the Jones Band-wagoners.
Why is it that people have to talk in such extremes, anything can happen in MMA people should know that by now.
@Bradstreet omg r u seriously comparing machidas wrestling to Jon Jon Jones haha that's some funny shit.. Jones is at a different level of wrestling than n e one in lhw.. he's gonna smash shogun
People stop making excuses to why he lost to Forrest he lost fair n square a fights a fight man.. Forrest aint no joke he took care of shogun nasty style n I bet he'd do it again
*@Bradster* I ment stupid ass phone
