Rashad Evans has more respect for Quinton Jackson than the "sneaky snake" Jon Jones

Top Light Heavyweight contender Rashad Evans, who was in attendance for the UFC Fighter Summit in Las Vegas, discusses the rivalry between himself and his former Jackson's MMA teammate Jon "Bones" Jones, as well as his upcoming match-up with rising prospect Phil Davis.  Evans insists that he's not interested in going back to train at Jackson's, but says working with Grudge in Colorado is possible.

Evans was initially set to challenge Jones for the division title, but found his title hopes dashed once again when a hand injury forced the champ to withdraw from the bout.  Instead, Evans and Davis will square off in the main event of UFC 133, set to take place August 6th from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I wish Rashad would stop running his mouth. More than anyone in UFC he needs to start letting his hands do the talking for him. People aren't happy with him because of the layoff he imposed on himself. He put on a snorefest against Jackson (after albeit a great TUF season), and his obsession with the title cost him fans, respect and credibility. I think he's got a lot of work to do before he's earned the right to start criticising other fighters.

Hes the former LHW champion, he has every right to criticize Jon Jones. But hey, you are the one saying people should earn the right to criticize other people. What gives you the right to criticize Rashad Evans? You have done nothing for MMA

haha I think you've gotta draw the distinction between a fan making a comment on a website and someone making comments on camera for a mass media organisation.

He's also not criticsing Jones' capacity as the champ, it's a personal attack. I like Rashad and I really want him to beat Jones but he needs to get his head down and fight because otherwise he's just going to keep drawing criticism.

I also don't think he should be looking past the Davis fight and I feel like he is. Davis is no mug and has the tools to beat anyone in the division. I just really hope he's not setting himself up for a massive fall.

But since Rashad has talked to Jones and knows him a lot more then any of us do. He should be able to personally attack Jones, especially since he feels jones wronged him. I prefer fighters to be open minded and say what they want to say. (Its one of the reasons why I like Sonnen). I want fighters to be real, and not put up some act for the cameras

well fair enough that's where we differ I guess. I don't mind it when people have their panto slagging matches like Kos on GSP but when it's genuine I think it's unprofessional.

Like I said I just think Rashad should be getting his head down and concentrating on fighting right now because more than ever he needs to have his head in the game.

    I agree with en09si.

Rashad needs to frickin' let it go. He's been acting like a child.

I'm not saying that Jones didn't do anything wrong; saying what goes on in training is a no-no, and I can understand how Evans might be miffed about that. Nevertheless, he needs to stop obsessing over all this and let it go. You don't see Jones coming out with a video every few weeks talking trash about Rashad.

Dana was right, and Rashad took himself out of the equation for so long, in a period when you don't have much time (as a fighter) to begin with.

    I hope Davis trounces him.

yeah i feel the same about him...i'm avid rampage fan his my no1 fighter...its always been a result of a combo of his personlaity and fighting style...i would like him less if he lacked either.

evans fights have been lacklustre of late, but what has kept me interested in hm is is presence i the media...i actually want to hear what he has to say even though sometimes it comes across as complainig and bitching...at least he's sincere. He's an intelligent guy and says it lke it is...this is an emotional sport, tears are shed and there's alot of drama in the background and evans has no problem venting...and thats cool with me. I love rampage but cant deny I appreciate evans presence in this sport too. I do want to see rampage ko him tho :p

People don't seem to get the fact that this is an interview and people are asking him these specific questions because the fans want to know or are curious, so he is answering them. Does he also like to speak his mind? Sure, but that's not such a bad thing.

if Rashad ends up fighting Jones he will loose in a big way. Although I'd like Rashad to win, Jones is on such another level he's going to decapitate him.

Well it's a hard fight to call but I can't see either of them dismantling each other. They know each other's moves and Rashad is a higher level wrestler than Bader and certainly the other guys Jones has faced.

I think Jones looks like he's got the skills advantage but I don't think you can say anything definite because their history makes this fight very tough to call.

John Jones is setting himself up for a big fall?

Agreed - and he's doing a wonderful job of it, too. He's crushing everything and everyone in his path, walked into the Octagon spanked the reigning champ and stole his belt; no problem.

Yes - if you're going to set yourself up for a fall, then JJ is probably doing a better job of it than any other fighter in MMA.

My guess - Jones will continue down his Karmic path of self-destruction, unabated.

Honestly I can't believe people REALLY think Rashad has a chance against Jones. He's just another wrestler/boxer being put in front of Jones and other than the whole former teammates thing he doesn't have offer anything new or better in terms of a challenge. His wrestling creds are actually inferior to Bader's on top of the fact that he's smaller and weaker with a slight speed advantage over him. Against Jones he doesn't have either of those and his striking isn't any where near what Jones has shown and he has a HUGE deficit in reach. Honestly, I just see this being another squash match unless Jones feels pity for Rashad and chooses not to beat him to bad.

Ummm, Jones doesn't have sharp striking and Evans' boxing is actually not that bad. In fact, it's more precise than Jones' looping hooks (which is Jon's favorite technique).

Evans has a pretty decent chance in beating Jones. He's a solid wrestler with good hand speed and technique.

Too much stock is placed on Jones. It doesn't matter if he beat Shogun, the bigger question in this is what are Jon Jones' (with three years of experience in MMA) weaknesses? With Guzmao and O'Brien, and even Bonnar, Jones displayed less than average striking, suspect stamina and the ability to be bullied into a corner.

If Evans has a great strategy with avoiding Jones' wrestling and power shots, then Rashad's chances in landing a knock out punch increase. Jones' reach and size might provide a great disadvantage for Evans but it may also provide a great downfall for Jon if he can't keep Rashad from breaching.

When Jones vs. Rashad was first announced, I said it wasn't going to happen. A month ago, I said...

"For some reason, I don't think this fight is actually going to happen. Not the friend thing, more likely another injury to Rashad or maybe his mom will tell him not to fight Jones, like she did with Anderson Silva. "

Now we know. Jones was the one who got hurt, and now Rashad, after not fighting since forever, is going to lose to Davis.

Maybe they should have staid friends...

I am tired of these personal attacks--but I suppose some fans lap it up.

If Rashad was classy, he would have moved to another training camp--saying he needed a change of scene for his growth as a fighter, and left it at that.

When two fighters train in the same camp, in the same weight division, in the same promotion, they have to consider that they might be fighting each other one day--if they don't think of that, they are not very bright.

Both Jones and Rashad have come out with infantile comments about each other--but I suppose it all feeds the hype machine.

I personally agree with Rashad's view on respect.

"Rampage" has accomplished far more in the sport than "Bones" at this point.

Jon Jones needs to be careful with some of the comments he has made. Because as well as losing Rashads respect... He might also be at risk of losing fans respect.

I dont think evens can beat jones right now..

its a good thing that he got the fight against phil...

even though phil is an amazing wrestler. i do feel evens has got the skills to beat him,

even should beat phil and rampage should beat hamil.

i am not a big fan of evens.. but for some reason want evens to ebat jones. Jones is starting to look too ****y...

i do feel evens has not been performing his best in the last two fights.

he was tagged by both rampage and silva... i feel he was lucky to survive in those fight.. i want evens to let his hands go...

i believe he has lost his confidance aftter the machida fight.

he needs to get his confidance back.. he has the power he has the skill...beat jone's ass via TKO...

    what do u guys think?
