Randy Couture submits James Toney via Arm Triangle in the First Round
Posted on August 28, 2010, 11:06 PM by Anton GurevichUFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture did exactly what was expected from him, by submitting James "Lights Out" Toney via Arm Triangle in the First Round. Couture did a quick job in taking James Toney to the ground with a "sloppy" takedown, immediately improving his position to the full mount. Toney managed to defend Randy Couture's Ground and Pound quite well, but was clueless after The Natural unleashed Arm Triangle attempts. Toney did not tap to the first, but had no choice in Couture's second attempt.
In his post-fight interview, James Toney declared that he wants another shot in Mixed Martial Arts. A pure striking opponent could be a good option for James Toney, unlike the well-rounded Randy Couture. Captain America continues his winning ways, in what was probably the easiest victory in his career.
Finally, Dana White did an example of James Toney, proving that a World Class Boxer has little to do inside the Octagon against a well-rounded Mixed Martial Artist. One thing is for sure, in addition to securing another W, Randy Couture prevented an embarrassment from MMA fans around the World.

obvious outcome. anyone who thought tony had a chance against a born and bread randy is delusional
That guy is my Hero.
i wonder whats next for Randy
I thought it would be a 3rd round verbal submission victory for Toney via crucifix gnp. What the heck!?
James Toney vs Cheick Kongo would be an interesting fight.Boxer vs Kickboxer
Or even Cro Crop. ALthough he's fighting Mir. Still
Kongo has taken people down before. If only Kimbo hadn't been cut or better yet Chuck
Scratch that maybe he was taken down so easily because it was Randy if he had fought Kongo who has sub-par takedowns he might have kept it standing. Has Kongo been KO'd? I know he's been TKO's.
@Ultimate MMA
Agreed or even Kimbo. What the hell was that garbage! Dana fed him to the Lions!
I could not be happier! I love boxing and I loved watching Tony in the ring but I never paid much attention to his attitude or mouth in the past but now I have lost a lot of respect for him as a person. Taking nothing away from his boxing of course but I am glad that he now has the chance to see that he has to do more than hit hard to be a champ in MMA. Kinda unfair that Randy was his first test but I am glad it was so that maybe it will now humble him a bit.
Randy " The captain of America " is the man of the night for a quick submission.imo
Fixed! I'm not a boxing fan and I love MMA, but anyone who knows anything about this sport could tell that takedown was fake!
Yeah right, and Toney trained off his back! I thought it was funny when Joe rogan asked if he was gonna work on his ground game, he actually said his ground game was good! Denial! Hahaha
YES BABY!
Randy's still going back down to 205 he only went up to heavyweight because of James toney I kinda want to see Randy vs J. Jones two cerebral fighters but I think Randy would be too outclassed on the feet and wouldent be able to deal with the length
and that toney dude wanted to fight lesnar??
hell i want to see that one sided beatdown,, lesnar will make his face into a black pancake with his ground and pound
I dont think Toney will get bk in the octagon
You will never see Toney in the UFc again and doubt you will see him hanging around anymore UFc future fights.
Toney talked too much shit about Dana and it was clear by the end that Dana wanted this guy beaten badly so he could get rid of him and not see or hear him within ear shot for a longtime to come.
Toney has no place in MMA. although if that earlier report/rumor was truw about Toney making 3/4 to 1 million for this fight, you will probaly see Toney at strikeforce or in japan for a payday.
he's already said no one wants to fight him in boxing and the guy wants to earn some cash, so do the math.
i agree 100%
Randy vs Franklin or Randy vs the winner of Rampage vs Machida would be cool
Who on this blog would ever post that they didn't see this coming?
A boxer has no chance against a wrestler; any boxer...against, any wrestler; it's not a fight, it's a carnival act.
I truly feel sorry for any knuckle dragging primordial ooze, that put money on James Toney, tonight - LOL! Why? What possessed you?
If the UFC wants to keep Toney around for some laughs - great. However, this guy is done. And if they do keep him around, then let him fight real heavyweights and let the high level kick-boxers have a go at him; MMA is not just ground fighting and submissions, after all - LOL!!
...James Toney...MMA fighter...LOL!!!! ...yeah, and Oswald killed JFK with a magic bullet.
you truly do live in your own little world
wonder if he;s really gonan jump in the oactagon again
If he does anything in mma again it would have to be under Gary Shaw.
Did anyone really expect anything else haha
Apparently yes, look up the list of idiot members that picked Toney over Couture
yeah Jesus you got pro-mma fighters that struggle against wrestlers and then you have a boxer and expect him to win? Sure, if Couture was silly, ****y or insane enough to stand and trade with him. Look what Tim Sylvia did against a pro boxer, it got him KTFO, but Couture is too smart for that. Good for him.
Look up the list of people who picked BJ (240) over Edgar (59).
Picking all the favorites is the Greg Jackson method of picking....play it safe.
I wasn't surprised by what happened to Toney, but he was worth alot more points than Randy if he won. Toney has serious knockout power and anything can happen in a fight.
this is a good win for mma!!! captain america fvck yea
This was an easy pick. It's simple, Randy Couture vs James Toney in an MMA match? Couture wins easily. Couture vs Toney in a boxing match? Toney wins easily.
MMA and Boxing are two different sports with different dynamics. The only similarity is that they are both combat sports. It's like comparing football and basketball.
Couture vs Big Nog 2
Anyone notice, James toney quit twice in the fight. He verbally quit when Randy had the choke against the fence, ref didnt hear(or didnt understand him), then seconds later Randy got the choke again and Toney "as if he was waving goodbye to MMA. yeld "I give, I give!..
