Quinton "Rampage" Jackson asks to be released from the UFC
Posted on March 10, 2012, 08:29 PM by Trent ReinsmithEarlier this week Quinton “Rampage” Jackson took to twitter to vent. The former UFC Light Heavyweight champion said that he would only fight one more fight for the UFC. At the time it seemed as if perhaps it was Jackson taking his loss to Ryan Bader especially hard.
Well, time has not healed the wounds and Jackson again took to twitter to voice his displeasure with the UFC, asking for his outright release from the promotion.
As a speculation, the most "marketable" fight for Quinton Jackson, as a Mixed Martial Artist, outside the UFC could be no other than "The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko. Jackson could go up to a more-comfortable Heavyweight, while such match-up could break every possible attendance / viewership record in Japan.
Stay tuned to LowKick.com for more.

What do you think LowKick'ers, should the UFC release Jackson and if so, where will he go?

You can go after the Shogun fight
be real Rampage hates training back in the day he could just KO and slam guys and in the last 5yrs he hasnt been able to the talent is to good now...
and all wish the pay was better but comparing it to boxing.....??/ is BS
when boxing had great talent the pay went way up and if they keep paying for the talent out there now like they are well thats why its dying now way over paid....... in the next 5 yrs guys will get paid $15-20,000
per fight plus win bonus and sponsor pays and insurance short term disability damn Rampage most dont get close to what u get cause you already have all the insurance and at least $80,000 per fight plus all bonuses and sponsors ($200000 per fight) and thats being way safe
stop whinning
UFC made Rampage a millionair has one of the highest contracts with them, ppv percentage, gave him atleast 2 cars that I know of, put him on TUF twice, and had his back when he bailed ship to do the movie coming off the TUF 10 which was a huge ppv. UFC stood behind when ran from the cops in his monster truck high on "energy drink (ok Rampage sure energy drinks)" Clearly the UFC is out to destroy your character, and use your likeness, character, and marketability, with out compensation
Truth is Rampage was humiliated in the Bader fight...He lost so badly in front of his kids and larger Japanese fan "family." Now he's turning his anger against the UFC...Come on, they don't fight for you...The UFC will move on with or without you...You're not irreplaceable.
It doesn't really matter if you have made millions of the UFC has made a 100 million of your name (I'd suspect they have made more then that of Rampage). And what is this crap of "standing behind", you realize that is ONLY because of how much Rampage is worth to the company. Notice how fighters that aren't worth as much get kicked of the show for much less. It has nothing to do with doing Rampage a favor and everything to do with just how much money he makes them.
If you are being paid well or not is always relative, most people would say that the activision guys that made Cod4 got paid well but the fact is that they deserved about 100 times what they got paid but instead the CEO put that in his own pocket.
After reading David's reply all I got to say is "Hey Rampage, dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.!"
still, it's kinda hard to have pity on millionaires who have one of the most awesome jobs in the world, all he does is moan and show up for a fight and takes home a cool mil, so what if the ufc made more money off him, oh no he'll have to buy a 60 foot boat instead of an 80 foot boat, what a shame
"Pride did the same 2 me!" maybe the problem is you Rampage? The two biggest and best promotions did you dirty. Where do you expect to fight then?
I don't think he wants to fight anymore, acting is what he wants to live off of.
These promoters are doing everyone dirty but like you said yourself where are they suppose to fight? You can't just speak out agaisn't the biggest organization.
The only thing dirty is how much boxers are paid.
Its sad that the UFC fighters always have to feel short changed because of a sport thats killing itself makes it look like that.
Bottom line is, when MMA is as big as the NFL, these guys will make that money and not until then.
So the UFC said he "lost his appeal" so hes going to get paid less?
Or did they say he lost 3 of his last 5 fights?
And then he says it's because of a lack of respect? Right after saying hes not getting the pay he wants? So pay = respect? So they are supposed to keep paying him just as much no matter how he performs? Your in the fight business man, your respect is earned by your performance.
On top of it, why would they give respect to someone who doesnt show respect? Comes in 6 lbs overweight after tweeting he was 6 pounds over weight hours earlier? He was one of the few fighters on the card that Japan knew ahead of time (outside of the Japanese fighters themselves) and the sad part is he was the only man who got boo'ed the entire night! So does that mean hes not going to go back to Japan since they don't respect him either?
He think he was done dirty, wait till he sees what they would do to him in boxing.
Oh, and he accused UFC of taking his love to fight after the Forrest fight?... they can't do that to you, your the only one that can be held responsible for that.
When Mr. T and Rampage are staring at each other from opposite gas stations, he can reflect on where he went wrong.
Thats actually where they found Mr.T before his come back with cell phone commercials.
So he really did need to use 1-800 collect...
Ugh! After reading a brief excerpt from twitter I feel as if thousands of brain cells died on the spot. It wd be gr8 if U cud C ny thot in a tweet.
Rampage is part of the history of MMA, and has been in many memorable fights--but he is a big whiney baby.
Do you hear GSP or Anderson Silva complaining about money?
Rampage has an exaggerated sense of his value to the UFC and MMA. This is a cruel business, and a fighter can be up one day and down the next. A very few fighters can stay at the top long enough to make the big bucks. Rampage has made some very good money in the UFC, but he has not reached the very top tier because he won the championship once and could not hold on to it. He also could never fight his way back to the top--and has no chance now to ever get the belt again. The fans know this.
Lorenzo and Dana will pay for current talent and fan appeal. Rampage headlining a card nowadays is not as big a draw as it once was. It happens to almost every fighter sooner or later.
I think doing the A team puffed up Rampage's ego a little bit. Just because people recognize you and you're famous does not mean they want to fork over 50 bucks for a PPV you headline.
Rampage probably cannot go to boxing because of the strings in UFC contracts. My guess he has been in negotiations with Dana for more money and has hit a brick wall. His threats of retirement probably did not faze Dana a bit--and Rampage is outraged.
The "lack of respect" is him being ignorant about the current situation. That's what happens when you make excuses for everything and blame everyone else.
Eventually he'll have noone else to blame.
And your right about boxing, like I said if he thinks UFC treats him bad, just wait until they get their hands on him as ignorant as he is. That's asking to get screwed over. He got well over a quarter of a million per fight for a number of fights in the UFC, not including sponsorships, and he got special treatment from Dana a number of times. How the hell is that disrespect? UFC made you a millionaire and your still bitching about money?
As you said, "Lorenzo and Dana will pay for current talent and fan appeal. Rampage headlining a card nowadays is not as big a draw as it once was."
That's spot on, and you know what? Rampage hates the thought and won't admit it. Look at what he said in one of his recent tweets about how "u dont matter to me anyhow cause u gonna buy my fights anyway"...
If he really thinks people are going to buy his fights when he performs like crap and talks to his fans like that, hes in for a rude awakening.
Keep blaming UFC, keep blaming the "haters"... and be ignorant about how your turning people who used to be your fans in to haters by treating them like credit cards who are going to pay for you no matter what you do because your so special.
Maybe hes in denial because UFC japan did well... maybe if they put him on a card that isnt so big he'll start realizing what the UFC said is true - he's not as big of a draw anymore, and the numbers are only going to be going down.
People don't realize they have burned all their bridges until they are already gone.
sounds like a cry baby
He is a cry baby. I've been saying it for months now.
Rampage might sound like a crybaby but he isn't wrong, the UFC does pay the fighters chump change we all know that. I mean ffs the heavy weight champion got 100k to fight on the first ever fox card.
True that, because 100K is absurd for 2 minutes of fighting, not including sponsors and bonuses. I'm not a fan of money, but when I see people crying about money when they make a few mil. it's a bit frustrating.
he was under an old contract that was signed when he was fighting kongo.. if he defended his belt a few times and went to renegotiate he'd be seeing some dollar..
It's not his fault the fight didn't last long. He did his job.
Sponsor money shouldn't count when we talking about what the UFC pays a fighter. Doesn't the sponsors also have to pay the UFC so much per year to be able to sponsor a fighter?
I believe his point was more along the lines of the UFC paid him a 100k to headline what was probably one of the biggest fights in history for them and could have paid him a lot more with the expected ratings. They may have. We don't have to know. We just have to pay.
And just to add to a few others... Rampage does have a nice fan base just as Tito did. Losses do not reflect pay if you still have good selling power. I mean look what James Toney got for getting humiliated.
But in the end... I still want to see some old school Pride veterans get in the octagon again.. Rampage vs Shogun, Hendo. Hell I'd even like to see him in there with Forrest again or Thiago Silva! Win or lose, they would be good fights.
Take away all the sponsors and all the bonuses they get. They still made 100K. each. People should be grateful for actually getting paid that kinda of cash to do some they love. Majority of people dislike what they do, for fraction of the purse. Want to make more money, win fights, get fans, and you'll be paid accordingly.
Cut him, he'll draw somewhere else based on his name but he's not longer a top 5 LHW and hasn't been for some time.
The ufc are the ones making real the money and not the fighters, hence why mma fighters are green with envy at the mountains of cash equivalent boxers make at the same level !
Even boxing contenders/prospects can make more than elite mma fighters, before Amir Khan was even a world champion he was getting nearly one million pound per fight .
When UFC hall of famer foght the boxer james tony ,Randy got paid $350.000 and tony one million lol
Tony got 500,000, and the IRS took it all.
Did we all miss Fedor Vs Rampage in Japan? Awesome right?
People will bitch about Rampage for this, but you know what more power to him. People like seeing him fight so they don't care if he fights till he is a shell of what he used to be like Sakuraba. The way I see it is that his heart isn't in it anymore he should stop. He was saying similar stuff years ago after the Forrest fight and after TUF. This stuff keeps coming up and UFC keeps dangling carrots in front of him because they know they can make money off of him. In a sense that does seem like a lack of respect not just letting the guy go when he has expressed a lack of interest because you know you benefit from having him there. The stuff about the pay is probably just a small part of it, and there are probably a lot more issues he has. Lets face it he is a fighter from another time and the fight game has changed. The type of fighters they had in Pride like Rampage and Wandy and Saku are few and far between nowadays. These newer guys are more athletes than fighters.
Plus if you had listened to him before his last fight I think he was a bit upset UFC keeps having him fight wrestlers which usually results in a boring fight. In fact the only one of his last 4 opponents I have heard him speak positively for was Jon Jones, but Jones finishes.
Rampage stopped caring about the sport long time ago,he says it all the time,he just wants to get paid, dolla dolla, holla, holla! =D
Bumpage the sport has past you by
Honestly, he's a decent striker but he hasnt shown anything to say that he's at the caliber of a top kickboxer (or boxer for that matter).
He isnt known for his boxing, although that's been the only thing he's used in the last few years, it hasnt gotten him very far. His swings are all wild.
He forgot what he's known for...
Greedy mothersucker... this guy can't stand losing, so yeah go to boxing, just like Kimbo Slice, since he couldn't fight MMA either. I don't see Wanderlei, Shogun, Dan Henderson, who all fought in Pride complaining about their about their current situation and pay.
might as well add Cro-Cop to that list, who was really thankful for everything the UFC did for him.
He lost 2 Bader b4 even gettin in the ring.Ya gotta love trainin if ya wanna b a cage fighter dude, time 2 move on son.
I think Rampage should go into Real Estate business.
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson asks to be released from the UFC....
Request granted Rampage.....see ya.
Lack of respect? You have to give respect to get respect, Rampage.
Rampage makes Nick Diaz look like the most mature dude on the planet.
