Quick Quote: Vitor Belfort warns Anderson Silva
Posted on January 17, 2011, 03:56 AM by Anton Gurevich“Fighting for the belt makes no difference. You’re seeking the upper echelon of the sport. What’s important is to stay focused on training and on what you need to fulfill, your objective. Training is the hardest part of a competition. For as long as I’ve been away injured, I believe my training will overcome the down time. I imagine that to be the source of athletes’ riches.I’m going to give it my best, regardless of Anderson’s expectations. I’m going to give it 100%, so he’d better be ready.” - Graciemag.com
UFC Middleweight Title fight against Anderson Silva will mark Vitor Belfort's Middleweight debut, and will be his first bout since UFC 103 victory over Rich Franklin, back in September 2009. In his last Middleweight bout, Vitor Belfort defeated Matt Lindland (Affliction: Day of Reckoning) via TKO early in the first round. Belfort is currently 19-8 in his Mixed Martial Arts career, enjoying a five-fight winning streak.

always been a big Vitor fan, finally Silva meets a dangerous striker. War Vitor.
I am sure Silva will be more comfortable fighting Vitor than Sonnen. Wrestler at that caliber gave him trouble. If Vitor touches Silva in the nugget, goodnight.
I like both the fighters alot....don't really care who wins as long as its a good fight but I see Silva taking this one
Vitors only chance is really to somehow catch silva in random flash KO, that's vitors best chance against many many fighters actually. and against other competent strikers, vitor historically wants to grapple and go to the ground for some defensive BJJ. He hit overeem solid and it didn't really phase overeem, and overeem was much easier to hurt with strikes than silva who has purposely eaten them in fights. Vitor tires quickly while silva doesn't really seems to get tired. AS stumbled henderson and sent him to the ground before the submission, belfort didn't worry him at all. God is really the only thing that can give vitor the fight, and the more i watch his fights the more i'm convinced this is true.
I can't see this one going the distance at all.
Random flash K.O.? Apparently you haven't seen many of Vitor's fights. Vitor tires quickly? Who are you, his trainer? Stop pretending you know what you are talking about.
Yea i saw pretty much any of vitors fights that are worth watching really. Everytime he fights someone it's always "oh he has really good boxing and really fast hands, he can win if he lets loose right away" and if he doesn't he loses. Yea i'm pretty sure vitor has never even been to the 4th round..ignorance won't scoree you any points in a direct argument with me.
Silva first round stoppage. Sadly Belfort won't get close to touching his "nugget".
I can't believe scientists are trying to revive mammoths. Mammoths are really cool so I guess I can.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is gonna be fcking epic.
True that... I say Anderson keeps the belt though... !! Vitor is tough but I don't see him winning.. he got HEAVY hands... but those hands need to hit the target. I think Anderson got a speed advantage and better all round stand up. Vitor will probably eat a vicious knee or he'll get submitted...
You know, I don't think Anderson has a significant speed advantage but I don't think Vitor is as fast as he is made out to be either. He is clearly faster than most but I have watched him closely and he does not have the super human speed he is hyped up to have. He could get a KO but I am picking Anderson as well.
i totally agree with this. as joe rogan would phrase it (while throwing air punches) "silva has PIN POINT precision and LASER BEAM accuracy"
Hes going to have to corner Anderson and let his hands fly accuratedly the same way Machida went down. I think Vitor can win if he over powers Anderson and doesnt give him any range.
lol! thats not true! vitor has the fastest hands in the sport! he is one of the best boxers in the sport! also has a black belt in bjj!
Like you said yourself "Fastest hands"... this is not a boxing match though, this is MMA. Those fast hands ain't worth shit with a foot in your mouth of a knee in your face and that's exactly where Anderson will plant them....
lol....! do you think that it will go too the ground? they will start the fight standing like every other fight in mma. and it will finish standing! some 1 is going too get tko or ko.
Bro, you predicted the outcome of the fight! "a foot in your mouth"! good job! :)
I agree that Vitor would need to do that.
That is possible. I wouldn't put money on this because I think either one of these guys could win but I would consider it a slight upset if Vitor won. He is good but Anderson is just too good of a striker and if you want to talk power man, Anderson knocked a guy out with a jab while moving backwards. Then again if it goes to the ground Vitor might do a little better. Everyone talks about KOs with this fight but Vitor might be the better guy on the ground.
A. Silva has that freaky Bruce Lee strength in his slim frame. I dont see him getting over powered by any one at MW especially since he got through Hendo, who is probably the strongest MW.
I agree with that too.
I do think Vitor has as good a chance as any. But to me it will have to be early either by sub or KO in R1 or 2 for a win other wise I see AS winning. Vitor is cool and would make a great champ but probably not as great as AS in terms of defences and wins.
belfort will be a tough opponent. i'm still picking silva to win though. i reckon he'll be back at 100% for this fight. don't think there'll be any finishing though. they both have chins of steel and as good as their striking is, i don't believe it will be enough for a ko or tko.
i see this one being a very technical striking showcase, but silva will evade much of belfort's strikes and win a decision.
i would like anderson to do the MJ dance, so vitor can KTFO him more easily,ROFL
Yeah Belfort has power, but on the other hand Silva is one of the smartest fighters that I have ever seen. Think Silva will make the proper adjustments to counter the power and retain the title.
no doubt vitor has best boxing in mma and he is ultra dangerouse!!
(watch his pro boxing match.. to fun to watch...) :-D
but he never fought at 185, he hasnt fought for more than 1 year..
and dont forget he fights one or the best fighter in the world..
so its no easy fight for him.. even that he has the skills to win the belt!!!
personaly i hope he gives silva an asswhoppin and we see a grat fight!!!!! WAR VITOR!!!!
yeah cage rust could be a big factor. also he hasn't fought anyone at MW since Lindland. i still think he'll show up well prepared but he'd need an amazing gameplan (the likes of which would make greg jackson jealous) to come away with a win here imo.
If Anderson wins - great. If Vitor wins - great. It really doesn't matter - IMO. This fight has been a long time in the making and coming. Both these guys are great. I don't think anyone would deny that. Both can KO opponents and sub opponents. Both are smart and gamers. No matter what happens in this fight it's going to be great and no matter who wins, The UFC is going to have a great 185 pound Champ.
As I like and respect both fighters, I'm simply going to enjoy the match and pull for both (if that's possible). With that said though, my gut is telling me that Vitor is going to win.
This fight will not going the distance and it won't happen on the ground. One of these two men is going to get KO'd or TKO'd. This will be an epic fight.
Anyone actually watch vitors fights? I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to the ground since that's where vitor has historically taken any good striker he faced. Infact, looking at the second overeem fight was reminiscent of leites vs silva.
" With that said though, my gut is telling me that Vitor is going to win. "
We've been on the same page lately when it comes to Chael Sonnen, but this time I am going to Respectfully disagree with you.
Yes sir, my gut is telling me that your gut is lying to you.
@ Underdog
...disagree, away. I would want you to do know less if you felt so inclined.
However for the record, my gut is 2 - 0 in terms of predictions. It told me GSP would lose to Matt Sierra and it told me Frankie Edgar would beat BJ Penn; twice.
Either way, I'm looking forward to the fight, as I'm sure you are and all that I'm hoping for, as much as anything, is a great fight, which I'm sure it will be and that both fighters exit the ring without serious injury.
Cheers and enjoy the bout,
Wing Chun
No - no "know" - lol
Thanks to Anderson Silva....My gut is 12 - 0 so far.
who knows, maybe vitor can win if he kinda just quickly attacks from the bell like chael did. vitors got fast enough hands that it could be tough to counter, unlike leben who tried to knock him out but has really slow strikes and left him open for counter. but if the fight turns into a technical striking match, then vitor maybe looking at some trouble.
if you havent noticed by now, anderson only does good and gets flashy when he sees that his opponent fears and respects him too much. chael sonnen came in with the "im about to **** you up" attitude and anderson had no idea what to do. he got manhandled for 4.5 rounds and then pullled off a sub with less than 2 minutes of the fight remaining. if you've ever seen a vitor belfort fight then you know thats exactly what vitors going to do. rush him and take the belt from him from the second the first bell rings
He takes these comments from Vitor as sign of " being disrespectful" and plays his games all over again.
true he was unprepared for the aggression that sonnen took into the fight. but even then he hardly seemed fazed by the fact that he was repeatedly being taken down and sure enough, his "happy meal" blackbelt prevailed.
that said, i can't see him not taking this fight seriously. if he loses it'd be great for the division.
and people keep comparing the skillsets of belfort and silva. the thing is, i believe that while they are similar somewhat in fighting styles, but silva is just that much better than belfort in every department. silva by decision.
Agree.....Vitor will humiliate and destroy Silva in this one......sorry to disappoint all you front runners.
Silva hasn't historically shown his ACTUAL weakness against really good competition, vitor always has. People just love to give chael credit he doesn't deserve then they turn around and bash barnett...wtf.
mad - he has trouble with southpaws. and his WEAKNESS is wrestling. also have you ever watched all these fights you talk about or do ya just go off what wikipedia says?
You trolling because alot of your responses are pretty much the opposite of what actually happens. I mean i've seen you say that vitor has one punch KO power but he uses flurries to finish fights. His weakness is his own ego, and you look at ACTUAL losses to determine that as well as alot of his wins when he doesn't feel challenged. have you ever been to wikipedia? Pretty sure it doesn't go into huge detail about every fight a fighter has.
what are you even talkin about?? go watch Belforts fights in affliction. the ones that spring to mind are against lindland, and terry. he KO's both of them with one punch. but i see your pinickity so its actually 2 punches; one for a set up and one to finish the job... go WATCH then come back to me. then you might not have to use your ''wiki facts'' for your lame arguments.
Thanks
Jamie :)
Whats the point of watching that fight really. Not really sure when the last time matt lindland was good was, but it wasn't in that fight so there's nothing to study, it's like me saying "Go watch silva and otsuka". Now, watch his fights that actually MATTER, and he uses a flurry of quick punches to set up the KO.
Now, maybe you should actually go to wikipedia to check out how it works. Like i said, the entirity of every detail that happens in a fight isn't listed there, so crying about that makes little sense. wiki facts are still FACTS, which are a world better than the troll style ignorance that's based on nothing but emotion.
my post was not intended to state whether lindland was good or not. but the real FACT of vitor having one punch KO power, which you have stated on may occasions he hasnt. I am fully aware of what wikipedia entails. My point was you seem like the sort of person who just looks at a fighters record, then judging them instead of actually WATCHING. does this clarify what I meant? I really cant simplify it any further. I hope you get it.
you are the only one on this thread showing ignorance with intent. and I cant say I appreciate it that much.
also it nice to see you've moved on from your little phase of accusing people of having fake accounts. thats always good to see.
Thanks
Jamie
Uhh if i didn't actually watch the fights, how could i recall vitors history against overeem or liddell|? Is that listed on wikipedia or is that just you grasping at straws and having no idea what they are talking about..again?
Yea he can KO guys who have no business fighting him in one shot, how is that relevant? If bisping KO's some guy he has no business fighting i bet noone is going to hype him up, what sense does it make to say AS will go down from one shot anyways? Doesn't take a genius to see he has no history of a weak chin, especially from someone who claims to watch fights.
Where's the ignorance with intent? I backed up everything i said, you don't even know how wikipedia works but you claim that's all i use because i know more than you.
Yea like i kept saying, you make alot of troll posts so it's REALLY hard to believe you were a real person. It's not that nobody has a fake account, since some people clearly do better voting than they do actually backing up their beliefs.
It's been said before, Anderson Silva's weakness has been found... Thanks to Chael Sonnen. So, IMO as long as Vitor goes straight in there with constant pressure (without gassing out) he will finish him. He just needs to have a strong mental game and not over think things
Problem for whoever faces Silva is: Anderson is now "aware" of that weakness... and no doubt he has challenged himself "more" than before in training camp to learn how to deal with that pressure and turn it into his advantage. Fighters evolve.... Anderson has been GREAT, but its those challenges like the "Sonnen" fight that will make him an even better fighter. Do you actually think Sonnen could repeat whatever he did in their first fight?........... I seriously doubt that! Also a little fact to keep in mind.. Anderson never got KO'd or TKO'd, not even close.
He did in Pride
No he didnt.... He's had 2 submission losses. A DQ for illegal upkick and he lost his first MMA fight by Decision.
Only TKO on Anderson's record is before his MMA career, in a boxing match 13 years ago.
nuff said !!!
In your dreams.
DUDE DUDE DUDE you're waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off............... Belfort FIRST rd. KO
God I hope to see Silva flat on his back, eyes rolled up... Ever since the Maia fight I've wanted to see him beaten. WEAK WEAK WEAK I don't care
NEW CHAMPION.....
Is Vitor even going to make weight?
I sure hope so. I've been nervous about this
I have been waiting for this fight for years. EPIC. Respect to both fighters, but before Anderson there was Vitor. He is past his problems now and is ready for the challenge. He is a different fighter then many of you remember him.Anderson is doing great in the UFC but had trouble with competition in Pride. I think Vitor is taking this one.
Whatever the fight is gonna be like, just don't let Dan Miragliotta be the referee! Early in the fight he'll be like accidentally poking Vitor's in the eye. And when Bruce Buffer anounce the winner, "...and still the middleweight champion of the wooorldddd~" Dan Miragliotta was like, "Aaahh, just raise whichever hand I like..." he ended up raising Viltor's. And Vitor's was like "..UuHhhh...Did I just won???" (while scratching his forehead)
wtf?
was that a different language?
Did I just bother you?! If yes, than I'll be laughing right now. Leave a comment bro, not just typing three letters with a question mark at the end. Just go away, eat an ice cream or watch TV.
Oh if you don't know what I'm talking about just watch videos from youtube. You'll see how bad Dan Miragliotta is as a referee! Other than that, just stay out of my face forever. Ok?
