Phil Davis says the fight with Rashad Evans still "makes sense"

"That may be a fight that makes sense. He’s still a top five guy, definitely one of the best guys in the world, we’ll see what happens. If that fight gets made, that’s still pretty cool. I’d like that. I personally don’t know or care, cause the great thing about me is you can give me somebody in the top five, or the top ten, or you can give me somebody not in the top ten, and I’m still confident that I’m going to win regardless. If you want to pay me not to fight someone not in the top ten, cool. Let me know what’s next. I don’t make the decisions and I don’t pretend that I do." MMAWeekly.com (via MMAMania.com)
Fresh off the victory over Rogerio Nogueira, 9-0 Phil Davis was originally scheduled to face Rashad Evans back at UFC 133, but was to pull out of the high profile bout due to a knee injury. Davis is widely considered as one of the best Light Heavyweights currently competing in MMA, looking to solidify his place in the stacked ranks of the UFC 205 division. "Mr. Wonderful" has more than a few opponents to chose from, with fighters such as Rich Franklin, Matyushenko/Gustafsson winner (UFC 141), Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans all on the collision course with the Alliance MMA product.

Phil Davis is a very talented light heavyweight but he's not on Rashad's level. Next Rashad fight should be for the LHW title or against Hendo.
Phil isnt ready for rashad, the new rashad especially. With his rediculously improved striking and his new training regime he looked like a beast against tito.. Davis's striking needs to be improved ALOT... hed get stomped by evans. He's not ready for a jump like, a fight against badr coming off a win or like forrest would make more sense
I think you're overstating Rashad's win too much. Yeah he looked impressive, but it was against Tito Ortiz whom at this point of their respective careers that outcome was to be expected.
I bet this fight makes sense to Phil. He comes out ahead not matter what.
If he loses, he still will have got exposure at the highest level and experience against the perennial #1 contender at 205.
And if he wins, he's probably no more than one more victory away from a title shot.
I don't think Davis can get past Evans improved game.
I just hope Rashad can stay healthy. That's a lot of talent that has been sidelined twice now.
