After weeks of confusion, Ultiimate Fighting Championship held an official press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to announce that the long-anticipated bout between Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva has been moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight will now headline UFC 148, which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on July 7th.

As for UFC 147, the card will no longer take place in a soccer stadium. The event wil be headlined by Vitor Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva bout, also featuring the Heavyweight encounter between Mike Russow and Fabricio Werdum, as well as TUF: Brazil finals. As for now, the UFC have no venue for UFC 147.

UFC President Dana White has also mentioned that Jose Aldo could fight on the card, in what would be the third defense of his UFC Featherweight title.

UFC 148 is now easily one of the best cards in UFC history, with Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin, Cung Le vs. Rich Franklin, Michael Bisping vs. Tim Boetsch, Demian Maia vs. Dong Hyun Kim, and of course Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva all fighting at the same venue.

Notwithstanding my errant click that unnecessarily elevated your "weak" count, I agree. It's either a Sonnen decision, or a Spider spectacular finish. I think there's a better chance of the former.

Call me crazy but for some reason I never tought this fight would take place in Brasil...the weird thing is that this is the only fight that was removed from the card and taken to Vegas. Why? Why? This sucks balls.

Because they were worried about a potential incident that would be bad for Chael and the UFC.

like YourMom below has said its not worth a serious incident. i remember watching the last event in Rio and i never liked the fans reactions to the non brazilian fighters the one fight that was won by a non brazillian was booed constantly after the win and with what Sonnen has said about Silva and Brazil in general and with it being one of the biggest rematches in UFC history it makes perfect sense to have it in Vagas!

i got tons o friends in brasil i met while they were on college vacation here, and they even say its a bad ****in idea. i used to party with them and leave my big ass telescope out in the apartments over night when we pass out. they say in their town it would be stolen, and ya....chael talking that much smack about a country , not just individual opponent, is bound to get rushed and ****ed up. cant say he dont deserve a beating. not death. yes, he does a hella job hyping a fight, but racial shit and america is #1 , brasil is ghetto tribal kinda smack talk is un called for. does make you wonder, is he really that ignorant / racist...???obviously he is a smart man that makes dumb choices, but any smart man should know to leave that talk outta the hype, especially if there is a chance you gotta be surrounded by 80k people that are pissed and know to riot over sports. hell, soccer teams dont talk shit, and other countries still get crazy emotions and fight over it, like 13 yr old bitches at a justin bieber show, or 50 yr old bitches at a bret michaels show. something i will never understand , but recognize, and even if i was racist, would not be stupid enough to put myself in that situation. i dont think americas army is gonna come rescue him if he did get kidnapped and / or beaten down in south america. chalk it up as another bad politician that got whats coming to him.

I know it's still a ways out from the fight still, but Chael seems a little more out of shape than normal, but maybe he is working on bulking up a bit, or maybe I really am just imagining it.

I've been a big Sonnen fan and loved the whole show but it is hard to believe that Silva / Sonnen could go 10 full rounds without Anderson landing one good punch on Chaels jaw.

if this is supposed to be one of the biggests sport events of the year then why dont you get a Stadium in the US???? what, there are no soccer, or football stadiums? Im sure you can do it at the Dallas Cowboys or any other humongous stadium but no, once again Vegas and less than 20k people... BOOOOORING !

Honestly an 80,000 seat soccer stadium is a waste of at least 60,000 people's money.

But I'm sure the less than 20k people at the event will be totally bored by the lack of other fans there, and I'm sure the millions watching on TV will feel the same way.

I dont get it, the event is still being held in brazil, just at another venue, so why remove that fight? All of a sudden it goes from the champions backyard to the challengers.

People in Brazil may be pissed off at Chael Sonnen for his comments but at the end of the day he is simply promoting a pay per view.,

Before Anderson Silva takes the high road, lets not forget the disrespect Anderson showed to Damien Mia when they fought. Anderson has no right to comment about Chael being disrespectful.

The reality is, Anderson has been a ****y champion, and this is why Chael has targeted him from the onset, plus his refusal to accept the first fight for so long.

    I hope Chael wins....!

    I agree with you,

Chael has definetly overstepped the mark on occasions, but some of the shit he says is funny as hell and is clearly a joke , Anderson however must not cry victim when he walked out with a face mask in front of Vitor Belfort at the weighs in and then tried to make a fool of damien mia. Andersons sitting back as a multimillionaire, living the good life in Brazil. And i agree with you that his performance against Bisping wasn't decisive.
