Nick Diaz wants GSP fight, apologizes for not making it to the "Beauty Pageant"

Former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz, who was removed from his UFC 137 title fight against Georges St. Pierre, discusses the promotion's decision to replace him with Carlos Condit, as well as his missed opportunity to compete in professional boxing. Diaz calls his forced withdraw from the bout "ridiculous" and says that, while he's sorry he missed the "beauty pageant," he's never failed to show up for a fight before.

Nick Diaz

"I'm trying to get back to Stockton here, I was out in San Francisco trying to get on an airplane this morning to go to a Press Conference for the UFC. They wanted me to fight for the title against Georges St. Pierre, but now they're telling me that they're going to give the fight to Carlos Condit. Which, I think is ridiculous and Georges thinks its a great idea because 'Carlos Condit poses an even great threat.' So, I guess that just leaves me out... All I know is I'm ready to fight. I'm sorry I didn't make it to the beauty pageant, but I've never not showed up to a fight. I've never backed out of a fight in my life, that's not what I do. So, I just wanted to throw all of that out there."

I think Dana's talking to Dan Hardy, just have a feeling they know that will be a crazy fight. I know BJ could kill hardy with BJJ, but Hardy would have the size and reach advantage and they know it will be fireworks as BJ would never back down from a fist fight. Don't think Dana will give Diaz BJ, he's going to leave him in limbo for a while.

Just guesses but that's my thoughts.

saying he knew he would be cut but did know they would be pissed and might be cut.... come on he is a vet in the sport but now can say what ever makes him a bad as in his mind on how they are against him and know some how how would of won tired of the same old shit with him is old some time will have to be a man and say to himself

would I want my son to be like this and how would I want him to be

not the get high im from Stockton so im a gangster shit... look i grew up poor very bad part of town and after a short stay in a state hotel

it didnt help me but my lil girl came and I had bad habits to break

and attitude to change but as i grew up still have an relapse of attitude

here and there but come on IM a man now grow up doing this long enough know what u have to do for your work phuck off and do it

"I'm ready to fight"? If he was ready to fight he would have been at the press conference. We still don't even know why he wasn't there. Keep bitching and moaning, Diaz, for the moment it's all you've got left.

Nick diaz comes to fight if dana thought he actually wouldnt show to face GSP then hes an idiot. I guess dana has enough $$ now that hes willing to sacrifice ppv buys cuz noway GSP vs Condit would outsell GSP vs Diaz. Whatever lets make Penn vs Diaz happen

Yeah, I agree. Nick's job is not just to fight but also to promote the fight. He puts no effort into that aspect of his job. Nick knows from previous experience that Dana is a hard ass and wont put up with Nick BS. Does he really to be let go again before he figures that out?

Nick Diaz is scared of GSP. he gets dominated in practice by Shields and sees how easily Shields TD were stuffed by GSP and knows hes in for a rude awakening.

So he finds a way to back out of the fight in a way that would not expose him for being afraid.

He is way too accepting in this video for it to be otherwise. If hes not cut, Dana should put him with BJ Penn then.

    @Spyridon

He tried maybe one, and probably was gearing up for a second but thats how GSP broke him. Remember after the first round Shields asked his corner "What do I do?"

Obviously his first game plan was to take GSP down and try to submit him, and when that didnt work he had no choice but to stand.

Or do you think Shields' game plan was to stand with GSP the entire time....

if you want to get paid then you fulfill your contractual obligations to the UFC in full which includes media appearances and promotion for the fight, you cant just say "Im ready to fight, Ill fight anyone" and think that makes other aspects of your contract null and void. That said, I really have to state the palpably obvious:: Diaz is not right in the head. This video proves that he really doesn't get it.

It is my guess that Nick passed up a total of 1 million dollars in total payout for this fight--and for what?

Nick, people don't take you seriously and that is why you don't get paid. I have always been a fan of Nick, but these recent actions, and getting pulled for a CHAMPIONSHIP fight as a result is a joke. Then, instead of getting on a video and saying, "I'm sorry, I have been going through some hard times...I apologize to my fans...I'll work hard to get another shot..." he talks about getting paid?! WTF!? I don't think Nick should go to a press conference in the first place b/c what's he gonna do walk up and give GSP the finger? I'd rather have a champ w/ some class and is willing to put the sport ahead of themselves like GSP. I'm not a huge GSP fan, but he works to achieve and is willing to put in the effort and not disrespect the sport, his team/coaches and the UFC for personal gain. After all this is "MMA" mixed MARTIAL ARTS. Where you show respect, discipline, and honor. Nick has shown zero of the above in regards to principals of martial art. Sad for the talent he has...sad.

Nick Diaz needs to fulfill his media responsibility he has been in MMA long enough to know that it's more than fighting it's also the promotion of the fight. The excuse of not wanting to turn up to the "Beauty Pageant" is weak and shows a lack of respect to everyone not just to the UFC. Nick wants to get a big pay day which he is entitled too BUT you have to follow the commitment that comes with the BIG pay day.

I stopped the video halfway. Don't get me wrong, I like Diaz and I absolutely love watching him fight. It's just getting tiresome listening to his same old crap. "I'm ready to fight, whatever, whomever, wherever etc"

Look, he knew this was probably going to happen, so why did he do it? The stress was coming to him, he should STFU about anything else and just F'in apologize like a man, something like this "Look Dana, I'm very sorry I missed the PC's I don't know what to say, I deserve to be removed from the GSP fight but I really want to make it up to you, UFC and the fans. Cause you know what, the fans more than anything want to see this fight, were hyped about this fight and he not only let Zuffa down, he let all of his fans down. Show some respect to your fans Nick, show that you do care. And stop whining like a little bitch when things like this happens.

Dude, you are not Brock Lesnar, Dana is not gonna stand for your BS. You are well known among MMA fans but far from being a super star/ household name that can punch his ticket. Your are a pro athlete, so f@cking act like one. No one says you have to love the press or be a golden boy like GSP, but you need to show up. Last minute texts saying you cant show is unprofessional in any field.

I like Diaz, enjoy watching him fight, but he needs to grow up. The pro-fight industry does not simply exist so Nick Diaz can "get paid". I wish his camp mates would talk some sense into him.

Dana White is a business man. If he bent to the whims and eccentricities of every fighter who gave him trouble, he wouldn't be a very successful business man. They call it the fight GAME for a reason. Diaz would be wise to start playing that game.

For so long he's complained about being underpaid. He gets the chance to make a huge pay check, bigger than he's ever gotten & the goes MIA? What an idiot. And the so called "beauty pageants" are part of MMA. They help sell the fight which in turn pays the fighters. I hope this is a wake up call for the guy.

Nick vs GSP was a fight I was hoping to see. Now, because of Dana being the control freak that he is this is off. Of course, not showing for a press conference is bad business, but to cancel a fight because of that is unheard of. With the Fox deal the UFC is becoming mainstream and Dana needs to act mainstream or take his self-indulgent antiques elsewhere.

I don't think Dana's being a control freak here. He gave Nick three chances to get on a flight and get to the press conference. Nick said he'd do it, and he didn't, and that makes him a liar. Not to mention he never told Dana he wouldn't make it, which makes him very dishonest.

He's always been unprofessional. As much as I disagree with Dana's business sense, I agree with him. Nick's acting like a spoiled child. It's not even that hard. He had two jobs here, promote the main event, and fight. He's proven he can't even handle the most remedial of responsibilities, so what business does he have carrying a main event like this? Plain and simple.

You guys are crazy if you are suggesting ufc should put diaz against penn.

If I were dana i would cut diaz immediately. No UFC, no STRIKEFORCE. Bellator here comes Nick Diaz.......

What kills me is that this chick sneaks out of Caesar Gracie's back dopr to his house ans is gone. Lastly, listen to Nick on this video, he makes it sound that he is on his way back from missing his flight in the morning. Wrong Nick, you had another flight at 4pm and then later that same night 9-10. 3strikes your out to Bellator....
