Nelson Gets the short straw to fight Dos Santos
Posted on July 16, 2010, 02:10 AM by David SaucierIt appears the (15-4) Roy “Big Country” Nelson got the short end of the straw for who was going to take on (11-1) Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos
Roy Nelson The winner of The Ultimate Fighter season 10, was by far the most experienced then his fellow house mates, and made short work of his competition defeating Kimbo Slice, on the show, and defeated Brandon “The Hybrid Schaub” at the season finale. Nelson went on to KO Stefan Struve at UFC UFN Florian vs. Gomi in just 39 seconds. Roy had this to say
"Anybody that actually follows the sport who actually knows my style and knows what I can do doesn’t underestimate me. I may not be a Greek god, or what people think a fighter looks like, but I’m definitely a fighter. Dos Santos is the pinnacle of guys in the UFC. He’s the number one contender for sure in the heavyweight division. Nobody wants to fight him in the UFC, hence why I’m here fighting him. I pretty much got an email from Joe Silva asking if I wanted to…actually, not even asking me if I wanted to, but telling me that I was fighting Dos Santos next, and here I am."
Dos Santos has gone 5-0 since his UFC debut with TKO/KO over Gabriel Gonzaga, Gilbert Yvel, Stefan Struve, Fabrico Werdum, and a verbal submission from Mirko Filipovic Crocrop.
Nelson and Dos Santos will meet at UFC 117 Silva vs. Sonnen at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California In a heavy weight bout likely to determine the next heavyweight contender after Cain Velasquez get his shot at Brock Lesnar.

As with most other situations like this, I see these as a huge opportunity. He does not have much to lose, but a huge amount to gain with an "upset".
If he started a diet, he would have a LOT to lose.
But if he loses that much, he'll have just as much to gain =)
dos santos by slaughter
Its really a toss up to me. The winner will really seperate themself from the pack. Its a shame they even have to fight. I want both of them to get a shot at the champ. I think Dana will crap his pants though if Roy gets his hands on the belt.
Roy's hands are pretty serious he didn't only knock out Schaub he caught Struve to and QUICK... he's got some power he just gets to put his weight behind it lol... But aside from that Dos Santos trains with a great team and his takedown defense is nutin 2 laugh at... this kid is well rounded, I don't see him getting submitted. I see Dos Santos taking this fight, it'll be a dogfight because I don't see Roy dropping fast, but I really see Dos Santos as the superior fighter
I see this ending like Nelson vs Arlovski.
