Nate Marquardt says he's ready to deal with Rousimar Palhares "all for victory" approach

"I've heard that, that he holds on to stuff too long, but I don't really care about that. When I go to fight, I fully expect guys to do whatever they can to win, and if that means them trying to cheat or whatever, you have to be ready for that. You have to protect yourself at all times and that means even from things that are illegal. I'm going to come prepared and I'm going to do my best to stay out of any kind of submission hold so that issue won't even come up." -MMAFighting.com

UFC Middleweight veteran Nate "The Great" Marquardt referred to Rousimar Palhares' controversial reputation of not releasing submission holds for too long. Marquardt will face Palhares in the main event of UFC Fight Night 22 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas on September 15th. Palhares (11-2 in MMA), who lost only to Dan Henderson via Decision in his UFC campaign, was suspended for 90 days after not releasing a heel hook against Tomasz Drwal at UFC 111.

i Hope Nate make a statement and Knock out this guy to get back to the title fight!

as much as i love watching Sonnen beating Silva!

i want to see Nate stand with Anderson! he and Belfort are the only ones on the middleweight division who have a chance to beat him standing up.

Pal is a bu*tlick. He should have had his a*s beat for that sh*t. Break the opponent's foot or ankle is not the thing to do. He's lucky that's all he got (suspension).

Well put, couldn't agree more. Daley got kicked out of the UFC for good, for hitting after the bell, which I agreed with, but this fool Palhares almost puts a guy out for good and gets a slap on the wrist.

Following Palhares for years : this guy is a dismantling machine.

    Very entertaining to watch.

I agree his last bout was edgy though...

I agree he is a great fighter but "edgy" is putting it a little lightly. He knew damn well he was holding that foot too long and could have possibly ended Drwal's career. Screw his "language barrier" excuses too.

Yeah, Toquinho his a great grappler and submission artist but I foresee a scrap in which Nate, being the more complete fighter from the two, will win by decision. Promising fight thou, very evenly matched fighters!

Nate is a beast - to say the least; even The Spider has commented on how much Nate has improved (since their fight in 07). And for a ground fighter to be effective, he first has to get you there.

Nate has incredible everything on his feet and it's topped off with a cardio to-go. I would have to figure that since his loss to Sonnen, he's been working on his wrestling (more) and should prove to be harder to take down; not that he wasn't before, it's just Sonnen's wrestling proved too much; as it is for all.

Nate is one of my fav's @ 205 and I'm hoping it's a solid victory for him, on his feet. However, been wrong before - I picked Nate over Sonnen (who he nearly submitted, but alas did not). So, as they say, anything can happen in a fight. Nate has all the tools to win.

Hopefully, this will be the first of a couple of wins that will put Nate back in a championship fight. Nate against any of the big three, Silva, Sonnen, Belfort, would be a great fight. Particularly given that two of those guys have victories over NM; a chance to redeem a loss and claim a belt, all in one night - sweet.

I agree with all of that except Marquardt fights at 185.

I'd love to see Nate in another fight against Silva. I think he might have the best standup in the UFC at 185 apart from Silva, and his wrestling is stronger than Anderson's, and even was when he was tossed around by Sonnen. Sonnen's is just that good, that fight didn't really speak to Marquardt's abilities or lack thereof, just to how dominating and strong Sonnen is.

War Nate, I hope he knocks Palhares's head off his shoulders. And then lands a few unnecessary followup shots knowing full well that Palhares is already unconscious. A little just desserts.

...not Nate's style. I'm sure you saw the fight (@ 185 :-) ) between Nate and Demian Maia; Nate is not the type of guy to throw or cause unnecessary damage. The finer point is that he's a Christian and takes it seriously. He would probably view it as sinful, to do so.

    I understand your sentiment, though.

It's disheartening to watch the video all over again of that piece of sh*t Palhares hold on to that foot and not let go. I think he blamed the language barrier or some ridiculous thing. I hope Nate pounds his face through the canvas.
