We are not that far removed from a time when a speech by UFC lightweight champion was used to motivate the New York Jets. The team had fallen to 2-3 and coach Rex Ryan gave Edgar a call to speak to his team.

The talk must have worked because the Jets went on to defeat the Miami Dolphins after Edgar paid them a visit.

The tables have turned a bit for Edgar, as this time it was Edgar receiving the call.  The champion, in Japan to defend his Lightweight title against Benson Henderson at UFC 144 received a call in his hotel from NY Giants defensive end Justin Tuck. Tuck, a member of the Super Bowl winning team from this season called to wish Edgar luck in his bout on Saturday.

I really appreciate Justin reaching out to me in Japan,” Edgar said. “It means a lot to a kid from Jersey who grew up watching the Giants. He said they were all rooting for me tomorrow night. It definitely got me even more motivated.

I can see how the guys on this site from other countries other than the US don't watch football but other than that it's crazy to me. I mean how can MMA be the only sport a person watches!?

Haters are going to hate... Giants are Super Bowl Champs... knocked off the best team in the NFL ( Packers )... then beat the second best ( 49ers )... Then beat the third best ( Patriots ) for the Super Bowl Championship.... The NFC East is the best division in the NFL because half the losses the Giants had all year, came from divisional opponents.... They barely made the playoffs in the first place due to their divisional losses.

Did the Jersey Shore cast call him up and wish him luck too? Edgar's wife fits in all too nicely with that crew.

I'm not a football fan but I still get the significance of this. Good for Frankie.
