Michael Bisping has his sights firmly set on a Middleweight title shot
Posted on October 8, 2010, 04:03 AM by Daniel CassidyJust over a week ahead of his UFC 120 bout with Yoshihiro Akiyama, Michael Bisping spoke out about his intentions for a title shot. Overall, the British fighter and TUF 3 winner is 19-3, losing only tom Rashad Evans, Dan Henderson and most recently Wanderlei Silva. Despite amassing a record of 2-2 in his last 4 fights, "The Count" maintains he still has his sights set on a title shot, and also believes he was robbed of a decision against Wanderlei Silva:
"I feel I’m really maturing as a fighter. I’ve got the experience under my belt. My skills are all coming together. I’m understanding the game a lot more. I’ve got the confidence back where I need to be. And I truly believe now I can make a run at the title.”
“Other than the Henderson fight and a bulls— decision to Wanderlei Silva, I don’t think I’ve lost at middleweight. I got beat by Dan Henderson and that’s it. I feel I won the fight against Wanderlei. Other than Dan Henderson, I’ve never been beat at middleweight. So I feel I’ve got a path to the title."
"I’m one of the better athletes in there. I’ve got to walk the walk. It’s all well and good me sitting here talking about it, but people don’t want to hear that, they want to see results. And I plan to deliver on Oct. 16.”“Right now I’m focusing on Akiyama. It’s going to be a tough fight and I’ve got the utmost respect for him. After the fight, fingers crossed, God willing I beat him, I just want to fight … I feel I’m in my prime now"
"I’d like to avenge the loss to Wanderlei. I feel I beat him on that night. I’d love to fight him again, but if it’s not going to be him, whether it’s Nate Marquardt, Chael Sonnen’s out, I don’t care who it is. Whoever the top dog is out there that wants the belt, I want to beat them and then fight for the title.”
A win over Akiyama could potentially see Bisping given a fight against the loser of Yushin Okami vs Nate Marquardt, and should he win that, a title shot would be close.
Bisping will headline UFC 120, along with a host of other British talent, such as Dan Hardy, who takes on the tough Carlos Condit, and John Hathaway, who faces Mike Pyle.

i don't think that bisping will get a title shot, or even win the title.... the only way that a title shot could come his was is if marquart and okami are set to fight and belfort gets injured... bisping must also beat akiyama.... only chance is if the whole damian maia thing happens again
And HA.
Here goes Bisping on another one of his "I'm awesome" rants. He so full of sh*t it should be leaking out of his ears by now.
A bullsh*t decision to Wandy? He BEAT you Bisping, get over it. And who have YOU beat Bisping, Leben? Who else? Anyone that's still in the UFC? Matt Hamill, I guess, but THAT fight wasn't a bullsh*t decision now, was it.
retard.
He can't beat Nate, Maia, Belcher, Okami, Sonnen, Belfort, or even Akiyama, how is he going to get a title shot?
As he said, Talk is all good but you have to back it up. He isn't claiming that he should get a title shot now, he just wants to beat Akiyama, take someone else from that top echelon and fight them, and if he does that, then I don't see why he should not be in for a title shot.
He's not like sonnen or dan henderson who expect to just be handed shots, he actually plans on earning them
come on sonnen wasnt handed a title shot he beat nate and okami to earn a shot and hendo was the pride mw champ so it was expected for him to get a shot
im a brit ( to put that out there).... but honesly as long as anderson chael or vitor are the champs bisping will never hold it.... probs even nate aswell.... but confidence is a good thing to have and every fighter wants to be champ and thinks they can be champ otherwise they wouldnt be doing it.... as much as everyone disagrees this is what every fighter wants and thinks and theres no reason why he shouldnt say it..... do i think he will be champ no.... he is well rounded but not strong enough in any area to out strike or out wrestle any of the top three
Having confidence is something every fighter should have, and every fighter should feel confident enough to make a title run. But let's face it, Bisping brings it to a whole new level every time he opens his big fat mouth. He shows little or no respect, and every single fight he's lost (except Hendo) he's pissed and moaned about it long afterward. If he would just be realistic and stop putting himself on a podium as the self-proclaimed greatest thing since sliced bread, then maybe he would have more than 3 fans.
Errr. Every fight he has lost? He lost a SPLIT to rashad. And that was at LHW. He lost to Henderson, and he has said several times that he got embarrassed on the biggest stage (UFC 100), and he got KO fair and square. Then the fight against wandy, I don't think he won it, but in my eyes he won the first round. Second round was close but the issue was the guillotine at the end probably stitched it up for him, and then the final round obv Wanderlei.
Fight metric has the fight as very close. Coupled with Takedowns etc. I don't think it is that far fetched that Bisping should feel he atleast came close to taking the win.
Bisping will get a title shot when I impregnate Arianny.
Shut up
My "Shut up" comment above garnered two "weak"s. Well, perhaps that was too harsh but I don't care for Bisping. I can't fault him for setting high goals but he seems to spout random lofty self assessments.
Let me revise my comment above: Shut up, please.
Dont really like Bisping, hes a ass most of the time but he does back it up a majority of the time. He talks about losing a bull decision to Wandi, well he WON a BULL decision against Matt Hamill....sooooo dont complain. Besides gettin hendo punched hes doing kinda well.
i really hate him.,.....and you sometimes!!!
BISPING IS A HASBEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love how he kept sayin Hendos name!!! Like yes i no i got the bomb dropped on me...good luck winning that title there MIKE!!!
I hate bisping..But wow you guys care so much what these guys say....NERDS
Something is not right, here.
Crippla and I signed up Bisping for StrikeForce (well) over a month ago, this fight should not be happening; he's supposed to be in SForce, (by) now.
I wonder if something went wrong with the application we submitted?
theres no way besping could stand with all the talent in the mw division right now or ever fro that matter and i would be surprised if he gets past akiyama and if he does the competition only get harder from there on.
idk Wing Chun......
Scott Coker musn't be interested....... i dont blame him tbh
poor ol' delusional Bisping, must be off his meds again coming out with statements like this?
bisping has his sights set on a 'title shot' he's definitely losing his grip on reality......
Michael dont give up first time........ there are other drugs you can prescribe to help deal with this!
all the best
Crippla
Regardless of whether Bisping will ever win the title, I think he might have Akiyama's number. He's a better striker than Akiyama (been having to work on his power, but talking about his defenses as well), he's got good takedown defense, he's never been submitted, and he's hard to hold down. On top of that he's way faster and has cardio for DAAAAAYS. I expect a jabbing fight from MB for the first two rounds and a dismantling of an exhausted Sexyama in the 3rd. Unless Bisping gets too aggressive too early, I think the advantage is his.
He's either gone crazy or just started juicing!
