Melvin Guillard knocks out Evan Dunham in the First Round
Posted on January 22, 2011, 11:05 PM by Anton Gurevich"The Young Assasin" Melvin Guillard made a huge statement at Fight for the Troops 2, with an impressive knockout victory over Evan Dunham in the first round. Guillard's sharp striking gave him the edge in the fight, as Evan Dunham struggled to keep the pace with the Greg Jackson's product. Melvin Guillard managed to defend well Dunham's takedown attempts, which gave him an opportunity to execute his stand-up gameplan.
Melvin Guillard managed to stun Evan Dunham with a powerful punch, which was followed by a vicious knee strikes that forced the referee to stop the contest at 2:02 of Round 1. Guillard delivered an illegal knee (on downed opponent) in process, but Evan Dunham was already out without any chance to come back to the fight.
It was Melvin Guillard's fourth consecutive victory. "The Young Assasin" is currently 27-8-2 in his MMA career, and surely in the mix of the stacked UFC Lightweight division.

Man he has fast hands!
O.K. Joe Rogan...
@evilways. did you not know he had fast hands until tonight?
your ufc career can change paths so quickly. Some thought dunham won against sherk, it was certainly close, but regardless he came away with a loss, now he has faced another top fighter but also come away with a loss. If he was to lose again and make it 0-3, could we see a guy who was being talked so highly off getting cut?
At LW, definitely.
Great win for Guillard...This kid is very dangerous
Wow! Guillard looked good. Dunham is no can, and Melvin steamrolled him. Excellent takedown defense, and impressive speed and power with his hands.
The LW division just keeps getting deeper and deeper.
I think I got like 10 Weaks about my comments saying Guillard KOs Dunham in the 1st
@vergina. well , good pick. iI was torn by guillard winning by ko with his great boxing or dunham to win by sub cos i believe thats guillards weaker area. Hence why dunham wanted to get him to the floor so quickly. I do find it funny that people weaked you for your pick it when his hand speed and boxing has always been good, and its also shocking that mma fans on here are only just realising now that he has good fast hands. Have they never seen him fight before?
Check my picks, I called it the exact same way. I wasn't shocked at all with the outcome.
said it months ago, hes one of the most dangerous in the division
He's always had the talent and is a great athlete, but now that he ha spent some time with G. Jacksons' camp he has finally started to become a MM artist. Good win Melvin you proved me wrong.
because he has like 60 fights, the dude has Jone "bones" Jones talent but has been fighting way before MMA has been considered a "real sport." Now that he is training with G. Jacksons Camp and seems to be sticking with it; the skies the limit for him.
@thisjeremybum. how come you keep asking this question?
I thought he threw two illegal knees. But on the replay ED raised his hand just in time for the first knee to land, second knee hit ED in the shoulders but i'm pretty sure it didn't land to be considered an illegal knee. Confidence is what Jackson brings and Melvin is benefiting from it. I say a one or two more fights and he'll be fighting for the belt. Now that i think about it Clay/Melvin or Melvin/Pettis should be consider for the number one contender, but i'm pretty sure if Clay beats Pettis he'll be fighting for the shot.
Oh you have to throw in Jim Miller into that as well for the number one spot. LW division had to be the deepest in the UFC, so many great fighters.
Yeah you're completely forgetting about Miller and Sotiropolis. Sorry about your timing Guillar but there are at least three, possibly five guys ahead of him in terms of a title shot. The lightweight division is such that now it requires a person to reel off a minimum of five convincing victories, perhaps more. Guillard had a great showing last night but he's a minimum of two fights away from a shot at the belt.
Also, if Clay beats Pettis, I don't see him getting the shot when both Miller and Sot are significantly ahead of him in terms of ranking.
guillard is one scary dude...
guillard vs. guida would be nice...
guida vs anyone would be nice
But Guillard Pettis would Be Better
Shocking results.
Dunham showed no respect for Guillard's speed and stand up skills, and paid for it dearly.
guillard vs. guida......there in the same camp.
something of beauty, that was a beautiful knock out, this kid have potential, keep it up
