Mauricio Rua won't retire until he gets a rematch with Rampage Jackson

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson first met in the opening round of the 2005 PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix. The fight was dominated by Rua’s outstanding striking, with Rua earning the TKO at the 4:47 mark of the first round.

Rua would go on to with the Grand Prix that year defeating Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Alistair Overeem and Ricardo Arona on his way to that championship.

Following their time with PRIDE, both fighters would move on to the UFC, with both capturing the UFC Light Heavyweight title.

Today, both fighters are coming off recent losses, Rua falling to Dan Henderson in a fight of the year candidate and Jackson dropping a fight to Ryan Bader.  The fighters are both in their early 30’s, but have had fairly long careers and if Rua has his way the two will meet one more time before they retire. “The fight against Rampage will happen eventually. It’s inevitable and UFC knows it. He won’t retire before fighting me and neither am I (laughs).” – for more see Tatame.com

Shogun would be a serious force if he moves down to 185 IMO. The LHW these days are much bigger than him.

Yeah and Brock Lesnar wouldn't be afraid of getting hit if he moved down to 135 but that's also not likely to happen. (sorry, just making a joke)

Size doesnt mean anything maN !

Look at the greatest of all time : FEDOR EMELIANENKO.

He doesnt care , he can fight big guys like : Antonio Silva ,or Small guys like the Korean Zombie or Shinya Aoki. He doesnt care .

Because in the street , you cant say to your agresor, I wont fight you cause you re not my weight class. LOL

Real fighters like Bj Penn and Fedor ,dont do GAMe plan either and fight on the moment like in the the street .

Yea, like he was against Bader... With that "Pride mentality" he is unstoppable.

Part sarcastic on my part. But if you honestly thought he was motivated when he didn't care to win and missed weight your idiot. No offense

Rua thinking to himself: "Hmmm, who can I fight that is respectable (or at least was) but is on the decline so that I can get a "W" and myself back on track?...."

I thought the decision with Hendo could have easily gone either way. And he was just way to out of shape for Jones not that the outcome would be different but he was out for a long time before that fight.

Rampage was in the best shape he has ever been in since being in the UFC, when he fought Jones.

Ill watch that! Shogun likes to stand up.

Tired of seeing Rampage fighting wrestlers (evans and bader) that just hold him on the ground with no chance of finishing the fight and turn it into a snooze fest.

Even though it will never happen I would love to see Shogun at 185. He will destroy Rampage again. I always like to see Rampage lose.

I think at this point of Rua's career, MW is likely beyond his reach. He is still young, but he has been in so many wars and beaten his body up so much, I don't think he would be able to make the cut and still have anything left in the gas tank. As much as I would like to see him at MW against guys closer to his own size, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

Wait. If Rampage doesn't decided to fight Shogun. What will happen? Will Shogun fight till he's 99?

I don't think it would be anything like a repeat of their Pride fight as they were both pretty much at their peaks then and as we've seen they no longer fight with the same amount of passion and desire to win as they once did, that's imo. Well, Rampage more than Shogun. Rampage seems to have lost his way a bit lately and he's definately not the same Rampage we know and love from the Pride days who used to go balls to the wall for the win. Shogun can still put on exciting fights as we saw against Hendo but he's still not AS exciting as he used to be if you ask me. Who knows, maybe this match up is what they need to get them both fired up and it could turn out to be a barn burner! i certainly hope so because i love both these guys man and they're both capable of SO much more, as we all know...........

He wants to avenge Wanderlie's KO by Rampage. I seriously doubt hes out looking for an easy fight. He just fought Dan and it wasnt a title fight. Why instant rematch on that?

Rampage is the P4P highest paid fighter for mediocre performances.
