Matt Mitrione is still training to fight Kimbo SlicePosted on March 6, 2010, 04:06 PM by Anton Gurevich
The Ultimate Fighter 10 participant Matt Mitrione revealed in his interview for Las Vegas Sun that he is still seeking for a fight against Kimbo Slice at UFC 113. According to the reports, Slice removed from the UFC 113 fight card to fight the Boxing Champion James Toney on April 17th (Strikeforce counter-program), but it looks like the fight is still on for Mitrione:
"I texted Joe Silva on Thursday night and asked what was happening, if there was any danger of this being cancelled. His response was basically that nothing was official and that I should keep preparing – that I’m still fighting in Montreal."
Matt Mitrione surprised everyone by knocking out the intimidating Marcus Jones at the Ultimate Fighter Finale, three months ago. Mitrione understand that a victory over Kimbo just in the second fight if his career will prove everyone that Illinois-native is a legit Heavyweight:
"I’m still preparing for Kimbo, and I firmly feel I would knock him out. Once I turn his chin and put him to sleep, that would be a great amount of exposure and a great stepping stone for my career. If it doesn't happen, it's not up to me to get pissed about it. It's not like I'm five days out of the fight, I still have a full camp ahead of me. But I would like to know so I can sit back and re-evaluate how I'm preparing."
It looks like the Ultimate Fighting Championship will pick a much more attractive Kimbo-Toney option, rather than giving the opportunity for Mitrione, who reached the semi-fnals of TUF 10 after defeating the experienced Scott Junk and James McSweeney.
