Matt Hamill gets Majority Decision victory over the bloodied Keith Jardine

Matt Hamill has probably scored the most important victory of his career, by defeating the fellow Ultimate Fighter veteran Keith Jardine. In a bout that is a worthy candidate for the Fight of the Night award, Hamill showed an amazing heart by unleashing takedown attempts and striking combination at Jardine. The Dean of Mean tried to make his best by using unorthodox striking, but it was Matt Hamill who managed to deliver most of the damage in the fight.

Keith Jardine has every reason to count himself unfortunate, after Herb Dean decided to deduct from him one point for an accidental eye poke. In the same process, Jardine received a big cut on his forehand, which allowed Hamill to capitalize and gain a little amount of control. The Dean of Mean battled his way through the third round, but fatigue and Matt Hamill’s stubborn approach.

In the end, Matt Hamill won a Majority Decision 29-27, 29-27, 28-28, which could go easily to Keith Jardine’s way if not the deducted point. Jardine is now on a three-fight losing streak in the UFC, and could see himself cut from the promotion after this event. As for Hamill, the Ohio-native is now on a four-fight winning streak, getting himself into the top flight of the UFC Light Heavyweight division.

Matt is a beast. But there needs to be a rematch between Jones and hamill, to determine who'll get the decisive victory, rather than leaving it at an unjust DQ.

Yeah, but every fight is different than the last. I want to see a rematch just so Jones can avenge his only loss. Not a traditional loss, but Jones deserves a win over Matt for the record.

We've seen a lot of fighters get beat down or on the verge of being finished or dominated and pull a win out of their ass. For example Big Nog over Tim Sylvia, Marcus Davis over Paul Kelly, Josh Neer over Melvin Guillard, Russow over Duffee, Valasquez over Kongo, Goveia over Lambert, Lambert over Sobral, Leben over Martin, Irvin over Martin, Alexander over Jardine, Sell over Smith, Big Nog over Herring,...anything can happen at any moment so it's not over until they make them quit or until the allotted time runs out

There's no need for a rematch. Jones dominated that fight.

This guy makes me sick at this point.... He got an eye poke, which from the last angle they showed, didnt even look like there was one, but lets say there was.... Drop to the ground? And people talk about Koscheck? Wow, who knew there was a pressure point around a guy's eye that could take his legs out... Then a point deduction for an accidental eye-poke? Thats odd considering Fisher accidentally headbutted Siver and opened a nasty cut and there was NO DEDUCTION.... Not to mention this guy swings after the bell. Its bad enough the guy blemished Jon Jones record when that fight should have been stopped before that elbow was even thrown... Besides that, a DQ? Not a deduction? A DQ? As if THAT blow is what put Hamill out of commission? Man this guy is getting preferential treatment now.... I have no bias towards a man with a handicap, that is exactly why he needs to be treated EQUALLY and needs to find a way to abide by the bell!!

There is a difference between head butts and eye poking since there is equal opportunity for both fighters to get cut in a headbutt situation.

I think the issue here is the refs. It seems like all you have to do now is put your hand over your eye and say "owie my eye" and the ref will just take your word for it and stop the fight. It used to be that you fought unless the ref stopped the action. Even if one fighter acted as though they were hurt the other fighter would still attack. Its what they are told to do by the refs before the fight.

I know its tricky because the refs don't see everything, but the refs need to remain in control of the fight instead of letting the fighters dictate when they need to call a time out. Its getting carried away.

I don't think there is preferential treatment. I think all signs point to inconsistent reffing.

    Just my opinion.

I did hear Herb Dean say to Jardine" Sorry, I have to..." when he was talking about the point deduction. Wonder what that was about.

Hey thanks for a refreshing counter-point without name calling or anything of that nature haha... When I first saw the post I cringed, like oh no here goes! Yea, I agree about the refs....

I wish more people understood the difference between attacking the post instead of the person... It would save me from having to stoop to that level, which I have no problem doing haha...

Although, I was thinking about your "equal opportunity" theory... I dont know how much weight that holds because obviously the person doing the headbutting has momentum on their side, which makes it much much more likely for the person on the receiving end to be cut or damaged...

Nah, it sux that it happened 2 jardine, that he got it first, but deducting a point for accidental eyepokes is the only way to stop them from running rampant. In the Kevin Burns fight against Anthony Johnson, kevin kept doing it over and over again, apologizing, but saying "hey, that's the way I jab. Otherwise, I could break my hand." If there's no incentive not to ipoke, cats like koscheck will do it intentionally 2 throw opponents out of rhythm of stifle their momentum.

If deductions 4 accidental ipokes become the rule, they'll disappear completely. It's a foul that is very easy to avoid committing if you have the proper incentive.

You guys think Jardine will be cut from UFC?

    He's on a 4 fight losing ...

yet he put up a good fight tonight (got Fight of the Night honors), the fight could of also ended in his favour (point deductionin Round 2 cost him.)

I personlly thought both guys looked slow and sloppy. It didnt look like Jardine had much power in those hands lastnight. The only thing that impressed me about the fight was Matts dirty box power. The rest of the fight was garbage. Both of these guys dont look like they should be in the top ten in the UFC. Im glad this fight was free.

man, jardine is one of my favorites fighters in the videogame, have his own style. But he's done, will be sad see him struggling to get a victory in the undercard. Its better make like crocop, go to japan or somewhere else, get some victories and return to ufc in a better fashion..
