Mark Munoz: 99 percent of Chael's talk is selling the fight, one percent is really him

Mark Munoz will face Chael Sonnen in January, when the UFC presents their second event on FOX.  The Middleweight bout will be included on a card that will be headlined by a Light Heavyweight fight between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis.

The bout between Munoz and Sonnen will mark the second straight fight for Sonnen where he has professed to have a friendship with his opponent. In fact, Sonnen and Munoz are under the same management team, MMA Incorporated.

When the topic of Sonnen and his well-known trash talk came up Munoz had the following to say, “It’s easy for me to push it away, me and Chael, we actually go way back, we got respect for each other and I don’t think he’s going to talk trash. Despite what everybody thinks Chael’s a good guy. We’re managed by the same manager and management team. We’re actually real cordial with one another.” Munoz then went on to say that, “About 99 percent (of Chael’s talk) is selling the fight, so it’s 1 percent him.

Munoz also speaks about the importance of sponsorship, the potential of the Sonnen bout leading to a middleweight title bout, the mental aspect of fighting and more.

anyone else think munoz was done after he got head kick ko'd in his debute by hammil? credit to him for beasting his way back into the title mix after the worst start possible in the UFC, that takes some mental toughness.

I believe this...When Chael was in WEC he basically never talked shit n wasnt that known, even when he came to the UFC, he only started talking shit around the time he fought Nate n thats basically the time where he became famous, Chael has become a great marketer but seems pretty fake

Very good matchup, I absolutely love this one. If Chael wins, the UFC HAS TO PUT IN AGAINST SILVA. If Munoz wins, he's now gonna feared by Silva as much as Silva fears Chael.

Also very nice matchup skillwise. Both very good wrestlers but is Munoz' punching power gonna overcome Chael's outstanding wrestling, or, he Munoz gonna be a better wrestler?

Very nice card too, middleweight and light heavyweight title eliminator + very good contender bout (Bisping-Maia).

Obviously anything can happen, but considering Munoz couldn't really even take down Okami. I don't think he's gonna have Chael on his back very much. Munoz only chance is landing some big bombs on their feet. But I think chael will come out with the same instant pressure as usual. And just like with Brian Stann, immediately get in Mark's face and take him down and beat him up. Munoz throws a lot of power in his shots. But Chael can take them as well as anyone. That became clear in the Marquardt fight when Chael ate that big knee and kept coming. I thought Sonnen said he wasn't fighting Munoz though, and that he was getting the winner of Bisping/Mayhem.

Even silva took chael down a couple times. Infact, he had the first takedown of that fight.

(IMHO) i'll go with PWM here; mark has improved significantly from 5 fights ago - to mention great tdd and improved stand-up and G&P.

Not take away anything from Chael, I think he has a good getting-close-wearing-down-the-opponent game plan (like what he did with AS and Stann recently); but stylistically, i see mark overcoming this with cardio and strength.

One thing Chael would not need to worry about on this fight is his submission defense against PWM - or should he?

Nonetheless, either of the two win, deserves a title shot; not just because Chael came close to dethroning AS - but he (would have) defeated two top contenders in the division in Munoz and Stann

Chaels the evil villain, we need guys like that. Everytime a fighter goes off in public this place lights up like a Christmas tree. If hes performing and bringing fans, Im ok with it. His antics have taken him from unknown to known, I dont think he'll stop with a plan thats working.

Munoz is a cool guy, Im ok with whoever wins.
