A middleweight showdown between top contenders Demian Maia and Mark Munoz is reportedly in the works for UFC 131 in June.

MMAMainia.com confirmed the match-up was in the works earlier today.

Munoz (10-2) has quietly climbed the ranks of the division, most recently knocking out All-American wrestler C.B. Dollaway just 54 seconds into their UFC on Versus 3 match-up.  The win improved his mark to 5-2 with the promotion, which includes victories over  Ryan Jensen, Kendall Grove and Aaron Simpson.  His last defeat came against current number one contender Yushin Okami, who was able to outpoint Munoz en-route to a split decision victory last August.

Maia (14-2), meanwhile, scored five straight submission victories with the promotion before his streak was interrupted by a knockout loss to Nate Marquardt at UFC 102.  In the time since, the Brazilian has won three of his last four, with his only loss coming by unanimous decision against division Champion Anderson Silva.

While not officially announced, UFC 131 is set to take place June 11th from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.  The event will be headlined by TUF 13 coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos, who will go head to head to determine the next Heavyweight title contender.

Tough fight for Muñoz without a doubt! If he can pull a "W" over Maia, would definitely put him in title contention.

The UFC is setting him up for a title shot more than likely. Munoz is one bad dude, and I think he will beat Maia, but I don't look forward to him possibly fighting Anderson Silva. Why doesn't Dana White permanently move Anderson up to 205? The guy's fu**ing huge. I'm tired of seeing him dancing around and walking through these smaller guys. Yeah, I know I'm off subject, but it just pisses me off !!!!

Munoz's ground n pound will be more risky to use on this one.

After Munoz's last fight, i think he'll believe in his hands more in the stand up. Showed some awesome power there.

im picking munoz via tko. the problem with this division is that its been swept by the spider taking away credabillity from credible fighter. munoz vs bisping would of made more sense.

Maia won't be able to take Munoz down, and even though he showed improved standup in his last fight it won't be enough to deal with the power of Munoz,

I really wanted Maia vs Bisping but this one might be a decent one.

I'm picking Maia by submission round three

I like the looks of this one on paper. Hope it turns out to be good. I think Munoz might just has what it takes to stop Maia
