Mark Munoz Inducted into California State Wrestling Hall of Fame
Posted on May 16, 2010, 10:07 PM by Joey SantosusThe UFC's heavy handed middleweight Mark Munoz was reminded where it all began this past Saturday night in Sacramento as he was inducted into the California State Wrestling Hall of Fame.Impressive as of late, "The Philippine Wrecking Machine," as he is know by fans, most recently defeated Kendall Grove by second round TKO at UFC 112 and earned Fight of the Night honors in the process. However, MMA was not his initial claim to fame. In 2001, Munoz won the NCAA Division I national championship for Oklahoma State, where he was also a two-time All-American. Prior to college, he was a high school national champion and a two-time California CIF state champion. Munoz even went on to share his talents as a wrestling coach at UC-Davis, the school responsible for launching the career of WEC's Urijah Faber (who was inducted into the UC-Davis Hall of Fame Saturday).Munoz, who is expected to return to the octagon at UFC 117, was accompanied by friends and family and said he was both "humbled and honored."Source to be Cited: UFC.com
