Demian Maia and Alan Belcher official for the UFC Fight Night 22 headliner

As UFC Fight Night 22 becomes official, it would appear that Alan "The Talent" Belcher's pleas for a step up in competition will not go unanswered.  Headlining the event will be Belcher himself facing former middleweight title contender Demian Maia.

Also official, the card will play out at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center on the campus of The University of Texas in Austin.

Belcher (16-6) was last seen at UFC 113 where he choked out Patrck Cote for a second round submission victory.  "The Talent" will look to build on his two-fight win streak in hopes of securing a shot at the division title.

Maia (12-2), in his first match since the UFC 112 disaster in Abu Dhabi, will look to put his loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva behind him.  Currently 1-2 in his last three bouts, the Brazilian needs a win to remain relevant at 185.

The September 15th event will also feature the lightweight rematch between Matt Wiman (12-5) and Mac Danzig (20-8-1).  They first met on the undercard at UFC 115, however their fight was cut short with a controversial ending.  Believing that Danzig had lost consciousness, the ref stopped the match and awarded Wiman with a submission victory.  Problem was, Danzig had neither went to sleep or tapped.  The two will look to set the record straight this time around.

Fight Night 22 will air on Spike TV September 15th at 8 pm ET and will likely serve as the lead-in for the season 12 premier of The Ultimate Fighter, which will feature current welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and number one contender Josh Koscheck as coaches.

This will be a great fight. Hopefully Alan can keep it standing. Maia has improved his striking too so who knows where this fight will take place.

"Currently 1-2 in his last three bouts, the Brazilian needs a win to remain relevant at 185." What ?!?! His only loses where to Nate and A. Silva(in a BS fight) and before that he beautifully subbed Sonnen who is fighting for the title next, and now he needs a win to stay relevant ? Im sorry but Maia is still near top of the MW division.

If someone loses 3 out of 4 fights, just because you are a fan does not mean they stay on top of the division. Are u even being serious? Losing 3 outta 4 fights a guy can still be considered a contender? Seriously? Lol, the things people say never cease to amaze me....

"His only loses where to Nate and A. Silva" What is that anyway? If he cant beat top contenders than he is probably irrelevant... Isnt that the whole point?

And then this part "A. Silva(in a BS fight)"

Yea I agree, it was BS because Maia was so incapable of doing anything that Silva just made an ass out himself and Maia for the hell of it.

Well put man. I specially agree the part of Anderson fight, I mean, although Silva made a fool of himself, it all started because Maia wasnt doing anything, he went to the fight very badly prepared with no way to take the fight to the ground, I mean, was he waiting for Anderson to fall on his back or something...? This is MMA, as in mixed martial arts...

It's easy to say "oh he lost 2 of his last 3 fights" but how about "he lost 2 of his last 12 fights" ?

Maia is in the top 3 of the MW division, like the guy above me just said, he easily subbed Sonnen, who is going to fight for the belt.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Belcher he called out A Silva and now he's got his last opponent. If he can tko Maia the Dana will probably pick him to be A Silva's last opponent and can anyone tell me what going on with Belfort every other relevant MW has fight coming up apart from him

Looks like a pretty good card. I am really happy that Mac Danzig is getting an immediate rematch. That last fight was stolen from him. I am not saying he would have won or lost just that he never got the chance to fight. I really hope that Tibau loses in devastating fashion. He is WAY too big for LW.

Miller and Tibau's style are almost identical, i see Tibau getting yet another decision win because of his size and strength

I'm not too familiar with Miller but that sounds about right. On the other hand Tibau has looked like he had a bad cut at this wt.

Ya'll watch Belcher get subbed in the first round. I REALLY don't wanna see Belcher win otherwise we will have to see him fight A.Silva and who wants to see him get demolished in the first minute ? Not me. Plus i think Maia has what it takes to sub him REAL quick without taking any damage. WAR MAIA

Yea, dont get me wrong, I dont mean to take away from Maia, he is very skilled, but he lacks the stand-up to really be a force at 185lbs. Plus what I said is true in the world of pro MMA... If he wants to remain relevant, he has to win this fight. I mean in reality he might be in danger of being cut knowing the UFC.
