god i hate Mayweather. he's such a ****y racist bastard. saying manny pacquio eats cats and dogs and stuff. everyone knows if someone said something racist about Mayweather he'd make a big production of it and act like some victim. I wish he'd take a novelty MMA fight and get schooled in real fighting just like James Toney did.

I wonder what prompted Jones to allow this to happen? Yeah, he is a Christian no doubt but 50Cent sends a Bad message to the youth. He has no respect for Women, talks smack with straight ignorance and has the nerve to wear 100K Cross! WTF is wrong with this picture!?!?

funny this...when ufc was underground the whole idea was to generate mass appeal by commercialising it...at this point it's big, but not nearly as big as other sports like football...adding a celebrtity to the event is always a good thing as it drives in traffic...and let's face it...50 cent is one of the biggest stars of all time...any way to bring more awareness to the UFC is great for the sport...it also adds a higher degree of production value overall...In 2015 i wanna be sitting watchingshakira perform at the ufc halftime show:)

I'm guessing women's MMA will die at the UFC level, that's a shame, but I don't see White ever letting women fight in the UFC.

    @ Cage

Ya know, I've done such an about face on this topic. I have to admit, I was not one who gave much credit to W-MMA, but I was seriously wrong. Not only are there some seriously good female fighters out there, but they put on some amazing shows. I have certainly seen W-MMA bouts that were more exciting, hard-hitting and high paced, than some M-MMA bouts; ...rhymes with "Isping", cough, cough . :-)

I think eventually DW will come around on this subject, it is a business and the sport is growing with women and not just as spectators, but as practitioners. It would only stand to reason that the demand to see W-MMA in The UFC will grow and that the ownership will capitulate; this is a business, after all.

Concluding - I personally have come to accept that W-MMA is equally as exciting as M-MMA, certainly at the (relative) lower weight classes and that it deserves to flourish and be brought into the mainstream. This is not your grandma's era of female fighting, nor is it the W-NBA...this is some exciting stuff, full of some very talented and tough ladies and dare we even say (some) - beautiful; Gina Carano, anyone?

Long Live W-MMA. They have earned their respect and their place at the table and in The Octagon.

Oh I do for sure, just give it time man. You can't tell me those women don't look hot as hell in the ring(except cyborg). And they are very good fighters, I love watching them. The pool of fighters just needs to grow, that's all. The televised fights in strikeforce got a lot of viewers too. People want to see them.

    @ The Thread

I think I'd have to agree with Cage; it's a monopoly. If it's not, then as Overhand Right said, it's practically or virtually a monopoly. They now control every major fighter you could name. There are no real options, anymore; not if a fighter wants to have a serious career.

In terms of defining the monopoly - With the purchase of StrikeForce, The UFC has placed the "barrier to entry" at such a high level (for any new competitors), that in order to compete with them you would / will need an enormous amount of money; huge. The UFC has now and could come up with (at the drop of a hat) all the money they would ever need to crush anyone that wanted to get into this business. They have become the NFL of MMA, period and no one competes with the NFL; many have tried, but none of them have had any success.

Bottom Line - The UFC is now, in all but name only, a de facto monopoly.

It is a monumental task to even come close to competing with the UFc at this point. They have such a tremendous headstart on any young promotion in terms of talent, brand recognition, global expansion, money and power.

The only way I see any new promotion filling the gap that will be left is if a billionaire decides to invest in MMA (such as Donald Trump did with Affliction) and start his own promotion. Fighters want money at the end of the day and they'll go where te best deals are.

i dont see why is a monopoly, monopoly is like gasoline here in mexico when there is only one brand called pemex and its owned by the gov. they bought strikeforce cuz they where running out of bussines but who ever wants and has the money can come up with an organization

I don't get it. Why would the talented and tough John Jones, bring a ****ing wanna-be, has-been, talentless, steroid using, piece of barely literate crap like 50, to the cage with him?

JJ is or is going to be the best in the world; if not this Saturday, then at another date (soon), but either way, it's going to happen. 50, on the other hand, couldn't be the best at anything, if he tried. His whole "career" (cough, cough) has been nothing but hype; he has absolutely nothing to say.

If JJ were to walk to the cage with a rapper like Paris or Immortal Technique, then I could live with that. At least those guys have something to say; something to rap about other than getting high, a chick's ass, money and "da club".

it is plain and simple zuffa is not a monopoly the control the majority of the market but thats it besides they put on more great shows than anyone else the pay their fighters better than anyone else and for the most part treat their fighters well. just because the dont give in to every guys demand and stroke their egos doesnt mean the are crappy employers.

Strikeforce were putting on much more exciting cards than the UFC. It's practically a monopoly. JMMA is on its last leg and will likely be all but vanished by next year and Bellator was a far 3rd in terms of quality of fighters from SF and UFC (although now I'm even hearing rumours that they too could be bought out soon enough).

Let me ask you this: what happens to the guys who aren't champions or contenders but who were signed to Strikeforce and making a decent living? Somtehing tells me they're going to be left behind when the UFC merges with SF (like what happened in Pride) and they'll be reduced to fighting for next to nothing in tiny regional shows. Same for guys that Dana doesn't like e.g. Barnett and Daley.

strikeforce was putting on exciting cards not much more exciting cards plus they paid their fighters crap and treated most of them like $hi!t just ask jay heiron how great SF is. he was promised a title fight then he fought once on smaller show and was later put on the shelf for a year till his contract ran out. there is also no one at SF who isnt a champ or a top contender that is making more than 5000 a fight and they only get the chance to fight once or maybe twice a year they are not losing much.

Strikefroce had around a 70% finish rate for most of their cards, some were even higher. UFC's are more like 40-50%. and that's not to imply decisions are always boring but by and large I can't remember seeing a boring lay and pray fight in SF anytime recently. Melendez vs Aoki is the only fight that I remember watching that really bored me.

Alistair Overeem fought 8 times including his K1 fights in 2010, something he wouldn't be allowed do in UFC. Nick Diaz fought 4 times. Gegard Mousasi fought 3 times. Strikeforce gave fighters the freedom to just fight wherever and whenever. It's under Zuffa that they'll only get to fight 2 times on average each year.

50 was marketable to sell WATER to coca-cola for millions and whether you like him or not as an artist it doesnt matter; "Get Rich or Die Tryin" went DIAMOND!! Like Dana said there is a relative small window of time and oppourtunity to become well known and make that big money. My opinion is hats off to Jones if he wants to walk down with whoever he wants. If in the end it brings new viewers to MMA and puts money in everyones pockets everyones a winner, ya digg?

All things aside though I see Jones being slightly overtrained and overdistracted for this fight..I hope its a good night for the veterans and Shogun, Faber, and Mirko all come out with a WIN saturday

Can you sense the disaster waiting to happen? Shogun will be KOing this overated, ****y, star humper in the 1st round. Then it will be off to a mediocrity.

BTW, this nitwit 50 Cent is nothing more than a "studio thug" poser. This guy would have his ass handed to him in the street, barring packing a piece that is.

Lord knows the "inner city" tough scum need their "black market 9mm" to show how tough they are...........I mean, AREN'T!

This is just pathetic. Please tell me Zuffa and the UFC wouldn't go this low for marketing. Oh wait, they would [face palm].

I understand they're trying to reach an African American demographic (especially with Jones) but coming out with a rapper is something an egotistical Boxer or WWE superstar does... not something a so called Martial Artist does.

I agree, if Jones does come out with 50 cent, I will lose respect for him. I'm already getting tired of his mouth and antics.
