MFC President Mark Pavelich launches a tirade against Dana White

I am disgusted by the way MMA clothing brands are buckling to “DW’s” handling of contracts regarding the sponsorship of specific fighters. It’s almost comical – not on his part but on the part of these clothing companies. They cave in and pay his organization a great deal of money just to have the opportunity to sponsor fighters, who they then pay an individual fee to as well.

What these clothing brands fail to understand is that the entire organization that “DW” runs is sponsored by a competing clothing company. These other brands are paying to represent themselves, yet they will never get the brand recognition they are seeking since the company itself has what would be considered a title sponsorship with another clothing brand – probably the most-recognizable brand in the industry.

You are competing in an uphill battle that you can never win. Now “DW” has instructed these other clothing brands that they have to stop sponsoring other MMA events or they will not be allowed to sponsor fighters in his event – even after fully paying him for the right to sponsor and paying the fighters individually. He is collecting money by the armored truck full from these companies, and yet he’s still able to tell them where to spend the rest of their money at the same time. Has he or anyone in his company ever heard of something called “restraint of trade?”

In a million years, you would never get away with this is other sports. I would like to see Nike, Adidas, or Reebok be told how and where they can spend their sponsorship dollars. It would never happen. Maybe it’s time the Maximum Fighting Championship stopped helping MMA clothing brands build their business, and for these businesses to be bullied into these types of situations, caving in, and walking away from what helped them get launched in the first place.

These companies are compromising their long-term futures and don’t even realize it. Right now they are not even running their own companies. “DW” is running his show … and yours.

Speaking via an official MFC press release, conpany's CEO Mark Pavelich critiqued the way Dana White does business. Like or loathe the UFC President, some of the facts do ring true. It was only a few short months ago that Dana White threatened to ban all TapouT merchandise from all UFC events for simply offering to supply Fedor Emilianenko with a walk out T-shirt for a bout against Fabricio Werdum. With both sides making their stances clear, what do the LowKick'ers think? Does Dana White have a stranglehold over clothing brands? Or is Mark Pavelich went a little bit off the line with his article?

I'm definitely NOT a White fan but Pavelich is an idiot and, it seems, sometimes acts like a jealous little girl.

Mark Pavelich? He's the MFC President. He has a vastly overinflated sense of his company's value. To be fair MFC is a quality 2nd or 3rd Tier promotion.

    Hello CageRage64,

You are obviously not in business because big busines with lots of money does get beat by small business. Bang & Olufsson is a perfect example of a small brand beating the worlds biggest brands in a luxury market segment.

thats not the best counter argument. you named one company im sure close to noone has heard of. and the reason big businesses are big is because they are more sucessful then other companies in the same market. your argument contridicts itself before it even starts by saying the world " small business"

    Hi Bluntsandbeers,

I think you are right, perhaps a better counter argument because as you point out, a brand in the luxury sector is less well known than more main stream examples. I would therefore suggest the rise of Apple against Microsoft is more appropriate.

    Best wishes

agree with what he is saying. This is why 10% of me likes dana. 90% of me hates whats he does and how he acts. But as a fan, the shows are the most important thing. The clothing companes and fighters can sort heir own negotiations out.

Well said. DW is a monopolist and is killing the growth of MMA.its so bad that people know UFC and don't know MMA. As though UFC is a sport in itself. Very well said. Another problem is the ranking system its extremely biased.Well Fedor lost to Fabricio Werdum, why wasn't FW put as no.1,instead they put Brock as no.1.Then when Brock loses he is still above Fedor and Werdum. That's sad.

Lets see. Who is working their asses off to get santioning in New York? UFC. What is strikeforce and every other knicker knocker organization doing? Jack shit. They sit on their asses and wait for UFC to pave the way. DW may be looking after his business, but he certainly isn't trying to slow the growth of MMA.

What does rankings have to do with White? Of the UFC for that matter?

whoever thinks the UFC or Dana White is "leading the way in this great sport" of ours is sadly mistaken. Zuffa's goals are short-term to MAKE THE MOST MONEY ASSAAAAP not to grow MMA and t-shirt thing we were talking about like weeks ago and no one cared. I thnk Mark Pavelich is a little nutty but that doesn't change the fact that as I was reading this I couldn't help but cheering him on "GO GO!!!"

Abu dhabi , England, Germany, Canada and who knows what the future brings! Common man, that just making a stupid comment without even trying to think. Can't believe you got 2 sharps!

Why do you guys think that the UFC is killing MMA. In a sense UFC is similar to the NFL, MLB, NBA, or NHL. What would happen if the UFL OR XFL ran different leagues successfully with all the talent of the NFL in their leagues. How popular do guys think football would be in our country without the NFL? The UFC like the NFL consolidates all the talent so they put on great cards, better cards than strikeforce or smaller promotions. These exciting cards like UFC 100 expand the sport by excitement and get more fans into the sport.

I agree 100%, MMA wouldn't be so big if the UFC wasn't here, ZUFFA invested a lot of money in a money losing organisation and they succeeded and made the UFC to what it is today. And the reality is you need to make a profit as organisation or you will go down under and that would be terrible for the upcoming sport of MMA . Dana White has a (in my opinion) "bad" habit of speaking before he thinks,l but he is one hell of a businessman and you gotta be hard to make things happen in that world. And Dana delivers the events and the fights! You can hate him as much as you want, but he (Mainly, and all the others involved in the UFC + the fighters) made the sport to what it is today.

I agree I think it's inevitable that some practices are not gonna suit everyone but it takes a group of guys with huge ambition and a bit of ruthlessness to do what they've done with the UFC since they took over. Everyone hates the big dogs but I only hate the ones who's product isn't actually that good like McDonalds or KFC but Starbucks for example actually sell good coffee so I've got no problem with them. The UFC has been able to put on the events that I want to see nay must see, especially since Pride went under and now they're working towards a situation where we could be getting great events everywhere and great new talent can come through more quickly that's as good as it can possibly be for the time being issues with clothing brands are not really issues for me.

Haha all you shit talking Dana White haters are just retarded. You know damn well he's the most influential man in the sport and made it an actual sport. He's the reason we even have this website or even care about who is ranked above who or even wear the clothing. He bring the best fights and puts your whining little asses in the seats whether it's at the event or at home. He made something out of nothing and built an empire, I dont see any of you bashing Hugh Hefner for doing the same thing. You know damn well if you had the chance you would take his life style and bank account in a second. He speaks what's on his mind and doesn't care about little bullshit because he has better things to worry about. This guy is just another whine ass who lost his best 155er to him (Antonio McKee) and wants to throw his little tantrum just like all of you little keyboard warriors in your mom's basement with your little pecker in your hand. Get over it and quit your bitching you're worse than my girlfriend on her rag, act like you have a pair

I agree with you SpiderSilva. People hate on Dana because they are only looking at it as fans. The UFC is just like any other business and its doing very well. There are times I disagree with choices he makes but at then end of the day he created a booming business from crap hole tent fights that was going under. He saved MMA in this country and made it more popular than ever. Other organizations formed because of this man and some live on because of him. The UFC holds the best cards and the biggest names. I give him props and all his haters will bitch but still watch the fights he puts on,

Let's slow down hear and look at the facts of the situation. Dana White is the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Mark Pavelich is the president of Maximum Fighting Championship. There is no one forcing Mr. Pavelich or his company to due to business with the UFC. There is no one forcing any of these MMA specific clothing brands to due business with the UFC. If Mr. Pavelich feels that the UFC is not offering a fair or beneficial contract to his company he can choose not to do business with the UFC as can all of the self proclaimed MMA clothing brands. If the UFC has built such a strong company and brand that an outside company such as MFC can't survive without the UFC than either take what they are offering you or go into another business because Dana White and the UFC don't have a gun to anyone's head saying you must advertise here. They are completely free to advertise in any of the other thousands of advertising spaces. You called them, they didn't call you. You need them, they don't need you. They built the sport you are now trying to come into and make money on. They paved the way for MMA as a whole by making GOOD decisions, this business and power were not handed to them by some magical God. They created the entire situation which in turn gave them the power to rule over the situation they created. MFC would never have a chance of existence if the UFC didn't do everything they have done for the last 10 years because no one would even know what the term MMA meant.. This website that we are on wouldn't exist, the fighters who support their families and pay their bills would not have jobs. If Mr. Pavelich had created modern MMA and built an empire around the sport that he created than he would be in a position to call all the shots. He did not. He should be grateful that Dana White and the UFC built a sport and a culture for him to walk into and piggyback his business on. Maybe the UFC and Dana White know a little more than people like Mark Pavelich do, they wouldn't be in the position they are in today if they didn't.

All you people that think Dana White created mma are sadly mistaken. The ufc is as big as it is mainly because of Bonnar vs Griffin at tuf 1 (well known fact that Dana in all his wisdom was very much opposed to TUF) after tuf people really started paying attention to the ufc again and at that point you can thank Chuck Liddell for people continuing to pay attention will more and more marketable guys started coming in. All of us who actually watched mma before TUF 1 can thank Dana for attracting the uneducated wwe type crowd to the sport by talking like a 16 year old wannabe tough guy. Could you imagine how succsesful ford or microsoft would be if there presidents spoke like Dana. They would be out of business. So enjoy your Dana kool-aid and have a nice day.

Dana is a tool .. but a sharp one.

This is all about exclusivity of brands for the future. Just like the fighters themselves have to give their marketing rights to Dana for life.

10yrs from now the MMA landscape will be very different than it is today. The UFC will not be able to house/contract all the good fighters or even some of the best .. just too many on the way.

If he really cared about advancing MMA like he often spouts then this should be a good thing. But he really only cares about the UFC and his money.
