Posted on March 23, 2010, 04:33 PM by Daniel CassidyLongtime UFC lightweight Duane Ludwig is to have surgery on his horrifically broken ankle this Friday. He suffered this injury on UFC on Versus last Sunday in Broomfield, Colorado as a result of a takedown from Darren Elkins. This injury will take Ludwig at least 6 months to recover from.
Sven Bean, Ludwig's manager, confirmed the proposed surgery, saying that 3 metal pins will be inserted to repair the break. One pin will be removed during the healing process, leaving Ludwig with 2 pins permanently in his ankle.
Ludwig said of the surgery:
“I look at this as just another challenge I have to face. I’ll be back before everybody expects. I’m going to be back.”
January seen Ludwig's return to the octagon, only to lose by submission to Jim Miller in the first round. Last Sunday's fight with Darren Elkins was the second on Ludwig's current contract with the UFC.
