Ultimate Fighting Championship will return to action this Wednesday, with a free SpikeTV-aired Fight Night 22: Marquardt vs Palhares event. Here's short picks from LowKick.com Staff and the All-Time LowPick leader HunterB, on who will leave the Frank Erwin Center victorious.
We would also like to remind you that the picks for UFC Fight Night 22 are still open. Feel free to submit your picks via the Events page.
Nate Marquardt vs Rousimar Palhares (Middleweight Division)
Top Prediction: Nate Marquardt via TKO in Round 3
HunterB: Unfortunately, Palhares' take down ability is nowhere near the "Olympic Wrestling Quality", which has been the only weakness in the past few years for Marquardt. This will be an easy "Sprawl and Brawl" night for "the Great"... Marquardt wins by Decision.
Anton Gurevich: I consider Nate Marquardt as one of the most skilled Mixed Martial Artists out there. In my eyes, it will be the replay of Marquardt vs Gouveia. "The Great" via TKO in the Second.
Daniel Cassidy: Phalhares is a fighter on the rise, and Nate needs to avoid making any mistakes, and keeping it standing. Phalhares will look to take it to the matt as quickly as possible, and will look to catch a limb and tap Nate out. Palhares via Round 1 Submission.
Joey Santosus: Marquardt's wrestling should ensure this one is contested on their feet, where his solid footwork and superior striking will clinch the decision. Nate Marquardt via Decision
Efrain Escudero vs Charles Oliveira (Lightweight Division)
Top Prediction: Efrain Escudero via Decision
HunterB: Charles Oliveira is one of the best fighters in the LW division of the UFC, who's not in the public eye. He will for sure be a future LW contender.... Unfortunately for Oliveira though, Efrain Escudero is slightly bigger, stronger, and faster than the Brazillian in almost every aspect of this fight.... Efrain Escudero will win by decision, but this will be a close contest due to the "heart" of both.
Anton Gurevich: Experience will play a huge part here. Efrain Escudero recovered well from defeat against Dunham, as I expect him to continue his run against Oliveira. I think this one will go to distance. Escudero via a dominant Decision.
Daniel Cassidy: This match will be highly entertaining for all wathcing, but very tough for the two fighters. I think it will go back and forth, until Oliveira manages to put Escuedero in a bad position and look for some heavy GNP. Oliveira via Round 3 TKO.
Joey Santosus: "do Bronx" -- In Portuguese it means "The Ghetto." Get used to hearing it, this kid is going to be a star. Charles "do Bronx" Oliveira via 2nd Rnd Submission
Gleison Tibau vs Jim Miller (Lightweight Division)
Top Prediction: Jim Miller via Decision
HunterB: Gleison Tibau and Jim Miller have basically the same style of fighting... I would really love the outcome to be different then what i am predicting but let's be honest. Tibau will take this fight once again on sheer size and ground control... Another decision win for Gleison Tibau.
Anton Gurevich: It's a very tough fight to predict. With a possible title shot hopes on the line, Jim Miller has much more to lose in this fight. That's why I'll pick him to edge Tibau via Decision.
Daniel Cassidy: Miller is a guy very comfortable off of his back and can trouble anybody, due to his submission skills. I think he should overcome Tibau with some ease, probably catching him in a Submission in Round 1.
Joey Santosus: Great match-making here. It should be a close one, but Miller's hands will make the difference. Jim Miller via Decision
Ross Pearson vs Cole Miller (Lightweight Division)
Top Prediction: Ross Pearson via TKO in Round 3
HunterB: Ross Pearson has the ability to take this fight wherever he wants. Cole Miller doesnt even have a "puncher's chance" to take out Pearson. "Maghrino's" only chance is to work subs on the ground, and Pearson's blue collar training regime is way too much for Cole Miller to even get close to this position.... Ross Pearson by TKO Ref stoppage late in the 2nd round.
Anton Gurevich: I'm a huge fan of Ross Pearson. But Cole Miller is a tough guy, who will surely look to take the fight to the ground as soon as possible. But I believe in Pearson to weather the storm. My pick is Ross Pearson via TKO in the Round 3.
Daniel Cassidy: Both fighters will be looking to make a statement in this fight. Cole and Pearson are very skilled and well rounded fighters, but I think Pearson has better stand up and will use it to catch Miller with a big hook. Pearson via TKO in Round 2.
Joey Santosus: Miller will be Pearson's toughest test to date. Expect "The Real Deal" to close the distance and use wrestling and clinch work to beat him up for three rounds. Ross Pearson via Decision.
