Diaz is good but the only thing he has on GSP I think is a better guard and to my knowledge GSP has never been in danger of being tapped while in top position so I don't think that's enough to come close to challenging him. I'd like to see that fight anyways.
Id rather see Diaz vs Silva even tho they are in different weight classes, but just so i can see them try and out taunt each other. It would be entertaining. Diaz's ironclad jaw along with his cardio could make for fireworks. (He might take a bad beating though)
Lol at the taunting comment but Chris Leben has a great chin, Forrest Griffen (had) a great chin and look what happened to them. You need a whole lot more than a good chin to take a punch from Silva
Diaz Silva would be a massacre, Diaz wouldn't have the comfort of his reach advantage so much that he seems to use very well in his stand up. his stand up would look like a childs against Silva and on the ground I couldn't see him being able to sub him so it'd be a long painful night for Diaz. and Vs GSP? does he have the right stuff? Go to the homepage of lowkick scroll down til u see the top 10 p4p listing look where GSP is and look where Nick Diaz ISN'T enough said
People tend to forget that GSP is a striker who became an awesome wrestler, I don't think his boxing is there with Diaz, but I think he is alot faster...it is a good matchup though.
I'm a big GSP fan and agree with all of what has been said. Also, GSP's takedowns are unstuffable BUT Diaz I think Diaz would have a big reach advantage if I'm not mistaken.
because GSP's Wrestling would nulify Diaz's skills IMO, and Georges would dominate from start to finish..... its starts on the feet but GSP would take it to the ground and either choke him out..... or Decision him.... End of Story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"GSP would take it to the ground and either choke him out... or decision him... End of Story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not quite. Once it goes to the ground GSP could get subbed himself by triangle, gogoplata, armbar, kimura, or RNC. Unlikely-probably. Possible-definitely.
I'm pretty sure GSP would mess up Diaz in the striking also. Diaz landed way less strikes in the Noons fight, if you watch the ratio chart. He may have been more effective. But Noons landed more, and a higher percentage of strikes thrown. At the same time, I didn't think Noons won the fight, but as far as scoring, Diaz didn't really do more, he just looked more busy. GSP would destroy him though.
Yup plus the striking of GSP might be better then Diaz solely on the fact that Diaz would be very cautious of the takedown, and GSP has excellent takedowns. They are nearly just automatic takedowns.
Look at the question of the poll. DO you think Diaz has what it takes to beat GSP? Of course he does with his striking and black belt in gracie ju jitsu. His camp is phenominal right now and in their prime. And GSP has what it takes to beat Diaz. Those desicion loses against wrestlers came when Diaz was 22/23 years old. He is alot better now and even back then he had enough energy to fight those guys backstage or at the hosptial, so was he really beaten? Lock him in a room with those same guys take away time limits and stand ups and diaz comes out every time. Somone said diaz couldn;t stand with UFC's "top tier" welterweights. Look at Diaz's last 5 fights and compare it with Dan Hardy or Kosckeck and you will see the former is fighting tougher opponents.
Yeah, look at Diaz's last 5 fights...so? Who has he fought? Name one of those five who can be considered elite. You're basing your Diaz=badass equation off of performances against average competition.
I was actually just having this discussion as the fight ended. I do not think Nick would do very well against GSP and a couple other UFC Welterweights. If nothing else GSP would easily control him. Nick's takedowns are very weak and he uses poor technique in terms of setting them up. He has excellent jiu-jitsu, but in MMA if you cannot manage to bring your opponent to where your strengths lie they are useless...
I don't even think Diaz has that big of an advantage in BJJ department. GSP has never been beat in grappling and he's faced Fitch and BJ. Stand-up wise... well Diaz doesn't put a lot behind his punches and kicks and if GSP felt uncomfortable... he'd just take him down.
Matt Hughes tapped out GSP, but GSP did get that win back with an armbar in their 3rd fight, I saw it personally. Happened to be the same sub Hughes got him with in their first fight. Since that one loss by sub, GSP hasn't been outgrappled at all, and Diaz wouldn't stand a chance in that fight.
Nick Diaz ground game is awesome... Very long legs.. He could catch GSP with a beautiful submission.. I have it 60/40....GSP has an advantage. Would be an awesome fight.
diaz has always had a hard time against wrestlers sean sherk destroyed him sanchez put a beating on him ect ect. diaz is a exciting fighter but is really only a big fish in a very small pond. gsp is a shark and would put a beating on diaz as would most of the top tier ufc ww division
There is not one aspect of the game that I see Diaz winning. Georges is physically superior and more well rounded. Georges could out strike him or control him on the ground.
Unless Diaz can learn to stuff the takedown in a way that no other GSP opponent in the last few years has been able to do then I don't see Diaz "frustrating" GSP.
what about wrestling, huh? GSP would threw Diaz all over the mat and win a decision. Yeah, I don't think GSP could stop Diaz but Diaz didn't stop Noons either so...
I remember a year ago when everybody thought Machida was invincible and Shogun had no chance because he lost to forrest griffin. Now those same people are on Shoguns nuts. Do some of you just root for whoever the champion is? I bet alot of you were patriot fans a couple years ago but saint fans now.
what's scary good about Diaz and what makes me think he can beat, literally, anyone at 170 is his size and reach and how effectively uses it. KJ is a stellar striker (and thoughI wanna see a rubber match because of his broken jaw and hand) and Nick was able to stay outta the pocket with him and utilize his reach very effectively...I don't know how'd he handle GSP's takedowns or his strength but it'd be soo interesting to see!
I was disappointed, i thought that the boxing that was displayed was really poor, on both counts.
Noons is supposed to be among the best strikers in MMA??!
Hell no, there is no way he is that good!!!!
Is punches weren't exactly fast and crisp, he's head movement and footwork werent that good either. He's combinantions were ok, but he loads up too much. You should finish your combination with a power shot, and let the lighter faster punches open up his defenses.
Although i'm sure he has some power.
Theres plenty of guys that would outstrike him.
I'm tired of them hyping up fighters and saying "he's among the best strikers in MMA" just because he has fought some pro-boxing or kick-boxing matches.
That doesn't mean that he was a good boxers/kickboxer, just as all MMA fighters arent worldclass either. As a boxer/kickboxer KJ Noons would be medium class at best, never in the near vicinity of the top tier boxers and he should stay away from the top-strikers in the MMA game too.
Diaz boxing wasn't that good either, and his takedowns is a apsect of the game he really needs to work on together with his striking
.
There is a reason why they are in Strikeforce and not in the UFC, although there a couple of guys in SF that really could make it big in the UFC.
GSP would molest him like a little girl standing OR on the ground.
He's at another level than Diaz, and he's bjj wouldnt help him that much either.
im suprised diaz is champion in his promotion ahahah muther****er couldnt even finish kj noons ahhahaahahaha gsp would ****en muder his ass quickly and i dont even like gsp
Finally someone agrees, it's so hard watching Diaz (both of them actually) and their slaps they call punches there are at least 13 fighters in both SF and UFC that could easily take out Nick IMO, Paul Daily, dont like him, but he would be afraid like noonz was, and he would actually just keep hitting Nick and it would be marvelous
Yea maybe Diaz will be a star when he is 37? This guy has been in the game for real long, hes well rounded (minus wrestling), and his striking style is one of the most effective in MMA. He's a goood athlete with great cardio, he just lacks some strength and explosiveness, but he makes up for it in technique. GSP would just have to much athletism and strength to overcome imo but he would do well against any other welterweight out there, gsp is just on another level tho.
Diaz was in the UFC watch karo perisian just beat on him, if people are afraid of diaz "slaps" they easy outstrike him, his punches are all show and only cause visible damge, blood, bruises etc. people basically throw their faces into his punches when they get KOed
If GSP is so untouchable why cant he gain 15 pounds and dominate the middlewights. Probably because he is not strong enough and his style wouldn't can't help him with that.
They asked "Does he have what it takes" not "would he". There's a big difference. Werdum showed hes has what it takes to beat Fedor, but if they fight 100 times, i bet against him every time. Diaz's toughness, endurance and BJJ skills inarguably give him some chance of subbing GSP over a 5 round fight. Thus, he "has what it takes."
I am not a stoner and I voted for Diaz in this poll. However, if you asked me for an actual fight pick, it's gonna be GSP every time.
i think diaz would either outstrike and win by decision or submit gsp his striking and ground skills are topnotch and gsp has wrestling and thats it he out wrestles everyone and that's how he wins and no matter what thats how he will always fight because if his standup skills were gonna get better they already would have.

as much as i like Diaz as a fighter, who dosent stand a chance vs GSP
Diaz weak spot is his wrestling! while GSP is the best wrestler
beside GSP stand up is awesome too but he dosent use it as much since the Serra TKO loss , but just Remember Gsp vs Hughes 2
Gsp was picking him apart with strikes and kicks!
NO GSP IS KING :D
I'm a big GSP fan and agree with all of what has been said. Also, GSP's takedowns are unstuffable BUT Diaz I think Diaz would have a big reach advantage if I'm not mistaken.
nick diaz- 74.0 in
gsp- 76.0 in
im afraid you (or wikipedia) are mistaken
because GSP's Wrestling would nulify Diaz's skills IMO, and Georges would dominate from start to finish..... its starts on the feet but GSP would take it to the ground and either choke him out..... or Decision him.... End of Story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not quite. Once it goes to the ground GSP could get subbed himself by triangle, gogoplata, armbar, kimura, or RNC. Unlikely-probably. Possible-definitely.
Diaz can out strike GSP. GSP can out wrestler Diaz. Once it gets to the mat, who knows? Diaz has slick subs but could he get them on GSP? Yeah
I'm pretty sure GSP would mess up Diaz in the striking also. Diaz landed way less strikes in the Noons fight, if you watch the ratio chart. He may have been more effective. unanimous decision GSP

That was six years ago
Nick Diaz ground game is awesome... Very long legs.. He could catch GSP with a beautiful submission.. I have it 60/40....GSP has an advantage. Would be an awesome fight.
GSP is cool but his fights are fkn boring, Nick is pretty crafty. Sure rather see this match up than the Kos & GSP humpfest
Diaz isn't a bad fighter, but come on.... I could see GSP gnp it out for TKO, or lay and prey and ground out decision. Maybe even RNC...
No way...
diaz has always had a hard time against wrestlers sean sherk destroyed him sanchez put a beating on him ect ect. diaz is a exciting fighter but is really only a big fish in a very small pond. gsp is a shark and would put a beating on diaz as would most of the top tier ufc ww division
Agreed 100% , Idon't think Nick Diaz is that much better than his brother, and look how Nate Diaz is doing in the UFC
....GSP
Theres only one way to find out, hopefully the MMA world can put fights like these on to make it Great sport. Its better for the fans and fighters.
GSP is just far more well-rounded
GSP much better fighter-Nick c'mon are you kiddig me .LMAO
like Nick ,...but come on really?! Let's get real please!!!
GSP would eat him ALIVE and y'all know it as fact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UFC division is just too high level for him... And not only GSP eat him I think everybody would eat him
There is not one aspect of the game that I see Diaz winning. Georges is physically superior and more well rounded. Georges could out strike him or control him on the ground.
Diaz can frustrate gsp... Diaz is better of his back, with the long limbs
i could see a nice sub.
GSP would only win by Decision, like always, he's not much of a finisher.
No way he stops Diaz, his heart and chin are way to big.
60/40 GSP by Decision
u mad?
Unless Diaz can learn to stuff the takedown in a way that no other GSP opponent in the last few years has been able to do then I don't see Diaz "frustrating" GSP.
what about wrestling, huh? GSP would threw Diaz all over the mat and win a decision. Yeah, I don't think GSP could stop Diaz but Diaz didn't stop Noons either so...
the majority of Diaz lost are against top wrestlers or grapplers.
GSP is the top of the top of wrestler in mma.
because the judges kept screwing him over
from what i seen last night he doesnt, he could if he could keep it standing but against gsp i think no one can stop his takedowns
I remember a year ago when everybody thought Machida was invincible and Shogun had no chance because he lost to forrest griffin. Now those same people are on Shoguns nuts. Do some of you just root for whoever the champion is? I bet alot of you were patriot fans a couple years ago but saint fans now.
Actually I was a GSP fan when he was fighting in Quebec in TKO, along with MArk Homminick, David Loiseau, Patrick Cote, and Ivan Mengivar
I as well sir!!
what's scary good about Diaz and what makes me think he can beat, literally, anyone at 170 is his size and reach and how effectively uses it.
GSP would eat Diaz alive!!!!
I was disappointed, i thought that the boxing that was displayed was really poor, on both counts.
Noons is supposed to be among the best strikers in MMA??!

Just my 2cents.
hahahaahahahahahaahahahahahahahah HELL NO!!!!!!!!
im suprised diaz is champion in his promotion ahahah muther****er couldnt even finish kj noons ahhahaahahaha gsp would ****en muder his ass quickly and i dont even like gsp
Yeaaah, thats what i'm saying.
I dont get why people are hyping up Nick Diaz as the next great thing.
He's not that good, period......
Why don't you ask Lawler if those punches are slaps.
And Daley's takedown defense SUCKS- watch the Masvidal fight. Diaz would sub him in a hurry just like Shields did.
Meh, he'd just take him down and you'd never see anything else, just lke everyone else.
GSP doesn't have to take him down, although i'm sure that he would.
GSP's striking is way better than Diaz. He is crisper, faster, more more accurate, explosive and has better combinations.
He is far more better rounded fighter than Nick Diaz, who is hyped up to be something really special BUT in my opinion is way overrated.
He's young so he might become a superstar in 10yrs but i doubt it....
Wrestling is a part of MMA, and look how Johnn Fitch's face looked after GSP pounded him. Diaz wouldn't stand a chance.....
BJ couldn't submit GSP and hes had more than 1 fight against GSP.
So Diaz is outclassed in every aspect of the game.
If you g&p and land strikes then you are working.
Thats NOT lay&pray;, BUT if you ONLY want to see striking and think its boring when it goes to the ground the i can understand you.
I also prefer a stand-up battle, BUT i appreciate ground skills as well.
And i said before, if a fighter doesn't want to be taken down the he has train TD-defense as a maniac otherwise don't complain about it.
Yea maybe Diaz will be a star when he is 37? This guy has been in the game for real long, hes well rounded (minus wrestling), and his striking style is one of the most effective in MMA. If Diaz wants to fight GSP he has to go to the UFC first. He has to fight guys like Alves, Fitch, and training partner Jake Shields
And he wouldn't win over them either, well maybe over Shields but both Alves and Fitch would destroy Diaz.
Diaz was in the UFC watch karo perisian just beat on him, if people are afraid of diaz "slaps" they easy outstrike him, his punches are all show and only cause visible damge, blood, bruises etc. people basically throw their faces into his punches when they get KOed
Diaz would get layed on my gsp, he would probably outpoint alves, and fitch...... who cares
He's not your GSP
GSP is the most untouchable champion in MMA right now, BY A MILE.
AND, the gap between him and the competetion keeps getting bigger.
I wanna see some catchweight fights, or a permanent move to middleweight in about a year. He has to KO Kos, sub or gnp tko Shields first.
If GSP is so untouchable why cant he gain 15 pounds and dominate the middlewights. Probably because he is not strong enough and his style wouldn't can't help him with that.
No Way GSP can submit Diaz, GSP would win by 5 round decision, pretty much by control, but I could see Diaz submitting him off his back
All the people that voted Yes must be stoners! Kinda like Diaz... But really that dude would not have a chance against GSP!
