Kimbo drops out of Mitrione fight at UFC 113
Posted on March 4, 2010, 05:14 PM by Daniel CassidyWhile speculation mounts as to who James "Lights Out" Toney's first opponent will be, it seems as though Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson looks this evening to be the most likely candidate, as tonight it was announced he has dropped out of his UFC 113 fight with Matt Matrione in Quebec, Canada, on May 8th.
Kimbo's name had been mentioned as Toney's most likely opponent, given it would be a massive pull to any card, as Slice's name attracts so much attention, while Toney's first fight would be a seriously huge pull, and would bring so much more media attention to MMA from the boxing community. Juanito Ibarra, Toney's MMA coach, has spoken non stop about wanting to Toney vs Kimbo. Many expect an announcement regarding this match up to come in the next few days.
Currently, it remains only speculation, but it is official that Slice has pulled out of said UFC 113 bout but Slice is such a huge bout, and it's a given the entire boxing community will have their eyes on a fight between him and Toney. Kimbo's MMA record currently stands at 4-1, and trains at American Top Team, while Toney holds a Pro Boxing record of 72-6-3-2.

I think it would be in Toney's best interest to choose a weight class other than heavyweight. Being such an accomplished boxer he can box with anyone, but a guy who started fighting at 160lbs being able to hold his own against a heavyweight on the ground is a little different.

put it on the july 3rd card with lesnar v (mir/carwin/cain) and throw another title fight on that card or 2 with another contenders match (like sanchez v koscheck since sanchez went back to 170) would def top lesnars last card
I'm Glad he did that i mean meathead isnt really much of a challange for Kimbo. He needs to fight real fighters which he hasnt done yet in his mma carreer. Abbot and Mercer might be veterans in this sport but they were not much for Kimbo. Kimbo might have a tough time beating this guy but if he wins with flying colors... he might be in the title picture soon

Title picture? He lost in the Ultimate fighter and he beat Houston Alexander...........He's a long ways away from a title shot, which he will never get because he isn't good enough to beat the top contenders to get him there.

Kimbo vs Toney would be a terrible move for the UFC. Anyone who thinks Kimbo has the hands to stand up with James Toney is fooling themselves and unless he's developed a ground game that he's willing to use offensively Kimbo will get KTFO'd which will look pretty bad on the resume of one of the UFC's biggest money makers

I'm sure Toney is the reason. Kimbo vs Toney will be a huge draw, the UFC probably doesn't want to risk Kimbo losing to an unknown (he probably would lose), before they can do the Toney fight. If Kimbo needed an excuse it could be anything "pinched nerve in my back", anything.
