UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos, who will face Alistair Overeem in his first title defense, discusses his opponent, as well as his lingering knee injury. Dos Santos is complimentary of Overeem's recent performance against Brock Lesnar, but says it's he and the Dutchman now, and someone is getting knocked-out. Photo: Scott Hirano

Junior dos Santos

"I was there, that fight (Overeem vs. Lesnar) was really good. I think Alistair Overeem came with a good strategy for the fight, and he won. I think he deserved that. But, now it's between me and him, both strikers, so it's going to be a good fight for the MMA fans, and I think somebody is going to get knocked out."

Junior Is the most likable HW champ ever in the UFC. I didnt like Cain, he was too serious. Junior is a nice and funny guy. he is more entertaining

Can go either way...Overeem should do his homework and avoid the open guard we saw repeatedly in his k-1 fights, b/c he'll be knocked out silly by the fast and heavy-handed Santos. On the other hand, JDS has to worry about the Reem's lethal knees and strikes...SPEED VS STRENGTH... Can't bet on anyone of them...

Pretty sure he meant his attitude outside the ring. I was thinking the same thing while he was being interviewed. He seems like a very genuine guy. He's enthusiastic and exited about his upcoming fights as well as other fighters. In the ring he is all business though. Cain just doesn't seem to handle the lime light as well.

Either have the power to end the other's night early. Really looking forward to this fight. Overeem is a beast but I underestimated Junior in the Velasquez fight, not doing that this time.

I kind of agree, I think JDS will be the quicker fighter and more aggressive but the reem is so strong I think he takes it.

I think this is a strong matchup, but I am going with JR. He stays calm in battle, keeps his chin tucked, and is very precise in his striking. His dismantling of Carwin was an outstanding display.

Alistar earned some clout by defeating Brock so handily, but the roadmap for a strong striker agianst Brock is prety clear. Let's see how he does with Dos Santos to see how he fares in the rankings.

I think AO is sloppy. His chin was way up and he doesn't feel too smart when fighting. I pray for good odds, then i will put up the big money for JDS :)

The winner should be the one who has the best ground game. None of them will outstrike the other in my opinion. I think the Reem could have the advantage in the standup because he has kick and knees and tremendous experience as well as a ever-evolving ground game.

I dont think there ground games will matter much, as they both will keep the fight standing.

Lets not forget AO was knocked out by LHW's in chuck liddell and shogun. All the muscle in the world won't change his chin. What do you think will happen when JDS lands clean. Goodnight.

Those aren't exactly two guys that you need to be ashamed of being stopped by thou, also he wasn't really knocked out it was more of a submission to strikes rather then ko's. JDS can knock Overeem out for sure but it won't be as easy as you'd like to think.

"Lets not forget" that was a long time and a much smaller neck ago. It has absolutely nothing to do with today.

Speed vs Strength, I'd put my money on JDS but there are so many ways that Overeem could win that fight.

Everyone keeps saying "speed vs strength" but it seems like a silly thing to say. Overeem is plenty fast he just tends to pick his shots and put together less rapid fire combos. At the same time JDS is also plenty strong. This is skill vs skill and I agree with you, Overeem has more ways of winning and is the more skilled fighter. JDS has awesome hands but Overeem has awesome everything.

I hate when people go to Overeem's PRIDE defeats from years ago to discredit him. They say it like 'a fighter isn't allowed to improve in mma', which is retarded

Not only that but he was physically very different as well. With his new neck he is going to be a lot harder to rock. He beat Badr Hari for christ's sake! JDS is in trouble.

You can improve MMA skills and ability, but it is very hard to improve your ability to take a strike to the head, Overeem is fighting a stand up fighter with 5 knockouts in 8 fights in UFC. Of course people are going to question his chin.

that may be true, but you can improve in protecting and avoiding getting hit and how to compose and control yourself if you get rocked. Overeem's very experienced and knows what to do if there's the chance he gets caught.

I hope this one goes a few rounds. It's been a while since we have seen an action packed HW war between two bad asses in the cage! This one has the potential to be a legendary fight.

I dont think JDS or AO have great chins and both have very heavy hands, should make for a quick fight. I hope that Overeem can test JDS like no one else in UFC has been able to do. This is Junor Dos Antos chance to prove his striking skills against a world class striker. This is also Overeems chance to prove himself as a true MMA fighter on the biggest stage. I dont listen to hype and the win against lesnar did not impress me that much. A prediction now... I have no ****ing clue but it should be a great fight.
