Josh Koscheck unofficially accepts the fight with Matt Hughes at UFC 135

Speaking via his Twitter account, former UFC Welterweight title challenger Josh "Kos" Koscheck revealed about accepting the fight with Matt Hughes in co-main event attraction of this month's UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage. Here's the word:

"Oh ya 19 days then or something like that!!!! Either way it looks like I am in to fight matt Hugh if he takes it????"

Josh Koscheck also related to Matt Hughes in his interview with USAToday:

"He wants big-name fighters. He's getting near the end of his career. I think he'll take the fight because it's good for the sport and good for the UFC. I'm a big-name fighter, so he can take that and run with it. I put it out there. I told UFC I'd do it, and if Matt Hughes is man enough, he'll step up and do it. I think he'll do it. I think he'll take the fight."

Koscheck, 15-5 in Mixed Martial Arts, has been out of action since getting beat-up for five rounds by Georges St. Pierre in the main event of UFC 124 in Montreal. Despite sharing a lot of common opponents in their Octagon run (I counted at least 3), Josh Koscheck and Matt Hughes never faced each other inside the cage. Looks like a healthy fight for the UFC Welterweight division.

UFC 135 will take pace on September 24, at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.

i think this is a better fight than sanchez-hughes. and it gives matt more to win, kos is coming off a title shot where sanchez was a few wins away from a title shot. obviously im rooting for kos regardless what crap he talks. go kos!

Sanchez was few wins from a title shot?

do you realize that Sanchez last win at WW was Paulo Thiago ( a decent win) but before that the other win at WW was Luigui Fiovaranti in 2008?

The Martin Kampmann decison was BS , Diego Sanchez was completely beat up, the Hitman broke his hand from hitting Sanchez so much in the face .

anyways Koscheck is a much higher ranked fighter and a big step up from Sanchez , Hughes is pretty much done.

A few wins could mean 3 or more. Regardless of whether it was a bad decision, Diego fought Kampmann and after 3 wins, (All being big names of the WW division) cant really deny him the title shot.

I dont believe Sanchez would get to contention though.

Kos is the bigger fight for hughes, but unfortunately for Hughes, I cant see him winning this at all. Hughes might choose to fight someone else that he can see himself beating

haha yea man i do realize that, thats why i said he was a few wins away from a title shot. lets not deny it, if he wouldve beaten hughes he wouldve been like 2 or 3 fights away from gsp. my point was to establish that kos was closer to a title shot than sanchez, he was just no. 1 contender. entendez vous? haha

I think Hughes has the better stand up but Kos has most likely the better wrestling. Its going to be one hell of an interesting fight, harder than the Sanchez fight but I think Hughes might still take it.

This is a really interesting fight to me but only really because it'll show us how much GSP hurt Koscheck. JK as apparently suffering recurring night terrors, headaches, loss of sight ect. for months after the fight and really didn't sound his usual self for a while. Even now he's been quiet, I hope he's back to form but i have a sneaking suspicion that the GSP fight may have left him still a bit sluggish and tender

@KeithFarrell - i don't know what makes you think Hughes has better stand up than Koscheck!!!???

Anyway, as much as Hughes is/was known for his great wrestling in as much as that his usual M.O. was to take people down and inflict GnP i think his wrestling is way out matched here, he wont be able to take Kos down imo and striking has never been his strong point so i dont see how he can win this. As well as the fact that his career is coming to it's end, which has reflected in his last few fights. Kos will either take HIM down and GnP out the win or he will catch him with the only punch he knows (i think) the overhand right and knock him out. I think Hughes would have had a better chance against Diego to be honest....
