Josh Koscheck eyes interim title shot, hopes Georges St. Pierre never recovers

Former Welterweight title challenger, Josh Koscheck, who will face Mike Pierce this Saturday night at UFC 143, discusses his opponent, as well as the current 170-pound title mix. Koscheck admits that there is no real animosity between himself and division champion Georges St. Pierre, but says that he hopes the Canadian "never comes back" from his ACL surgery.

Josh Koscheck

"I'm interested in the outcome of the Condit-Diaz fight this Saturday night. Hopefully, Georges St. Pierre is out for more than 10-months, and they can make that interim title holder fight twice. I'm absolutely (rooting against GSP's recovery), hopefully he never comes back. Basically, ACL surgery can take a lot out of you. They say that you really, truly don't recover after those. I've had friends that have had those and they say they're not the same. So, hopefully it equals out the playing field and we can get another crack at Georges."

Self-contradictory Kos stated in a different interview that no one would be interested in a 3rd fight with GSP and that this would only happen if there's a new champ. Now, seems he's hunting for the title, again.

Hoping just GSP never comes back is VERY MEAN...

Maybe he's mean or maybe he is just admitting what we already know, he'll never get that belt if he has to fight GSP for it.

He's trolling. Trying to get GSP to be angy at him and want a fight with him like Diaz.

Coward. it's not like he blasts you to the moon when he fights you, he's just flatout better buddy...so man up and TRAIN.

I have no interest in this guy fighting anyone really...he's really really annoying but not at all entertaining to watch even if he is losing.

LOL.... I agree that this guy is lucky to fight KOS and was like how did this guy get this fight but found out that Condit was supposed to fight Kos and then got the fight with Diaz, talk about dodging a bullet could you imagine that fight Condit would of crushed Kos and he would of went back toward the bottom of the ladder.. and since all the contenders are set to fight or just couldnt take the fight he gets this guy who is the best of the un-ranked or best up and coming fighter and has had some great fight,,.. and to but to be honest it is fights like this that we

find new prodigy's.., guys who step up and take an opportunity to fight

well known guys and Koscheck is the perfect guy for this to LEAP FROG

and fight name fighters....... Josh was able to save face on his fight with Hughs but is still rusty came off a major injury and hasnt been tested since.. but KOS was fighting the #3 guy and the fight was changed so if this guy comes out and dominates for first 3 mins and hen finishes him he will automatically be a known fighter

And sorry to say how he hopes he never comes back just shows or at least sounds to be scared to fight him again,.. but to be dominated and take a beating and have to have your face remade would kinda fuk with your head and if you had to fight again.... WOW its more of a huge fight for Condit

not him cause he can beat Carlos no problem...??WHAT?? Carlos ranked

like #3 and Josh #6---#7 yeah regardless if you could win you need that fight dumbass he keeps talking like Diaz look you had your shot lost and have to make you way back now if it would of been close maybe one fight then top 1 or 2 contender but didnt happen that way "Sanchez on a win streak no.... so why would he fight" cause he is ranked higher than you right now ....is how that works.. ""I win this fight im No1 contender""

WHAT you just said didnt know who he was had to look him up ....YOU LOST TO GSP,punches to head scrambled you egg a bit.. you have to fight contenders again to become one Hughs and this guy are not...

Yeah, he wants to "level the playing field" which translated means I can never work my way up to Georges level but I'll fight him if he's damaged good.

Talking smack is funny. Talking like an azzhole is the lowest form of poor sportsmanship.

the reason he doesn't want gsp to return is because he knows damn well as long as georges is around he'll never get another shot at the belt.

Wow, I almost forgot how much of a D*CK Kos is.....

He does not want GSP to get better because he knows he cannot possibly beat him. He also can't beat Condit or Diaz, so I guess if he gets past Pierce he's pretty much screwed. And he deserves it.

How's he gonna say something like hopefully GSP never returns and then go on to say that George is a good, respectable guy. Yet you don't want this good, respectable guy to ever heal properly and maintain his chosen career? Dick

Interim title? He's dreaming. Koscheck had his chances to win the belt and I don't see him getting another.

I'm hoping Pierce punches Kos a one way ticket to gatekeeperville.

Just thinking about it, its kind of obvious what Kos is doing. GSP wants Diaz because Diaz disrespected GSP. Kos saw that and is trying to get GSP to want Koscheck next. Cheap

Kos is the guy I love to hate! He is one of the best at getting under peoples skin. I was in his corner twice. And both times, GSP kicked his but from one side of the cage to the other! If I was him, I'd be hoping that GSP never recovers from his injuries as well.

In all sports there always is a role for the bad guy or the heel. Josh Koscheck and Chael Sonnen have effectively figured out a way to get just as much pub by acting like tools. I do however think that both men understand the role they choose to play and do have much more respect for their opponents and the sport. The issue I have is that both men could easily be embraced by the fans based on the god given talent they possess. Kos was extremely humble in defeat and apologized for his behavior needed to promote the fight with GSP.

In his heart he knows he was schooled by St-Pierre and nothing would change in a rematch. I think his comments were more about realizing his title hopes for the future are extremely thin. He has stepped up and saved shows on short notice and is always a gamer whenever Dana or a UFC card needs him. I actually feel bad for the guy. Even with an impressive win, he is still behind Diaz, Condit, Ellenberger and maybe Jake shields. Baring multiple catostrophic injuries, I do not see another title shot for Kos anytime soon.
