Jose Aldo: If Frankie Edgar won't come to 145, I'm going to move to Lightweight

"Edgar thinks he won against Henderson, so he really had to stay in his division and get the rematch. If he comes to Featherweight, we’ll fight. Many people want to see it. Having Edgar, a former Lightweight champion, would be amazing for the Featherweight division. But, if he doesn’t come down [to 145 pounds], in the future, I’m going to have to move to Lightweight." - For more from Jose Aldo, visit Sherdog.com

If Frankie Edgar won't come to Jose Aldo, Jose Aldo will go to Frankie Edgar.

That's according to the Featherweight Champion himself, who says that, though he understands why Edgar remained steadfast in his quest for a rematch with Ben Henderson, he still wants a crack at "The Answer."

After losing the Lightweight belt at UFC 144, Edgar was offered an instant shot a Aldo's title should he make the drop to 145. The former champ declined, however, insisting that the close nature of his fight with Henderson warranted an instant rematch, which he was later granted. With Edgar now set to meet Henderson again this Summer, and Aldo likely to face the Dustin Poirier vs. Chan Sung Jung winner, it's a showdown that will have to wait. But, what do you think LowKick'ers? Is a date with Edgar worth making the move to 155, or should Aldo sit tight and wait for "The Answer" to come to him?

I think the quote is being taken out of context. He'll be moving to 155 out of necessity, not for the sole purpose of fighting Frankie. The weight cut to 145 is difficult for Jose, in a year or two he'll have no choice but to go to 155.

Yes and no, if he continues to put on muscle ya but his frame is fine for 145, it's just how he chooses to workout/lift weights that he's been adding muscle the past year or two. If the weight cut is getting hard he could stop or even shed some muscle anytime he wanted.

Aldo's a monster, Edgars got heart but unless he brings a shotgun in the cage, Aldo's got this! It's got to see a champ like Aldo that isn't afraid of a bigger weight class

If Aldo would move up, he would get destroyed by Edgar

I don't know about him getting "destroyed" but I do think that Edgar wins that fight.

Depends if Frankie can stop the leg kicks. If Aldo gets 6-7 good leg kicks off, Frankie's energizer bunny movement will slow way the hell down.

Edgar does not want anything to do with Aldo, or he would be lined up already to fight for the belt. If he wants a belt so bad, why did he choose to deny the fans their desire to see an Aldo/Edgar bout? He does not want to lose to Aldo. He already lost to Henderson and whoever told Frankie he won that fight, he is not thinking clearly (Edgar).

not sure if that would be a wise move, Aldo moved to LW once before.....that turned out to be the only loss on his record.

I think Aldo wants this fight for two reasons...

    1. Edgar is a bigger name than anyone he can fight at 145.

    2. He's confident he can beat him.

I agree with what Dray12 said I dont think its that he wants Edgar to fight him its just Edgar is the biggest name out there that had been mentioned to fight him, I think this statement is more about Aldo saying that there's not much more he can do at 145 inless Edgar or someone like Pettis dropped to featherweight. So if that never happens then he'll have to make the move to 155.

Im not saying it isn't but Aldo might feel that way, I mean from Aldo's point of view Hioki might be the only 145 left for him he already has beat Mendez who some say is the number two guy at 145 and Hioki is deff atleast number 3 right now if not number 2. I think Aldo still has to beat 2 or 3 more guys like Hioki, Poirier/Jung Winner and maybe Mendez again or Koch (if Koch can get some more wins) to say he's "cleaned out" the division but you can make a case that there isn't much for him at 145 at the moment.

that aboy Aldo. Whys everyone on Frankie to move down when it could easily happen this way to. Henderson, Aldo, Pettis, Edgar. any of those guys fight each other and it should be great entertainment.

This fight would be killer but I couldn't see Aldo losing, unless Frankie managed to wear him down over 5 rounds

Yeah he should do that after he defends his belt one more time then he pretty much cleaned out his division.

Renan Barao, Dustin P, Zombie, Koch, and a few others, and a few others could still challenge him.

Now Aldo is a REAL fighter. Edgar is kind of dodging things here, and was way too comfortable holding that LW belt.

If Edgar had any balls at all he would have dropped weight and went right after Aldo, now Aldo will have to come get him instead, after he loses to Bendo again.
