Jon Jones: Winning the title is my dream, and beating Brandon Vera is a part of it

Fast-rising UFC Superstar Jon "Bones" Jones stated in an interview to MMAWeekly.com that the fans have seen only 20% of his striking abilities, promising a very entertaining fight against the Muay Thai specialist Brandon Vera, on March 21st. Jon Jones admitted that fighting a talented Wrestlers Matt Hamill and Jake O'Brien in his last two fights prevented him from displaying his full striking talents. He expects a much different fight against Vera:

“My last two opponents I fought, Jake O’Brien and Matt Hamill, were both guys who I had to stay aware of their double-leg takedown so it didn’t really allow me to unleash the type of striking that I wanted to. I really have a lot of pride in my stand-up. It’s a lot better than you see in the actual Octagon. You’ve seen about maybe 20 percent of the things that I have in my head and things that I’ve been training.”

Jon Jones lost his last fight to Matt Hamill via a disqualification, but it looks like the disappointing loss did not damage Jones' long-terms plans of becoming a UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Rochester, New York native is not underestimating the abilities of Brandon Vera, revealing that he is excited to face "The Truth":

“He’s a tough fighter and he has a really big following. It’s just going to be great for my career in so many different ways. Ultimately, my goal is to make it towards the top and I’ve wanted to get that fight with Brandon Vera. The belt is my dream, so I know beating him is just part of it.”

One of Jon Jones' biggest advantages against Brandon Vera could be the enormous 7-inch reach advantage, that could make the difference in a striking war between the two. Jones is currently training in Greg Jackson's TriStar Gym, alongside Georges St. Pierre, Rashad Evans and Nathan Marquardt.

Ya same, he has too much potential he is going to be a champion. As for this fight i like both guys, i want both of them to do well, but i think Jones mite win cause of his unpredictable style.

Training with Georges St. Pierre, Rashad Evans and Nathan Marquardt definitly is gonna play a big role in his development and title shot which will hopefully come soon.

Matt would probably not argue that he won that fight. They had to practically carry him out, he looked like he got in a horrible car accident on the freeway.

Nobody manhandles Matt like that, as Vera wouldn't. Jones by KO.

Matt Hamill is a very good wrsetle. Bones took him to the ground and manhandled his ass. Vera is still good on the ground though. I think it'll come down to who is better standing up. Which is Bones..

i can see Jones fighting machoda or shogun by the end of the year or starting 2011!

after he beat Vera he should get his last step to the title maybe i was going to say rashad but they train together! so maybe rampage after rampage beats rashad , or the loser of machida vs shogun!

And of course lay-and-pray is just the stupid way to describe physical domination and control.
