Jones is ready to strike with Vera
Posted on March 16, 2010, 08:15 AM by Daniel CassidyAhead of this Sunday's fight between himself and Brandon Vera, Jon "Bones" Jones spoke out about Vera:
“I definitely feel ready to fight Brandon Vera. I wouldn’t take a fight I thought I would lose. Title shot isn’t even what I’m thinking about. Brandon Vera is the title shot. I’m not looking past him. He’s in the way of my ultimate dream—the light heavyweight title.”
“I can’t control the outcome, but I can control my effort. I predict that I will put out an amazing effort. I am definitely going to put out some amazing techniques. I attacked Matt Hamill at his strength – wrestling. What I learned from the fight is to not doubt my own abilities. I learned to not give people credit for their strengths. Brandon Vera is supposed to be such a great Muay Thai striker? I’m going to let him prove that he is.”
“I train very hard. I train for the worst but hope for the best. You have to be crazy enough to embrace the risk. I know that if I don’t try to do it to him, he’s going to try and do it to me.”
Regarding his only "loss", a DQ to Matt Hamill, Jones also added:
“I try not to think about it that way. I would never intentionally try to hurt someone – I mean to try to give them a career-ending injury. It’s what we signed up for. One day, I may be in a situation like that – I could get messed up pretty good, but I am prepared for that".
While it's obvious neither fighter will be guaranteed a title shot following this fight, a win this weekend would look great on the winners records.

this will be a good fight i hope,i want vera to win.i dont agree with jones unorthodox style he leaves himself open alot and vera has got more reach then jones pass opponents even tho jones has 7" on vera.i want to see vera use his bjj in this fight, and not get tagged by by some crazy shots, and vera needs to destory his body get jones to to drop the hands to defend then go high...how do u see the fight going down?
I imagine it's so hard to try and hit this guy, he's so tall and has a huge reach.
In his past fights, minus the short Hamill fight his striking defense wasn't that good, but he never really got hit hard anyhow
I've noticed that about Jones to, when he throws those wild entertaining strikes he leaves himself open alot and his striking defense is usually just him backing with his arms out to try and keep them 84.5 inches away... I'd like to see more head movement from him... he's definately a talented BEAST... I'm dying for this fight love both guys But I'm Betting on Jon Jones
