Jon Olav Einemo vs. Dave Herman, Joey Beltran vs. Aaron Rosa set for UFC 131
Posted on May 13, 2011, 07:43 PM by Joey SantosusPromotional newcomer Jon Olav Einemo will remain a part of the UFC 131 line-up after all, but will now face fellow debutant Dave Herman.
Einemo was left without an opponent Thursday, when it was announced that Shane Carwin had been promoted to the main event slot to face Junior dos Santos in place of Brock Lesnar. However, the UFC has confirmed that Herman, who was originally set to meet Joey Beltran on the same card, will step in against Einemo, while Beltran will instead welcome Strikeforce veteran Aaron Rosa to the Octagon.
Einemo (6-1), signed on with the promotion in March. Though none of the major MMA databases have record of the bout, reports indicate that the 35-year-old Norwegian last competed in June of 2010, defeating Kresimir Bogdanovic in Bosnia. Prior to the victory, Einemo had been inactive since a 2006 submission win over James Thompson, which followed his lone professional defeat against Fabricio Werdum at PRIDE 31. Herman (20-2), on the other hand, saw action this past Decemeber, when he scored a unanimous decision win over Yoshihiro Nakao. "Pee Wee" has won five of his last six outings, competing for Bellator, Shark Fights, and Sengoku.
Beltran (12-5), meanwhile, has yielded mixed results since debuting with the promotion last year. After opening with consecutive victories over Rolles Gracie and Tim Hague, "The Mexicutioner" has since dropped back-to-back decisions against Matt Mitrione and Pat Barry. He'll look to avoid the dreaded three-fight losing streak when he meets Rosa (16-3), who has been victorious in his last four efforts, most recently submitting TUF 10 alum Abe Wagner at Titan Fighting Championships 17.
UFC 131 is set to take place June 11th from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Heavyweight clash between Dos Santos and Carwin will headline the stacked card, while Mac Danzig takes on WEC stand-out Donald Cerrone and BJJ specialist Demian Maia meets Mark Munoz.
