Jon Jones says he will defeat Rashad Evans in honor of Jackson's MMA
Posted on March 16, 2012, 06:22 PM by Joey SantosusReigning Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones, who will put his title on the line against Rashad Evans at UFC 145, discusses his opponent, as well as the grudge that has formed between them. Jones expects that once the fight gets underway, it will be like any other, but admits that he feels he has to defend the honor of Jackson's MMA.
Jon Jones
"I kind of feel like I'm defending the honor of this team. Rashad has been badmouthing this team and really calling our team cliche and commercial and just really bad mouthing Greg and our program's loyalty and things like that. I think he kind of has it all twisted in his own head - feeling as if people betrayed him. Really, this is a family here and it's the same program that it's always been. Yeah, he's been here longer than me, but he doesn't realize how much of a family this team still is. ... I'm here just to defend this family and defend everything he's ever said about us. I feel like me beating him solidifies that this is a program that's going to live without him."

Jon Jones is great to watch in the octagon, but damn when he talks he annoys me lol. I wanna like him because he's gonna be around for a long time.
Quick a Jones post everyone vote poor
doesn't he just seem like a teachers pet?
yeah.....its like he says what he thinks everyone wants to hear something
shady and all that talk about Silva and how GREAT he is sounds like he is
a lil scared to fight him..., but he seems to try hard to be that great guy from
how he talks and acts and then you have GSP.....just not right
I really like Rashad and Jones but to be honest Rashad has talked a lot of crap about Jacksons unfairly and from what I see that camp is the best in the world right now.
They have done an amazing job with GSP, Jones, Condit, Guida, Stann, Cerrone, Carwin, Watson and many others.
Is it possible it was Rashad who needed the change and not Jacksons? Look how incredibly fast Jones has improved at the camp, he seems to be evolving great.
Bones is only 24yrs old...!!!
Give him a freakin break...I bet most people dont like you if your his age. He in my opinion needs constant mentoring because he is so young...
fortunately he is a great fighter and everyone is going to have to get comfortable watching and liking him. He is a talented young man. Unfortunately he is going to beat the crap out of Rashad. I think he is going to submit him as most of all his fights. Rashad has NO real threats against Jones. Of course anything is possible with lucky wild punched but...Jon will probably be more cautious in this fight. I hope he sends Rashad to the hospital. Rshad tlks alot of crap and he doesnt back it up the way he says he is....
You can say all the most humble and considerate things in the world, and it won't matter if people already think you're anything but. People are still butthurt about the "Champion 2011" thing, which wasn't Jones being arrogant at all. I say that because my mother was encouraged to do the EXACT SAME THING with her self help tapes when she was selling Mary Kay cosmetics. Basically, acting as if you already have a trait is one of the best ways to achieve it. So I got to hear her constantly refer to herself as a "director" and such. It's just a confidence builder. Nothing more, nothing less, and no different than Diego Sanchez walking out to the cage, stopping every 15 steps to scream "YEEEEESSSSS!!!!"
if one man has a chance it's rashad (even if we said it for rampage and for mashida before, and after this fight we might say that for hendo too)
Hendo has no chance. He's a middleweight who's too old to cut down anymore and has only one weapon that's a serious threat to Bones, and its chance of connecting given their size difference is fairly slim. Meanwhile, Jones is a natural heavyweight who cuts down to Light Heavy, dominates everyone physically, and has many, many ways to beat Hendo. This is Jones' fight to lose.
I think the only people that might be able to beat Jones will be Evans or Machida. They're the only ones well rounded and physically dominant enough to do so, and even they're going to need to have a pretty good night to do it.
basically a perfect summary for the Jones Hendo fight
Jones sure likes to put pressure on himself, now he is fighting for the honor of his entire team, I predict it will be for all of USA next time.
and after usa fot the humanity maybe?
Say the little inferior Swedish pprick
who does this ****en asshole think he is ? for the honour of the team !! mother****er rashad was on that team years before you and mr 2 face greg jackson said he wouldnt coach either of you if ye had to fight which is bullshit on one hand theres u a guy in the gym for a year and then theres rashad who been there way way longer and greg still refused to train him it shud of been a simple choice but no Mr mma monopoly jackson more or less made rashad leave i mean who wud want to stay in that enviroment and then and then the best of it now he WILL train u for the fight ha ha jacksons mma and jones are both ****en assholes. im fed up listening to thier bullshit all jones does is say what the fans want to hear and thats whats so fake at least rashad says whats on his mind and whats real same goes for rampage jones dont keep it real
Come on, do you really believe that? All fighters at that level are there to prove that they're the best. Rashad was #1 contender and got injured. Is the UFC supposed to just roll over and put everything on hold for him? No, they offer the shot to someone else. At the time, who was there to offer the shot to? Shogun was champ already, Machida had just lost, Rashad was injured, Rampage wasn't doing too great... it was basically between Jones and Bader, who had beaten almost anyone else who had been noteworthy on their way to the top. Since they were fighting anyway when Rashad got injured, they made it a #1 Contender fight.
When Jones won, what was he supposed to tell them?
Rogan: Rashad Evans is injured. The UFC would like to offer you the #1 Contender spot!
Jones: I'm at a great point in my career to take the shot, but I'll have to pass. Rashad's my teammate and all, so we can't fight each other. I realize I'm a member of the winningest MMA team on the planet, so I might be waiting for a very long time for this opportunity to come again. Maybe when I'm in my 30's and everyone I know and care about in MMA has retired I'll take the opportunity then. In the meantime, I'll be content with being #2 and a roadblock to the careers of everyone else in the division. That's working pretty good for Jon Fitch, right?
Rogan: ...are you f'in retarded?
And when it came right down to it, Evans, who had been mortally offended that Jones would choose to advance his career without his express written consent submitted in triplicate, decided to directly challenge Jones when their positions were reversed. What's the matter Rashad? Not content with waiting for years on end while your friend and teammate sits on the throne of your division? Hypocrisy. Jones didn't do anything wrong, and Rashad needs to grow the hell up.
regardless of what he says only a fool would bet on Rashad winning this one. He was lucky he ever had the belt much like Forrest.
LOL I had to weak you for that. Rashad has always had issues closing the distance and for sure that will be his downfall against Jones. Lucky to win the belt REALLY. LOL Where's the luck in taking somone down and pounding them out to a tko win. Where's the luck in exploiting Rampges weakness and using a high volume leg kick game like Forrest did to win the belt.
Absolutely love jones fighting ability. Not sure he's all there mentally tho haha when he gives these types of interviews he's always got this far away glazed over look in his eyes
