Shogun has acknowledged himself that Jones is a good kickboxer and that at their weight division, anyone can go down with a well placed shot. And personally, I think Rua will be harder to hold down than anyone Jones has faced thus far.
I will say this now, Jones isn't going to stand in the pocket and bang with Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua, and if he's stupid enough to, he'll be hittin' the showers early with a headache, still trying to figure out what happened.
Jones will be looking up at the bright lights of the arena, in coocoo land, not knowing what just hit him. Rua will provide young Jonny here the reality check he so desperately needs.
Has anyone else noticed that all Shoguns knockouts look sloppy and like he just throws a wild punch? I truly don't believe his standup is as good as what people think, but his power behind his strikes are definetly legit.
wild punches? sloppy?!?!?!?! i wish i could weak ur comment 100 times. the thing that makes his striking so good is his timing, did u see his last fight?! if u see that as 'sloppy', then u are a complete noob
Shogun's striking is ELITE my friend... and there's no doubt that he's a more technical and experienced striker than Bones... BUT... Bones is Unorthodox, he'll throw shit Shogun "might not" have an answer for. That combined with his superior wrestling + reach is a major disadvantage for Shogun. I don't think Shogun will have enough time to get Bones timing down. That's why my money is on Bones.
Hes good, but my thoughts exactly, shogun is not a mediocre opponent like everyone else hes fought, hes not only skipping the top 10 of the division hes skipping it to the best of the best. Hes good but hes not that good, shogun via tko
I wonder if RUA had this amount of doubters when he took the Belt at 23. I'm not gonna sit here and say Bones is gonna flat out when this fight because at the end of the day a fight is a fight and anything can happen at any given moment. What I will say is stop doubting this guy do to experience. Bones is an intelligent and strategic fighter which makes up for a lot of the experience he lacks at the moment. He's part of a new breed of fighters that are totally different from Pride legends such as Shogun, rampage, liddle, etc. He comes from a great camp that has installed a lot of confidence in him and his abilities, which is great for him. I can't wait to see what the outcome of this fight is and how mad the haters will be if he does indeed pull this off.
If you remember correctly, Rua had far more doubters than this when he went against Machida the first time. It was pretty crazy how many people didnt even know who Rua was. Then all of a sudden everyone acts like they were his biggest fan ever.
I became a Jones fan because he seemed very respectful and humble not to mention one of MMA's most exciting and unpredictable fighters.
However, I'm not crazy about his recent comments saying that he feels that he is "already a champion" and "feels like he has already won the fight." (Something he said leading up to this fight AND the Bader fight) A fighter has to have his confidence; I get that, but there is a fine line between confident and obnoxiously arrogant, and Jones is flirting with it.
Its just a way for him to put his standards and goals high. It does not mean that he's looking "past" Shogun or disrespects him as a martial artist but Shogun is no god. He's a man like any other man and bleeds just like them. Jones is out for his blood.
You can't act like a champion to become a champion. In your mind you already are the champion, you're just "picking up" the Belt. It's a mindstate and it's a powerful thing as i'm sure he'll showcase this week.
I'm a Shogun fan myself but Bones is to much for them. Anyone who disagree's, put your money where your mouth is at !!!! I got 10k on Bones already and i'll be picking up a big fat check this week!!
Some things are probably going to happen that have not happened to Jones before.
He is going to face a guy who has faster hands than him.
He is going to face a guy who is not going to be intimidated or confused by his size, length or athleticism.
He is going to actually get hit for the first time. Shogun will eventually find his timing and put his combinations together.
I'm not saying that Jones can't win, but Shogun is tougher, more skilled, and with the exception of Matyushenko, more experienced than anyone he has faced. This is by far the toughest fight of his career. If he thinks Shogun can't handle him, he has another think coming. He is not just going to walk through Shogun, and he better prepare for a multiple round war if he wants any chance of winning. I don't hear any of that in his interviews so far.
Best asset of Jones is imposing his will on his opponents. He can smother you with elbows, flying knees and turning back kicks. Making you lose in your confidence from fighting him. He has this "nothing to lose" attitude since he is young and relentless.
You guys are crazy,i dont really care for Jones but this is a bad match up for shogun.I hope he can overcome the newcomer but i wont be suprised if he loses the belt to JBJ.
Im much more interested in seeing shogun stick around as champ though, him vs rampage or thiago,i can see JBJ vs rashad in a title shot fight
Both of fighter are talented and well rounded chance for them is 50/50 % to win and thus Mauricio "Shogun" Rua the current champion more skillset and great gameplan experiences with another level of fighter and the bad side is Shogun due to injured and ring rust and Jon " Bones " Jones is a young fresh talented fighter in his prime with a great self motivation and size advantage .imo
Gee, I remember Quinton Jackson TKOing the unstoppable Chuck Liddell in the first round...for the second time in a row. Then we have, of course, Anderson Silva cleaning out all of the Middleweight division. Next, Mauricio Rua knocking out the untouchable Lyoto Machida during the 'Machida Era'. Minotauro Nogueira was only one win away from another title shot - did I mention he dominated Captain America?
What about Alistair Overeem? The most feared Heavyweight on the planet. Fabricio Werdum? Fedor Emelianenko...does a decade and universal respect count for anything? Wanderlei Silva?

Im starting to dislike jones. He's not the modest guy anymore
He's not wrong either.
Or Jones is better than you thought.
exactly
Already making "why" excuses if Shogun loses.....
your a ****ing C*N*T
"Different Animal"? Shogun is a human being
It's a figure of speech that the less educated like you obviously do not understand.
Your a ****ing C*N*T
Whoever wins I;m glad I get to watch Shogun fight again. You alway have to wait an eternity to watch his fights.
you can strike with shogun? thats funny....
maybe jones could win but he definately cant strike with rua. just like rua cant wrestle with jones.

Sloppy?... really?.... smh !!

10k u mean 10 $ i hope lol I truly dont know who will win for sure, they both have strong chances.
hope you more in your bank account, I can't see how you do when your that stupid
I'm just as confident as Bones... I don't act like i have the money, I already have it and my goal is to double it. So i'm taking it :-D
Jones gunna get tko'd :)

This is just standard fight hype put out by the UFC.

Shogun is the last man standing on the pride hype train.
Really? PRIDE hype train?

Hype train...right [sarcasm].
