Jon Jones: Someone tell Chael Sonnen he knows where I'll be waitingPosted on December 25, 2011, 10:27 AM by Anton Gurevich
Reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon "Bones" Jones responded to Chael Sonnen's "call-out" during TSN's Off The Record show with Michael Landsberg, tweeting "Someone tell Chael Sonnen he knows where I'll be waiting". Self-proclaimed UFC Middleweight Champion went as far as two steps above his current weight class, issuing a warning to Jon Jones and the newly-crowned UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior "Cigano" dos Santos that he's coming for their titles.
Chael Sonnen declared he would use the "voucher" from his future victory over Mark Munoz at UFC on FOX 2 to book a fight with Jon Jones, JDS or the currently-injured Georges St. Pierre, while the UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva is nothing but yesterday's news:
"I'm going to become the No. 1 contender on January 28th and despite what you may think, I'm not going to use that voucher to fight Anderson Silva. I'll be looking at Jones, Dos Santos and possibly St-Pierre. I will take that voucher to Dana White and pick one of those three guys. My time with Anderson is done."
Chael Sonnen usually walks around 215lbs, cutting 30lbs to get down to the 185lbs limit. According to reports (and rumors), Jon Jones' regular weight is around 230lbs, which means that Uncle Chael will have to add some muscle for a fight with the Top 3 pound-for-pound ranked "Bones".
One way or another, it looks like the match-up should be labeled as "unlikely", since Jon Jones still has a mountain to climb when he faces the winner of the UFC on FOX 2 main event winner between Phil Davis and "Suga" Rashad Evans, or perhaps the former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan "Hendo" Henderson.
