Jon Jones: I would be more than happy to play Lyoto Machida's "distance game"

"I always knew that I would fight Lyoto one day. Lyoto's a great opponent, man, he's game. I think he takes this sport seriously. I think he's unpredictable, he's fast. Lyoto loves distance and I love distance but I have the longer limbs and I believe I'm just as fast. So if Lyoto wants to play the distance game with me, I think that's going to be awesome. ... I will defeat Lyoto Machida. I believe that it's my destiny to be UFC champion for many years." - UFC.com (transcribed by MMAMania.com)

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones will look to go through another obstacle on his way to becoming a legend, this time facing Lyoto Machida in the main event of UFC 140 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Fans and experts alike consider Machida as a tricky match-up for Jon Jones, in light of his unorthodox Shotkan Karate-inspired movement inside the cage. Lyoto Machida, nicknamed "The Dragon", lost his title to Mauricio Rua at UFC 114, after going on a historic 8-fight winning streak in the UFC Light Heavyweight division.

I bet he would since has a heavyweight's reach and frame... Can't weight until he moves up in weight, Jones v. Dos Santos is one I'd have to call finally "even". Machida? Shogun? Rampage? All are just too small and would have to luck up and outsmart him or use supreme strategy to have a fighting chance.

I'm pretty sure strategy and "outsmarting your opponents" is part of MMA and competition in general.

A classic ryu vs sagat matchup...and you know how that goes....

And officially, every champion needs to move up in weight except GSP.

You had it right the first time playboy cuz he is unstoppable, don't let y'all emotions get in the way of FACTS. You don't have to be a Bones fan to admit that he has dominated everybody he fought & Machida will be nothing but another victim.

I'm not a huge Bones fan but Winner's recognize Winner's

So U dont respect Anderson, Wand, GSP, Bendo, Aldo, Machida, Vitor, Cruz, Faber etc because all these guys walk around a weight class above the one they actually fight at...its just silly saying Jones needs to face ppl as big as him because almost every MMA fighter cuts weight

its not about cutting weight. its the size difference - I feel like alot of fighters nowadays tries to go down as low as they can to gain advantage - but I also see that I think some fighters are doing it too much that they are too thin in the weigh in - and u can see them drinks protein shake right away. a 6.0 ft guy on 135 ?

what is all this garbage people speak about move up to your natural weight....then everybody needs to. everyone cuts weight, and yea, he looks big, because he has a big upper body and is tall, but the chicken legs takes away from his total body mass, making it easier to fight at lhw. quit hating, everyone cuts weight to fight in a lower weight class , if he was too big for LHW...then he simply would not be able to make the cut...so get over it.

Rampage's upper body was far bigger than jones. his frame is huge but his overall size isn't. Similar to Silva. I do agree though that a lanky fighter has an immediate advantage over a shorter one as the fight always starts standing, but Edgar for one has proven skill can overcome that disadvantage.

I think Machida has the best chance. I had Bones at number 1 on the lhw picks when Shogun was champ just because i felt Shogun was going to get destroyed. I still have bones on top but I truly believe Lyoto is a style that can sort him out.

I honestly believe Machida won't be able to dart in and out with Jones. He's not that fast and Jones is longer and more athletic.

This is gonna be a good fight fellas. Both of these guys are exciting counter-puncher/strikers. It will be interesting to see who controls where the fight will go. Both like to impose their style on their opponants. I want Machita to win, just because Jones is making it look to easy to win of late.

How is machida going to impose anything. Dont get me wrong, he is good... but Bone has a 10in+ reach advantage. Plus I think his legs are longer than machidas. Bones is going to play the distance game all day. Once machida shoots in, he will eat a knee at the least, but will get taken down from bones who is a superior wrestler to him.
