Jon Jones: Rashad Evans gave me a learning experience
Posted on April 22, 2012, 01:15 PM by Mike DrahotaShortly after his decisive victory over nemesis Rashad Evans on Saturday night, Jon Jones had some humble words to say, and even showed respect for his opponent's boxing and wrestling skillset. Admitting to being tagged with some hard shots from Rashad Evans, Jones promised to come back as an improved fighter. He was also very thankful to his fans on the evening.

This is the Jones I like! Super respectful and seems completely honest within himself.
The only time I feel he acts a little fake is pre-fight usually when he trys to say stuff doesn't bother him etc.
Yeah. I agree. Jon Jones maybe not as bad as we think.
But Rashad should have use his Bad Breath skills in the thai-clinch to make Jones faint. hahahahahaha
He's a good kid, but when he's in front of the big cameras he's not himself. You can tell from his earlier interviews and the ones he does now that are more low key.
This doesn't seem fake at all. Jones is maturing is many ways. Props to him.
In his last few fights he has looked more human but this is against the best in the world. He is currently (and for the foreseeable near future) unstoppable.
He's is putting on muscle and I think he will find it increasingly difficult to stay at LHW.
then up to heavyweight he goes heheh
I think it was mostly out of the weight of the pressure being lifted from his shoulders. The pressure of facing a man he had trained with who is also still at the top of his game must have been overwhelming at times for both men.
This side of Bones is super relaxed and respectful because he just overcame the biggest threat to his crown thus far. And as far as I'm concerned, for a long time to come.
So congratulations Champ. If you didn't think you were the champ before this one, there's no question now in anyone's mind. You deserve that belt kid. I'm still not a fan, but there is no one out there that can best you. Not for a good long while anyway.
Sorry about that 5 dollar pot Bruce. Maybe you'll get them next time!
Thanks for the congratulations Mike,
Now you have given me permission I will see myself as the champ.

Reasons Jon Jones will not fight at heavyweight any time soon:
1) Contrary to popular belief, he's not that huge at 205. Yes, he's tall and has an incredible reach, But there are plenty of guys within an inch of his height at 205. Some examples are Kyle Kingsbury, Stephan Bonnar, Forrest Griffin, and Alexander Gustaffson. All four of those guys are much larger than Jones in their legs and lower bodies, and they undoubtedly walk around at the same weight as him, or heavier.
2) Moving up from 205 to 265 is not the same as moving up from one of the lower weight classes. It's a 60 pound increase instead of a 10-20 pound jump, or if you prefer percentages 29% instead of 7% to 11%. Back when Randy Couture competed in both weight classes, there were far fewer heavyweights pushing the 265 pound limit, and it was a more manageable jump.
3) There are currently two decent fights for Jones at 205: Dan Henderson, and Alexander Gustaffson. It will be a full year before he is looking for a third fight, and I would be shocked if another challenger doesn't surface in that amount of time.
4) Jones is a prohibitive favorite now against anybody he faces at 205, but there are several heavyweights who I would pick to beat him right now. He has a great chance to go down as the greatest light heavyweight ever, but in my opinion, he needs several more title defenses to do so. He has a far slimmer chance to go down as the greatest heavyweight ever. It's a wise career move for him to stay at 205 for several more years.
I don't expect him to move up for at least 4 years.
u can weigh 206 and fight heavyweight 205 is the cut off at lhw
Up to Heavyweight?? He said on twitter he weighed 224 the night of the fight. 224 vs all over 250 doesn't make sense for now.
Silva is around 224, so it would aldo make sense to have Jones going down to middleweight ^^
That;s the day after a weigh-in. Anderson Silva walks around outside of training camp around 220.
Jones weighs around 230-235 while in camp.
Kid is amazing... I would like to see him figth someone his size for a change.....maybe Gus....anyway it looks like the future has arrived.
Brasil, I think you are right and I chose Gus in the poll but my concern is I hope Gus isn't brought along too fast. He needs time to grow. He isn't a true contender for Jones...yet.
Gus needs to fight Bader and then he should get the title shot.
Yea I really want him to fight Gus so that if he wins the hates can stop using the "huge reach and size advantage" because he won't have a size advantage and not much of a reach advantage.
To be honest though if he proves it's not all about his reach haters will come up with something else, they always do.
Do your research first. Gus is 1 inch taller but Jones still has a 7-8 inch reach advantage. It's the really the structure of his bones and humerus.
@Mindkontrolle,
Good try by your humerus comment isn't funny.
its a 8 inch advantage and I just didn't mean wingspan by legnth.
In reality Reach doesn't tell a lot because the tall you are you will be able to lean forward and extend you arms even further so a 5'10 man with a 80" reach will not be able to reach as far as a 6'2 man with 78" reach.
Gus legs are also really long so he has a physical chance to attack Jones from the outside, unlike any one else who fought Jones (Machida used speed and evasiveness not his physical size).
What I'm trying to say is Jones won't have a big advantage in the distance department.
:(
This doesnt surprise me at all. I saw the look on his face when he entered the octagon and everyone was booing him. Its getting to him and its forcing him to show humility. I dont for a second think this interview was a natural progression without the booing.
You know that relaxed feeling you get after you bust a hard earned nut? That was Bones after this fight. It was just the calm after the storm. Don't worry he'll be back on that high horse in no time! And it looks like he's gonna be riding that horse for a long time.......... Because I don't see anyone around that's gonna be able to knock him off anytime soon.
jones does one interview where he actually for once doesnt sound ****y and people suddenly flipped their views on him. Greg jackson probably wrote that whole speech for him so he can "win some fans"
No matter what Jones says hater trolls gonna hate. he says something ****y and you hate he says something nice and you hate. Get a life.
I agree with you. Time will tell, Rashad needs to go back and evaluate some things.
Hi Def_tac
What things would you recommend he evaluate and why?
/ Odesa
Perhaps you cant handle adversity? And claim anyone with a different opinion should get a life? No-one has to like Jones and you better get used to it or you'll be seeing a lot of my replies.
Adversity? What you waffling on about there? Fact is some trolls DO hang on Jones' every word and are keyboard warriors at the ready waiting for him to say something so they can slate the fella regardless of what he has said. the ironic thing is most of his biggest critics would need a police escort to leave the house if they were as good as Jones because their heads would be so big.
This an MMA site not a psychiatrist convention. Who cares about pedantic analysis of any fighters personality? It is pathetic and does not belong on MMA sites IMO.
In reality, all of us are imperfect beings and Jones is no exception. I bet there's a plethora of occassions in all our lives where we act in a way others find displeasing.Being champion should not subject one to microscopic analysis by sad drips who have nothing better in their lives to make them feel good about themselves.
And no one is saying you have to like Jones btw, just stop HATING for no reason other than to delude yourself you are any better.
The only excuse I've ever heard Dan say was "I should have stuck to my gameplan" and in that instance he was correct. Dans one of my favorites too. Never talks trash just gets in there and fights.
@ Entity-Who's left that can even give Bones a run for his money if not the mighty Hendo? This cat is one of my favorites as well bud. You think Dan can connect with that huge right hand that Bisbing saw coming from a mile away?
1 of the reason i like silva so much he dont like to talk sh** he likes to let the fight speak for its self
You haven't heard the main ones of "the weight cut took too much out of me", and " I was injured" then.
I think he is angry on himself for not finished Rashad. Evans was in problems but not in a big problems in this fight. Good fight!
Gus is a couple years away from jones. He lost to Phil Davis who was his only decent competition. Give him machida, rashad, shogun, or rampage first. I don't think hendo has much of a chance either. I guess you have to do something. But gus needs bigger competition and to win against them.
The guy looks awesome and dominates another fight then says he promises to improve because he got hit a couple times? Look out the rest of the light heavy weights cause JOnes is an mma monster!
Jones' new modesty suits him.
Full props to Rashad for almost knocking out the champ. He performed better than expected and connected with some cool shots.
