Im callin Fitch in this one. Hes going to have way better cardio and is simply larger than BJ. I know a lot of people are Penn fans and aren't going to agree with this but Penns going to get out wrestled and out worked. I personally like Fitchs fighting style and feel thats why hes been so dominate. All the lay and pray cries I hear just makes me think theres a lot of uneducated fans out there. You don't have to like it but at least appreciate what the man can do.

    @hdownmmma

i am not an uneducated mma fan and i still feel all fitch does is dry hump is opponent for the course of the fight. i have no problem with a wrestler who goes into the fight and works on the ground (guida, sonnen etc). but what fitch does is he goes in not to lose his fights.

living in ireland we have ufc events on espn without an added fee (we dont have pay per views). so the events do me on at about 4-5 am. i record them and when fitch is fighting, i tend to fast forward his fights as they are so boring.

fitch has not finished a fight since 2007, and since then, he has never even been close.

let me ask you this, how many people will have said that john fitch and gray maynard are who got them into mma. i would say the answer will be 0 or maybe a small few people.

Given that many fighters and fans come from a wrestling backround Id have to say there would be many followers of Fitch. He wrestled in the Big Ten conference and carried his work ethic and skills from wrestilng to MMA. Here in the US and where ever wrestling is big Id say he draws in some interest. In the end though its a lot of speculation on both our parts so who really know.

After seeing how GSP handled himself against Kos, not to mention the beating he gave Fitch last time they fought, I really doubt he can dethrone GSP as easily he seems to think he can. As far as Penn, other then dry humping him for 3 rounds, I don't see him beating down Penn. However, thats assuming Penn comes in the right state of mind and physical condition.

If Dana white plan is to used Fitch to jump Penn right away to a title fight considering Fitch is the #2 WW and a win over him is obvious to get such award , then Dana choose the wrong guy to do it.

I dont like at ALL Fitch style , but Bj wont beat Fitch.

i hope Fitch uses this chance and really step up and shine vs BJ instead of LnP to a Decision , finishing or really dominating Penn could chance his Future!

I hope Penn knocks Fitch out to the end of the line again. I'm sorry to be harsh but, I feel MMA loses a lot of fans watching fitch just clench with a guy all night.

I want BJ to win but I think Fitch will probably grind him out. I really hope I am wrong. As for beating GSP, Fitch will NEVER do it.

If by "beatdown" he means lay on for 3 rds. escape a couple of sub attempts and land nearly zero strikes and walk away with a decision then yes.. he will BEATDOWN BJ

Yes, that's exactly what he meant. He will definitely try to LAY AND PRAY his way to a decision

That is if he doesn't want to get knocked out by BJ like poor old Matt.

Poor old Matt drops his hands everytime he throws a punch. I hope Fitch realises that and actually tests himself in the standup realm with BJ. Then when he gets rocked he'll go back to what he knows best and get a 29-28 decision victory.

Why do you want Fitch to get rocked haha? He might be able to use the reach advantage but that's about it. BJ has way better hands.

so many fitch haters out there. people just dont appreciate the ground skills at all. its mixed martial arts...get used to it cuz wrestlers are gonna be dominant for a while.

I don't hate him, and I really do appreciate his abilities on the ground, but he seems to be a little delusional as to what he's capable of. He may beat Penn, but as for him beating Penn down, like I said I'll believe that when I see it. And as for St-Pierre, I probably wouldn't believe it even if I saw it.

I actually think he is the third best WW in the world after GSP and Jake Shields. I just like BJ better.

By beating down he means dry humping him for 3 rounds? That's the only way he wins this.

So beating Fitch would have to put BJ in line for a title shot right....? I mean Fitch has won like 400 matches in a row since losing to GSP.

Pretty sure he means hold down instead of beatdown. I'd like to see Penn gain weight properly to make a serious impression this time though

i would n ever count bj out but i see fitch taking this one. fitch is exactly the knida of fighter to beat bj as fooliish as it sounds bj is the type of guy that if he isnt dominating a fight 100% then he is losing the fight. he just kinda wilts when people pressure him and fitch is one the best pressure fighters there is not to mention he is also larger. if bj cant end it in the first then i see fitch walking away with the dec maybe even a late tko.

I like Fitch, but he poses a problem to both the UFC brass and to fans.

There is no denying the Win column, but his fighting style seems to be to barely win by decision. He is too good to be a gatekeeper. No one would get through to the champ if Fitch stands in their way. If not for GSP, Fitch would be a dominant (though boring) WW champion.

BJ's chances of winning are highest in the 1st round and go down as the fight progresses. If it comes down to a battle of conditioning, I doubt BJ will come out on top.

To be fair to Fitch, he has come close to finishing some opponents. Paulo Thiago was flattened out in a RNC and was seconds away from tapping, but the horn sounded, saving him. Also, many ground battles have not been only wrestling, but BJJ, where Fitch has shown an amazing ability not to be submitted.

This is not the WWE and the bottom line, whether we like it or not, is win first, entertain second.

That said, if the Referee sees no damage being done, submission attempts or bettering of position, he should stand them up.

I agree but it shouldn't be made a problem to Fitch. I hate it. It's pretty boring but he has the victories and it seems like he is lightyears from a title shot which is not fair.

I remember fighting a wreslter in a real fight, and I could not get him off me. There was no bell, he had all the time in the world to defeat me--and I was exhausted as well as beat up. My point is that in a real fight, wrestling is much more devastating than in MMA. A takedown on concrete could end the fight. (also knees to the head allowed)

So I have always appreciated Jon Fitch's tough fighting style, but it is not flashy, so I can also see the side of critics. I think he would have more finishes if UFC Main Card fights were 5 rounds.

I've made that comment before. If Jon Fitch were the champion, and he had 5 rounds to work his opponents over, he'd submit almost everyone in the fourth or fifth round when his superhuman cardio causes them to melt into a puddle.

I think Penn will take this one. If he defends the take downs he could very well tko/ko Fitch. Or on the other hand if he ends up knocking fitch down or taking him down, he could submit Fitch with that crazy rear naked choke of his. Lets not forget that BJ has good take down defense

I understand what your saying and im a huge bj fan, but fitch has fought many fighters with great td defense nd idt its never really been a problem for him. too dominant of a wrestler, bj will be taken down.

If BJ is smart, and he is, he should plan on the fight going to the ground. Penn has incredible BJJ, and if he utilizes it properly, the way Diego Sanchez did in his split decision loss to Jon Fitch, this will be a VERY entertaining fight, even if it is mostly on the ground.

It all depends on which BJ Penn turns up.. I'm looking forward to see this fight. BJ is smaller then Fitch BUT BJ is on a high note after beating Hughes. I think if BJ is on the bottom Finch will finish the fight I can't see BJ getting up from under Fitch. If BJ is able to stuff ALL (it's a big ask to stop ALL takedown attempts of a wrestler) takedown attempt and just box with Fitch then he will have a slight advantage..
