Johny Hendricks vs. Mike Pierce set for UFC 133 in PhiladelphiaPosted on May 3, 2011, 02:51 AM by Joey Santosus
UFC 133 continues to take shape with the addition of a Welterweight clash between Johny Hendricks and Mike Pierce.
The UFC confirmed the match-up on Monday.
Hendricks (10-1) will look to continue building momentum after knocking out Anthony Waldburger in the first-round of their UFC Fight Night 24 bout in March. The victory put the two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champ back in the win column following the first blemish of his professional career, which came via unanimous decision against Rick Story at the TUF 12 Finale. Since debuting with the promotion in 2009, Hendricks has won five of his six outings, three of which have come via (T)KO.
Pierce (12-3), meanwhile, is currently riding a three-fight win streak, most recently scoring a TKO victory over Kenny Robertson at UFC 126 in February. The win makes him 9-1 in his last ten outings, which includes additional UFC victories over Brock Larson, Julio Paulino, and Amilcar Alves. His sole loss in nearly three years came via unanimous decision against top contender Jon Fitch at UFC 107.
UFC 133 is set to take place August 6th from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The card, while still unofficial, is expected to be headline by a Light Heavyweight clash between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis and will also feature Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama.
