Johny Hendricks willing to wait for a title shot; details how he beat Josh Koscheck

An excited Johny Hendricks expresses his feelings about his close split-decision win over Josh Koscheck at UFC on Fox 3, saying that he most likely won rounds 1 and 3 or 2 and 3. He was thankful for the outcome obviously, and expressed his desire to take some time off from MMA to be with his family, as he was quite sick during his most recent training camp.

It will be very interesting to see how the Welterweight title scenario will play out, with returning champ Georges St. Pierre to face Interim champ Carlos Condit perhaps later this year. After that, the title shot has been promised to Hendricks, and was rumored to also go to the winner of Jake Ellenberger - Martin Kampmann this summer. Did Hendricks prove enough to get the title shot afer a long layoff, or should he have to face one more opponent?

One more fight. A likable guy but I'd like to see him fight the winner of Ellenberger / Kampmann

    I agree,

if he had a total dominant performance against Koscheck than a title fight would make sense.

Hopefully Joe Silva will take notice of your advice Bruce.

Agreed, He doesnt deserve a title fight over Ellenberger/Kampmann.

He should fight Rory Macdonald instead, we will see how the WW title stuff goes by then and go from there

I know Condit earned his title shot, but I would really like to see him fight again. Hendricks is definitely ranked above him and Ellenberger is like tied with him in my eyes but will surpass him if he beats Kampmann.

@Bruce I like that fight too but what I don't like is if Ellenberger and Hendricks fight you are killing off a very legit contender who would be a test and fresh face to fight for the title.

He might have won round 2. No way in hell he won rounds 1 and 3. Hendricks got a gift from the judges.

Fightmetric scored the fight for Hendricks, but they also gave him 2 takedowns, so either they did not watch the fight, or they know absolutely nothing about wrestling. Either of those things completely delegitimizes their analysis.

He didn't say he was going to wait for a title shot. He said he was going to get away from mma for a bit , spend time with his family and clear his head before he thought about that kinda stuff.

When was he offered a shot at the winner of GSP/Condit?

We've already got 2 contenders in a walterweight division. Carlos and Hendricks. In addition, the third one is coming up in a fight between Ellenberger vs Denish "Hitman". As well, the young prospect Rory is near by the tittle shot. The walterweight division is as stacked as lightweight division. Waiting for great match ups.

Even if Hendricks had dominated Kos,I would also say Ellenberger is ahead of him in line, especially considering how well Jake did against Condit.

And I would say it's debatable if Johny actually won that fight. I'm not a big fan of Koscheck, but I think he got burned.

Hendricks is insane if he thinks he deserves gsp , Koscheck wont that fight clearly 29-28 , Hendricks has no bussiness with the top 3 WW , he should fight and BEAT a top 5 before talking about fighting Gsp ir Condit

I dont know man, i thought Hendricks was kinda 1 dimentional, and boring. A title shot for him already? Wow. and I am glad Kosh got beat cause hes way overrated and a boring fighter too. All he tried to do the whole fight was land a big right hand. Hes gun shy now too, after the St Pierre fight. His face wont be able to take many more punches. Hes older and he could get it fractured again, and risk nerve dmg.

Honestly I hardly ever think a split decision should give you a title shot, those should come from a dominant victory over another top 5 guy, of curse if it's clear who the top 2 and 3 guy is and they fight and its a split decision I could see it giving a title shot but under any other circumstances NO! Personally I am not sure that either Kosh or Hendricks are in the top 5 atm and neither are top 2 or 3.
