Johnson vs. McCall declared a draw; Scoring error results in rematch

Following the controversial conclusion to their UFC on FX 2 match-up, Flyweight tournament competitors Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall will meet in an immediate rematch.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement at the post-fight press conference immediately following the event.

In what was the promotion's first ever Flyweight bout, Johnson and McCall battled back and forth, each hoping to secure a spot in the tournament final. After 15-minutes of action, it was "Mighty Mouse" who was awarded a shot at the 125-pound strap.

As the crowd erupted in chants of "robbery," however, it became clear that on-lookers didn't agree with the decision announced - and according to Dana White, neither did the judges.

Taking center stage at the press conference, a member of the commission came forward, revealing that an error had been made in scoring the fight. One of the judges' scores should have been a 10-8, and was instead tallied as a 10-9. With the correct score in place, the fight should have been draw, and therefore would have went into a fourth "sudden-death" round.

While it is unclear exactly how the miscalculation took place, the commission representative apologized for the mishap, explaining that he takes "full responsibility." No timeline was offered regarding when the rematch will take place.

Yea im not too excited on watching a rematch nor was i too excited on watching this first fight...these little guys werent as exciting as everybody thought it was going to be..and dana tweeting (flyweight division is Fcking Awesome) proves he's forcing himself to think that because there wasnt anything exciting about tonight fights other then the KO..Idk just dont get too excited about watching 5foot 125lb men run around doing no damage for 15minutes!!!

Guess you're a Just Bleed fan

The fight was great, incredibly fast, lots of scrambles, KO's can happen at any time. Look at Tito/Bader. Sandro/Curran. Korean Zombie/Hominick. Russow/Duffee. Mir/Kongo. Liddel/Franklin. Edgar/Maynard.....etc.

If you dont understand the conecept of anything can happen, and you are discouraged with the Flyweight fights, which were great. Then why watch MMA?

Maybe you should watch Kimbo Slice street fights

A little more punching and a little less posing at the end there, and McCall might have won.

Yeah if he kept punching, the ref might have stopped it. He thought he had the nod, which I thought as well.

McCall should have kept punching. But I will be picking him to win in the rematch. Extremely impressed with McCall

THANK YOU! I don't think it should of been a draw either Ian was dominant throughout the whole fight. The 3rd round DJ was humiliated with being pounded on when so helpless.

The first thing I thought when I heard DJ got the decision was "Cecil Peoples must be one of the judges".

What a total screw up! At least they admitted they made a mistake, a lot of organizations would have swept this under the carpet.

Hey Anton, does this mean you have to adjust the Lowpicks?

I thought Ian was the only one who threatened to end the fight. He also got the most takedowns. I clearly gave it ti Ian simply because of the bad spots Mouse was put into.

Its also not fair at all to say Mouse wins, mention his shot against Benvenidez, then turn around and say its a draw.

UFC has got to do something different. I think people are getting tired of this crap.

I'll bet Strikeforce is almost as good or better tonight.

They need to leave a 4th round option open. That way if its very close and goes to a draw they can finish a 4th round and be done with it.

Dana is getting spoiled knowing everyone will simply pay again to see what should already be finished.

By the way Strikeforce tonight is using the 4th round option.

Why is it I enjoy most Strikeforce events as much or better than UFC events.

I know that as aussies we are embarassed by the fact that scores were added incorrectly and that no fourth round was held ...

My real concern would be that in a hypothetical scenario the scores could have been added incorrectly and we could have gone to a fourth round without reason.

That my friends would have been the worst outcome.

Imagine if someone "won" the fight, but the scores were added incorrectly and were forced to fight a deciding round, then lost in the 4th ...

I mean what would happen then?

Looks like this is more than a rarity and commisions need to employ a mathematician or at least someone who can count above the number 3 to check these things before decisions are announced!
