Jake Shields’ time at Welterweight has come to an end. According to Tuesday night’s edition of Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight, Shields will move to the 185 pound division for his next fight.

Shields has four fights at Welterweight in the UFC and he has put together a record of 2-2.   It should be noted that Shields will be making the move up in weight after winning his last fight, a unanimous decision victory over Yoshihiro Akiyama, a fighter that had dropped from Middleweight to Welterweight for that bout.

As a middleweight Jake Shields captured the Strikeforce title by defeating Jason “Mayhem” Miller in November 2009. Shields would defend the title once, beating Dan Henderson by unanimous decision.

Shields would later vacate the title to make the move to the UFC. In his first bout in the UFC he defeated Martin Kampmann by split decision, earning a shot at UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre. St-Pierre would take the unanimous decision win over Shields at UFC 129.

Shields hopes to compete at Middleweight in August.

I d love to see Anderson Silva humiliate Jake Shield in the octogon by dancing around ,giing a few blows ,then, do some stretches etc etc. like he did to Maia. This fight was the funniest fight i ve ever seen

That doesn't make sense. In MMA you want to be as light as you can be to have a size advantage. Oh well, I wish him the best of luck though.

unless it damages your cardio too much, or you simply go into the cage feeling unfocused and drained as **** because you can't handle rehydrating in 1 day

Its conflict of camp interest Nate wont fight in Nick's division, now that Nick is the man at WW, Jake will go up to 185.

It does make me wonder what the plan will be if Melendez comes to the UFC. Nate and Melendez at LW?

actually silvaisking, he weathered a first round storm by Hendo, only to dominate the other 4 round, questionable 10/8 rounds at that.

This could be a good move for Jake. He has not seemed nearly as effective at WW.

You're spot on. I've always thought he was awkward as hell on the feet. BJJ is a style that doesnt require that kind of balance. If Sheilds is that bad on the feet, Im afraid GSP's performance looks even worse against Sheilds.
