He didn't say anything about where he was thinking about going.. I hate it when these guys give such vague answers

Cuz he's playing one against the other negotiating the price higher and higher. He has to keep them both on the hook while he plays them.

I like him and hope he comes to the UFC.

Hendo busted Rich up, the former middleweight champ whose only losses at 185 were to A. Silva,

Maybe. What did Rich Franklin's face look like afterward? If it was BUSTED UP, then yeah, that is the fight I'm talking about.

strikeforce made a big mistake not extending his contract before he fought sheilds. people don't like dana trash talking strikeforce but its things like this that give him the ammunition.

they obviously banked on hendo winning . you can't run a promotion and plan for the future predicting the fights you put on. but they'll learn from this.

that being said i hope he stays at strikeforce. mma needs an alternative to the ufc and i'm if he does the ratings for his next fight will be better

It wasnt strikeforces choice, shields made it clear he wanted to take the risk and stay a free agent til after the hendo fight so his stock would skyrocket..that being said id imagine strikeforce was happy with that choice thinking theyd get him for cheaper

Mokoko, why dont you start trying to be accountable for your comments. For example, who SHOULD be the champs in each division? Enlighten us all......

You can learn alot from listening closely. Shields said, "I give him ideas of who I want and where I want to GO." Now consciously he did not intend to express favoritism in either direction, however if he wanted to stay in SF his wording may have been something like, "I give him ideas of who i want and where I want to BE." Small choices in wording can often give insight into people's thoughts or feelings. If he were neutral or not leaning away from SF, I dont feel GO would have been his choice in wording. Just my opinion tho, take it for what you want.

That is the smartest thing you have posted. Of course you have to take into consideration that aspects of human behavior and thought can be random and inexplicable but in general what you just wrote is an excellent rule of thumb.

    @stickinUrchicken

Thats a very good point, well spotted and your absolutely right, it's quite amazing what you can pick up from the unconcious mind, Imo Shields is definately going to the UFC, especially after the way Scott Coker sh*t on him and backed Hendo to beat him knowing that Shields had only one fight left on his SF contract. He's also cleaned SF out pretty much and Shields IS a guy who wants to test himself against the best so there is only one place for him imo, i expect he will drop back down to 170lbs too, where he should be imo.......

Cant say that I am surprised, but I dont know what you are talking about..... I never said u needed to learn anything. I said that if it is your opinion that all the UFC champs are over-rated, then why dont you share who you believe the legitimate champions are?

I'm not GSP's Number one fan by any means, I believe he can be beat but Jake Shields will not be the guy to do it.

i think shields style gives him a better chance than say a hardy or other striker..but if I had to bet and could only pick one fighter that had the best chance to beat gsp Id say Diaz. Not saying he would just think he has the best shot,,,,however I do believe koscheck is going to be the biggest challenge gsp has had in awhile...definitely glad it wasnt daley or we would just be watching Gsp vs hardy2

Shields is a smart dude "Before ongoing negotiations" just like came to job for interview “never bad mouth about your boss and previous company ". I personally think Shields going to leave and why after signed with Hendo and expected him become a champ with the contract SF can’t let him go ! why SF wonna keeps both of them in the same division and pay a lot of moneys for that .imo

Shields wont stay with SF surely, especially after the way Coker backed Hendo to beat him and become their new champ knowing that Shields only had one more fight on his contract. Not only that, he's pretty much cleaned SF out of any worthy challengers, if he wants to continue to truly test himself against the best in the world there is only one place for him to go really. Come on Shields, time to take that final step up and find out just how good you really are. I think he really does want to fight the "best" so it's just a matter of time imo. If/when he does join the ranks of the UFC, i'm presuming he will drop back down to his natural weigh class, he would be mad to stay at 185lbs in the UFC, if he has a good run at 170lbs then who knows, the option is there to move up in future. He won't stay wth SF and if he does he's crazy.......

Why I respect Shields more than ever is because Hendo was dominating him and he went to his "corner" (in the octagon its more of an obtuse angle really) and changed up his plan and came out and took control.

I actually think its starting to seem unlikely that Shields will go to the UFC as Dana doesn't seem to be willing to give him a titleshot anytime soon and Shields would be a fool to go to the UFC for anything less then a titleshot.

GSP will be coaching the next TUF and then he fights Kosh so it would seem likely that that means Shields would have about a year lay off if he goes with UFC. It's also likely that he would have to take a pay cut if he went to the UFC:

Dana has already stated how he is working the strategy.

He wants Jake in the UFC but he isn't sure how high Strikeforce is willing to go to keep Shields. It's a win win for Dana because if they overbid him to they will be one step closer to bankruptcy and if they wont go as high, he get's one of the top guys in the division, leaving SF with one less talent.

On another note, Shields was cage-side with Dana at the WEC Aldo vs Faber fight. Apparently, as reported, Dana is on video mouthing the words " he's mine" while the camera showed them sitting together.

It would be great to have Shields and Diaz in the UFC. Hell, throw Gilbert in the mix as well. The kid is one of the best in his division. Gracie's camp is deep.

Is it just me, or does Jake Shields need to slow down a little bit when he talks? Half of the things that he says is pretty much just him rambling on. He needs to lay off the coke.

To say that GSP is the only guy for Shields to fight in the UFC is pure ignorance. Shields would be lucky to beat anyone in the top 5 of the WW division imo. I don't think he could beat GSP, Alves, Fitch, Koscheck, and maybe even Swick. I was going to say Hardy, but he would just throw his b*tch *ss to the ground and beat him to death there. I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see those fights, but I just don't believe he could win any of them if all of those fighters where on top of their game.

Best scenario for Shields is to go to the UFC. GSP and Kos fight in December, so u take Shields and let him face the winner of Fitch and Alves(if they ever did reschedule that fight) and the winner of that one fights the winner of GSP/Kos in April or May '11 for the title. Just because Shields is champ in a weak *ss division in SF doesn't mean he should get a title shot right off. They should make him test the waters first. Hell, it would be a good idea to let Shields and the winner of Fitch/Alves fight in December to co-main even the GSP/Kos card. That way the whole top of the WW division could be decided on the same night. If Dana looks at Shields and tells him if he wins 1 fight he gets a title shot, I don't think Shields could turn it down.
