If there is one person GSP can "Finish" at 170 it'll be Jake Sheilds

Only if Shields goes on a diet and does alooooot of cardio. GSP is even more athletic than even Kampmann, and Shields did not look great in that fight.

i wont slate shields, he has good record but i do not see shields beating gsp anywhere in this fight. shields has terrible stand up, one of the worst, gsp will pick him apart, shields will have to try to win it in his strongest area with his take downs but gsp has great take down defence and wrestling. he is so strong and athletic. I just cant build a case for shields to win this fight.

Shields was last stopped in 2000 in his 3rd MMA fight via TKO, on top of that we have seen him take a beating from the heaviest hands in the 170p division (Hendo) and then comeback to win the fight. He also has maybe the best BJJ in the division. I'd say Shields is either the hardest or the second hardest fighter at 170p to stop after maybe Fitch.

So really wtf are you talking about, however I don't think Shields has more then a 5% chance to beat GSP.

@krogan. everyone has their views, mine is that shields is good as i stated but i dont think he has a chance in this particular fight, but if you have such a good case for shields to win then why not pick him rather than say he has a 5% chance to win.

@also krogan since when was hendo a 170 lb fighter. if im not mistaken he has spent his career at 185 or 205 and shields does 170 and 185. I think their fight was strikeforce middleweight title, not welter. so wtf are you talking about? lol

sorry but hendo was not fighting at 170lbs... hendo had fought his first fight at middleweight in a long time and he looked pretty bad in that fight, props for surviving those overhand rights in the beginnings but, if hendo didnt have to cut down it woulda went much differently.. if u think shields is a better wrestler than hendo ur nuts, it was all fatigue, just like shields gassing against kampman

totally agree, hendo gassed, if they fought 10 times hendo wud win 8 out of ten, sheilds had everything to gain for dis fight but hendo had nuting but the strikeforce belt, hendo i honestly think took sheilds lightly and i think a rematch wud c hendo winning for sure

he just does nto seem to have enough skills to beat gsp decisivley. His standup is def not better so he would ahve to rely on his td and ground game which is def not at the level of gsp. Just sayin.

Hate to break it to you guys but the only chance GSP has of winning this fight is keeping it standing and out pointing Shields. GSP will NOT KO Shields. GSP will NOT submit Shields. Shields WILL take GSP down. I give GSP a VERY slight edge due to his wrestling and striking but I think the chances that his reign as WW champ being ended are better in this fight than any other. If it stays on the ground for a significant portion of the fight Shields will win.

LOL I didn't say Shields would definitely win. I just pointed out what is likely to happen at different ranges. I do stick by my last statement about the ground 100%. If it stays on the ground we will see a new Champ. GSP had better keep this standing.

@Lowkick, ya I agree, everyone is counting him out because of his last fight but that was due to the weight cut...I see him coming against GSP in full good shape n if he does he has a really good chance at beating GSP but I still think GSP will take it

is it possible that shields is a great takedown artist but not in the highlight reel, driving double leg, smashing slam kinda way? his takedowns against henderson weren't very memorable, at least to me, but i remember that in one way or another, he took henderson down at beginning of each round and never let him up. i think i heard other legit wrestlers talking about how strong hendo is and how hard he is to take down so that fact that shields did it over and over seemed impressive at the time.

People should not forget that Shields can pull guard....if he fails at his takedowns he can pull guard n work off his back to sub GSP or reverse to get on top but I still think GSP will win but Shields has the best chance at beating him at 170

True, Hendo is a better wrestler. But, we all know Hendo doesn't utilize his wrestling all that much. He likes to throw grenades around instead. And after the first round Hendo's gas tank was empty. GSP is not going to get tired, his striking is crisp and hits the button, his ground work is probably the best in WW along side Kos (judging on their wrestling in the last bout). Jake does not have that KO power, but he's got heart great ground and great jits. I'm quite confident in GSP actually finishing this fight. I don't want to brash Jake's cardio but this is a 5 round fight, he pretty much gassed in the second, sure he was injured and the drop to 170 was hard, but that is defiantly going to be the biggest factor in this fight imo.

i get u. also, maybe what's wrong with my analysis is that shields got all those TD's on hendo from the clinch. hendo likes the clinch so the TD's were there but gsp fights more from a distance.

I disagree shields I think GSP is going to outclass you like be has everyone else. You don't even set up your takedowns with strikes you just right for it and that's not the way to get GSP down he'll stuff it or move even before he sees you duck for one

Shields has absolutely no chance in this fight against GSP. Mark my words, he may slightly edge GSP in JJ, but that is it. His striking is FAR inferior, his wrestling may be more technical, but it lacks the explosiveness necessary to take/control GSP down. GSP will murder Jake Shields, he may even finish him!

I personally don't think Shields even deserved the win against Kampmann. I thought Kampmann landed far more strikes and submission attempts compared to Shields takedowns and developing position, none of Shields work was followed up with any telling GnP or any submission attempts.

Standing GSP will eat Shields for breakfast. Many people complain he doesn'y use his stand up much, but against Hardy and Alves he totally outclassed them standing but preferred to take it to the ground. Against Shields GSP will most certainly keep it on the feet for at least half of the fight, and Shields ill get destroyed as his striking is nowhere near Kos's level nevermind GSP's.

gsp will probably look to approach this fight similarly to the koscheck one and keep the fight standing where shields is at his weakest. i don't think shields has as good a chin as kos and gsp's striking will have improved even more since the last fight, so i'm predicting a win for gsp via tko.

Chael had the best oportunity against AS. AS had his jar lid already loosened for him and Chael still couldn't open it. AS at his worst is still too much for Chael at a physical cheating advantage best. I do not count out Sheilds but it is hard to see a win come his way in this matchup. I think GSP will go the distance and get a decision.

dumbass comment, gsp has fought the elite of competition at welterweight. penn, fitch, alves, koscheck, hardy, if you don't think they're top competition then you're out of your ****ing mind. the only reason shields is getting a title shot so quickly is because gsp has cleaned out the rest of the division.

It would be a big mistake to count anybody out against anybody, because you just never know. But I think it's pretty safe to say that GSP will come out on top. GSP would just keep the fight standing and pick shields apart, if Shields was to get a take down, GSP would get up pretty quick and continue the assault. Shields is still kind of a one dimensional fighter, who lacks a serious stand up game, and we all know champions are superbly well rounded.

I really like Jake Shields. Really nice guy, well-spoken and clear in his interviews, an incredibly skilled grappler and submission artist and who the hell can't respect a 15 fight win-streak through two weight classes? The guy's a stud, world-class.

Having said that, he has absolutely nothing for GSP. I can name five guys who have a better chance at beating GSP than him simply because they punch better and harder, even though I think Shields would beat four of those guys. No one can out-class GSP in any aspect of the sport. Even though Shields' jiu jitsu is better in its purest form, I don't think that's enough for MMA because GSP's wrestling is so much more powerful and he's so strong.

And I really hope that Jake doesn't actually think that his wrestling is on par with St. Pierre's... if he does, he's going to be in for a long night. That's all he should be working until their fight, sweeps and most of all takedowns! St. Pierre is a genius fighter with that asshole Gred Jackson in his corner; do you think they're going to decide to take Shields down and submit him? Maybe a few takedowns to secure rounds, but this fight will be contested on the feet and St. Pierre is going to break Shields' face.
