Jake Shields Released From Strikeforce

Its been a long time coming , but it appears that Middleweight Strikeforce Champion Jake Shields exit from the organization is official since Wednesday June 30, and his move to the UFC could happend any day now.

Strikeforce president Scott Coker talk on MMAweekly radio about Shields released from the promotion , and explain that the exit of his Middleweight champion was due to financial reasons. He also talk about his intentions on doing a Middleweight tournament to crown a new Middleweight champion for the organization. The tournament is a possible 8 to 16 man, very similar to Pride FC’s Grand Prix Tournaments.

Jake Shields move to the UFC could happend any day as negotiations are already being made, its all up to Shields manager and the UFC, but it will be no surprise that Shields will be with the UFC in no time, since Dana White talk about the deal over and over specially since Shields last fight and victory over Former #1 contender Dan Henderson.

The real question here would be in what division will Jake Shields fight? since he did so good against Dan Henderson at middleweight  and Henderson know to fight even at 205, Shields could very well enter as a Middleweight and make a run for the title. Welterweight is also an option since he was the last ELITEXC welterweight champion and considering his size it could be more his natural weight division than Middleweight.

But Shields has declared that his willing to fight anyone the UFC can match him with , saying hes comfortable at 170 as he is at 185, a match with UFC welterweight Champion Georges St Pierre would be great, but since hes fighting #1 contender Josh Koscheck the match seems unlikely at least for now, but also Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva has a title fight coming up so its going to be interesting in what weight class Shields will enter and if hes going to be fighting in a title fight in his UFC debut or not, one thing is for sure Jake Shields is a great addition to the UFC organization, with a record of 25-4-1 and wins over names like Carlos Condit , Paul Daley ,Robbie Lawler , Jason Miller and Dan Henderson, a 14 winning streak including catching two titles in two weight division in two organizations, the future for prospect Jake Shields looks promising.
