Jake Shields: Nick Diaz has calmed down, he's going to fight again

Former Strikeforce Champion Jake Shields, who will look to get back in the win column against Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 144, discusses his opponent, as well as his training and preparation for the bout. Shields also talks about his Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu teammate, Nick Diaz, explaining that, though "The Stockton Bad Boy" is a little "burned-out," he is unlikely to retire.

Jake Shields

"He's calmed down. I think he's going to fight again. He's just a little burned out. They've been fighting him like crazy, keeping him busy - I think he just needs a break. Unfortunately, he'll probably be suspended for a little while, but the time off, I think will make him love the sport again and want to get back in there."

I wonder if GSP's plea to stay had anything to do with it, but as we know, Diaz only lets you know something if he feels like it.

Gee, is little Nicky Diaz over his hissy fit? That's good. He and Rampage should get a room, because they are both a couple of cry-babies.

No curtain between though, I want to see them duke it out!

But sometimes the guys who hate a loss that much are also highly motivated....not so sure about Rampage lol

@ CageRage. You're right on. I like Diaz but that was a tantrum if I ever saw one.

BTW, I'd love to know how much weed was required to get him calmed down.

How so? The Greg Jacksecutioner isn't going to stand infront of Diaz and trade but Diaz's "walk your opponent down" approach is tailor made for GSP's wrestling.

And i'm a huge Diaz fan.

    Dont be scared homie.

even joe rogan admitted to scoring the fight for diaz after he watched it again, i scored it for diaz the first time i watched people got to realize running and sprinting out of corners is not fighting back in pride you got a yellow card for that shit.... anyone who dont believe me watch the fight again and diaz had octagon control for almost the whole fight

nick diaz has way more to offer gsp than condit, world class bjj and some of the best boxing in mma whereas condit doesent possess anything that gsp hasnt faced already

I am interested in seeing the Shields/Akiyama fight.

And I am glad Diaz will not call it quits. He was a bit whiny for losing a close fight, but I put that down to massive frustration with not being able to unload on Condit. I don't know why, but I find myself cutting Nick Diaz more slack than I would another fighter. Maybe it was the carefully crafted PrimeTime show.

I do want to see GSP vs. Diaz -- and I am pretty sure we will see that, whether or not GSP retains his title in his fight with Condit. Diaz has some money in his pocket after his last two fights--so he should hire the best MD's to test and advise him when to stop smoking pot before the fight. Don't be scared to stop smoking ganja for a couple of months homie.

personally a lot of the fun was taken out of diaz vs gsp by condit. in my opinion diaz is just way too predictable and unflexable in his game plan to be a serious threat to gsp. expect diaz to be baffled in the ring as he is picked to pieces. gsp is a far more versatile fighter than condit so expect more of the same plus gsp great takedowns and top game

You can think whatever the heck you want. Thats the fight GSP wants and its the fight GSP will get shortly after the Condit fight.

One fact a lot of you are missing is the UFC is a business first and our source of entertainment second. Meaning, DFW and lorenzo know Nick is a cash cow and GSP Vs. Nick would do serious $$$ so they will make sure that it plays out any way they can.

Just look at how Dana took him off the card and then immediately put him back on the same card. And this coming from the Guy who fires people for tweets never mind failing to do the obligations of your job multiple times like diaz did.

The way I picture it is GSP smashes condit and by then Nick is off his suspension and then either he immediately fights GSP OR fights once then fights GSP (if he wins).

Once GSP is recovered I don't even see them even caring to do a condit vs diaz II. Perhaps and if, Diaz loses to GSP.

And since this is supposed to be a Gil thread. I'm gonna take a guess on who he could face that would make sense.

The only person high profile enough really would be BJ (if he decides to "unretire" and do lightweight again)

Other than that...Maybe AOKI II or Guida II? I hope not... I mean it can't be a number one contender b/c if they lose to Gil and come back to the UFC then it would be strange for them to be still a number one contender and would screw up the UFC's pecking order.
