Jake Ellenberger wasn't expecting a quick victory over "World Champion" Jake Shields

"It's unbelievable – Jake Shields is a world champion, so I can't explain how I feel right now. Just keeping the pressure – that was the strategy coming in here. I came out with the W and it feels great... I definitely could have envisioned myself winning this fight – but not that quick. It happened fast, but I trained hard for this fight and I knew I was ready...The ref's job is to stop the fight, so I'm going to go until he stops me...It really doesn't matter where I think I'm at (in the division). It's up to the UFC, and whoever they tell me to fight, I'm going to fight." - For more from the Fight Night 25 Post-Fight Press Conference, visit MMAFighting.com

Speaking at the UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou Post-Fight Press Conference, Jake Ellenberger reflected on his 53-second TKO win over fellow top contender Jake Shields. The victory, which Ellenberger admitted came earlier than expected, improves his current win-streak to five and places "The Juggernaut" firmly in the mix of potential Welterweight title contenders.

Though Ellenberger declined to speculate where exactly he falls in line, he finds himself among such company as Jon Fitch, Nick Diaz, BJ Penn, and others, all vying for their own crack at the 170-pound strap.  So what do you think LowKick'ers? Was his first-round destruction of Jake Shields enough to earn Ellenberger a shot at the GSP vs. Condit winner or will "The Juggernaut" need another solid victory before staking his claim as number-one contender?

i honestly think the ufc should pull jon fitch out of his fight with hendricks (which is a stupid matchup anyways) and have him fight ellenberger and the winner of that get a title shot. doesnt make sense for ellenberger to fight another person coming of a loss.

I agree. I'd love to see Ellenberger expose Fitch.

Hendricks is the prototypical fighter that will give him problems (better wrestler).

The winner of the bout vs. Ellenberger falls along in the timeline perfectly.

Ellenberger is a fighter! A fighter wins by defeating his opponent and that's what he does. Anyone he faces that looks to win by points will fall under his aggression. GSP had better start learning how to fight before Jake gets his title shot or he's in trouble! GSP is a great personality and ambassador for the "sport" but he is not what I call a fighter, but a professional neutralizer

I would love to see a GSP vs Ellenberger bout. I doubt Jake would win it, but it would be a good fight--Jake is a well-rounded martial artist.

I think his fight with Shields puts him next in line for the champ.

I agree. However, in light of the Diaz-Penn fight, he could have to win another one first. Especially if Diaz wins... GSP-Diaz is a fight the UFC definitely wants to make happen. But, if Penn wins, I could see them giving the shot to Ellenberger, only because of Penn's previous defeats.

    I don't think so.

He's still at least one fight away from a shot at the title. Still has the winner of Penn-Diaz, Fitch-Hendricks, and Koscheck-Hughes to deal with.

I like a fight with Koscheck, Hendricks, or Fitch next for him. Or even Hughes if he pulls the upset against Kos and wants to continue fighting.
